Our LOs not been 100% today, he woke for a couple hours in the night , he was struggling to go back to sleep , then today slept for 3 hours and I had to wake him up in the end 😳. I suspect it's teeth but not sure as we've been away so might be a little under the weather if he's picked anything up too.

Nclktnntt · 09/04/2025 11:39

I feel my LO has taken a huge leap in his communication and understanding skills. He's starting to try he's words too - they make no sense but he's trying. He also sings along to songs. If I ask a yes or no questions he can definitely tell me what he wants and has understood the question because seems really pleased about when I do/get what he's said yes too, Anyone else's like this? It's so amazing to see them turn into little people don't you think. I feel he's definitely out of the baby stage now 😥 part proud and part sad as it feels like he'll be going to college next week at this rate 😂😂

@Nclktnntt my little one is definitely teething, she has 2 back teeth one top, one bottom on the right and gum is swollen on bottom left, she keeps playing with her ear so think its the teething pain is radiating to her ear, bless her, she has definitely had a leap in communication too, when she saw the chicken today she made yummy sounds and pointed at the chicken to tell me she wanted some lol was so cute, she attempts quite a few words now, and can bring me some objects when i ask her to or find things i ask for, like yesterday she was playing with her pushchair and i said “oh where is baby?” And she went to her toy box and found her baby to put in the pushchair, and was making baby crying sounds for her baby too, it is amazing how fast they grow up isn’t it, scary fast, won’t be long till we are all getting broody for another 😂 (she is definitely my last but doesn’t mean i won’t get broody 😂) xx

@Avie29 Oh that's so cute 🥰 yea they grow up so fast. I'm just so amazed at how much he's picking up and how much he can actually understand!

Think my LO is suffering with his teeth again...looks like he's getting a top and bottom molar at the same time so he's drooly and a bit grouchy.

Other than that he's getting more and more chatty. It's amazing how quickly they can now pick up words isn't it! and he knows what he wants as well - he'll take my hand and lead me to the stairs and says 'bath, bath' or bat as he says.

He can now say banana clearly instead of bayaya and waves and says good bye to everyone in the cutest of voices - makes me a bit broody as well @Avie29

Nclktnntt · 24/04/2025 19:54

These back teeth are gonna be the death of me or my shoulder from all the little bites 😬. I feel like we've entered the - we have to get out of the house for at least an hour or so each day - faze. If not each wake window. We played in the garden today for a couple of hours, he had so much fun between helping me build his mud kitchen and my husband mow and scarify the lawn, he had a wale of a time playing in the dried grass bits from the scarifying lol.

@Nclktnntt our days sound similar haha! I make sure I’m out the house every wake window. This morning was the park & Tesco then this afternoon it was the garden. She helped me build her new sand pit (surprised she actually spent about 45 mins playing in it after I built it) then she played with the pegs as I hung the washing up lol anything to keep them occupied!

Avie29 · 25/04/2025 11:20

Oh my lg loves it in the garden, she can’t play on the grass at the moment as we have dug it up to put decking in for some summerhouses, we are turning them into little chalets for our older two kids, so i have to bring her slide indoors at the moment because i don’t want her to fall off it on the patio 🤦🏻‍♀️ the same with her little trampoline, so the garden is slowly moving indoors lol luckily she mostly likes following ants around the patio chatting to them lol xx

Nclktnntt · 30/04/2025 13:19

Our garden is my project this year, I want a patio area which is currently mud and a dumping ground (been renovating and the garden was last on the list until LO came along of course) so we'll be doing a temporary but good enough for now kind of patio area so we can walk out the door without it being a trip hazard for adults let alone tiny people. The grass area is all done but is currently out of bounds as we scarified it and need to seed it once the weed and feed has worked its little bit of magic 😂.

I want to get my little one a slide, climbing frame, water table and sand pit and it's all so costly and no where to put it just now - hence needing the patio needing done too!

We have our first meal out tonight which passes bedtime, I'm hoping LO will nap this afternoon or be ok, anyone tackled this before now? Any tips? I plan to basically do bedtime there and get him in his pjs to head home and hope he sleeps in the car and doesn't wake when we get back 🤞

OP posts:
Beans1982 · 01/05/2025 22:14

Hey @Nclktnntt how did it all go on your meal out? did your LO go to sleep alright for you?
We've not ventured out beyond 6.30pm (ish) but now the day are getting longer it would be nice to go out for an evening.

Our LO loved splashing around in his little paddling pool yesterday. I hope everyone else has managed to enjoy a bit of the sunshine!
The garden is also top of my 'to do' list. We've only recently had the fence between us and our neighbours replaced and now need to sort out the lawn as its full of weeds 🙄
I've also been looking at sand pits and outdoor activity tables etc, there are so many things!

Nclktnntt · 02/05/2025 06:36

The meal went well. He's been waking early this week 5:30-6 ish and still refusing his second nap so I was dreading it. We left at 8:15. He coped so well with it all, he'd been awake since 11:40 that day and before we left I got him changed, into his pjs, cleaned teeth and did his cream (al bedtime cues for him) and when in the car I gave him his muslin and dummy and turned on his music, he was asleep within 5 mins and when we got home I managed to get him in bed and into his sleeping bag without him waking. He did wake at 5:45 for an hour but went back to sleep till 9:05 😳 and was fine totally yesterday.

It's not something I'd do regular because it did mess with his sleep routine a little but it worked out well and it's nice to know we can go to evening meals and not be too worried about bedtime especially over summer.

16months today and today he has point blank refused to nap, he wanted to nap at 11am, had his bottle and everytime he got close to drifting off would start playing with it and shaking it, so we gave up on the bottle and then on the nap by 11:30, at 12 we tried again, we tried everything, he keeps demanding to dance (this is his distraction that he uses when teething too), I wouldn't put the music on to dance so queue tantrums gallor. We ended up in the pram at 12:40, I asked if he would like to go for a walk he said yes, in the pram, yes, ok. 1:15 I walk back in the house, he still hasn't napped.... like how! But now he's going to be hungry again so we're having lunch and I'm gonna try the car.

Someone please tell me this is a phase, that this is normal 🤷‍♀️. I thought he'd had his regression when he dropped to 1 nap and got in a brilliant balance of saying he wanted a nap and just taking the nap. He's never been an amazing sleeper in the day but was starting to average 90 mins in the day but yesterday after 30 mins he then contact napped on me. Maybe that was the warning as last weekend he was terrible in the day too 🙈.

If he was happy to be awake and playing that would be one thing but he wants to sleep but just won't/can't and I don't know what to do, we can't spend the whole day half napping, can we? Obviously at some point it becomes too late and he'll have to suck it up until bedtime . But I don't see how that helps anyone when he'll be overtired and not sleep well at night then 😔.

Anyway, I hope you guys are doing better than I am right now with naps, but I also half hope I'm not alone 😂. Xx

@Nclktnntt i personally think itl be a phase! If he’s used to napping during the day & sounds like his body still needs the day sleep I reckon he will eventually get back into the routine of naps? Just try to keep to the same routine each day? As in same time roughly and same sleep routine.

my LG is now down to one nap and napping for 2/2.5 hours in the day and sleeping for about 10/11 hours over night. Ideally I’d like overnight sleep longer and naps less but it’s working right now so not changing it. Although today we were at the safari park and she’s not great at napping on the go so had about 45 mins in the buggy! See how tonight goes lol.

Nclktnntt · 05/05/2025 21:34

Thankfully he slept in the car, I left the drive at 2:06 by 2:10 he was asleep 😂

I'm sure it's a phase too, he's usually not a bad sleeper all in all (now anyway). He does still wake in the night for between 30-90 mins but will usually make that back up generally.

How long can your LO go between naps? My LO has never been good at going too long following his wake, he's usually ready for his nap around the 4 hour mark max, 3.5-4 hours usually, I think he really should still have 2 naps but he will not have the second nap and if he does he then doesn't wanna sleep at bed time 😂 . The afternoon wake window though he can do a good 6 hours no problem. Xx

99SR · 06/05/2025 07:14

That was kind of like my LG. Up at 6 and wanted a nap by 9 but I just held her out for a few days. I started the one nap at 10.45am and have gradually pushed it back to 11.30. So her day goes

5.50/6am wake up (working on that lol)
11.30 nap for 2/2.5hrs
6pm bath, story
6.45pm bottle
7.15/7.30 asleep (we leave her to self settle after her bottle but sometimes takes her about 20mins)

ideally I’d like the nap a tiny bit later and would like her to sleep in a bit later but I’m sure itl come when she’s fully used to one nap. When we started the naps at 10.45 if she was up at 1pm I would just make bed time about 5.5/6hrs after waking! She’s been asleep for 6.30 on one occasion and that night she slept til 6.30 the following day!!! Something to be said for an early bedtime lol

Nclktnntt · 06/05/2025 12:35

@99SR I think you're right, I think my LO is changing his sleep needs. He's been waking around 5:30 lately which has been closer to the 10th it mark for him instead of his usual 12 hour mark.

I think we were in your dream schedule for the last few months - he would wake at 7-7:30 nap at 11:30-11:45 ish and bedtime would generally be between 7&8 apart from the early times of the nap was rubbish.

Today he woke at 5:30 again and at 6 he decided he was awake awake and gave up on trying to go back to sleep, I think he's also getting used to waking earlier, which is fine, he was awake awake by this point, so we started our day. 10:45 he went down for his nap, he woke at 11:30 but self settled and I'm hoping we make it till 1pm 🤞so then it can be 7ish bedtime which works best for him usually. Although with the brighter mornings maybe an earlier bedtime with an earlier start to the day might be better over summertime maybe anyway - I guess we'll find out 😂 xx

Sounds very similar to our routine before we went to one nap! im just hoping we get longer lies eventually. I’ve come to realise not a lot of babies sleep 12 hours lol!

that’s good he self settled when he woke up from his nap! Hope tonight goes well.

Avie29 · 07/05/2025 20:36

Having similar nap issues here, i think she is slowly trying to phase the last nap out, she used to sleep for 2.5 hours in the day now im lucky if she does 1.5, and a few days has only done 30mins, i think its because she is busy in the garden and doesn’t want to sleep lol although on the upside she has started sleeping better at night and i actually got my first sleep through last week, she slept from 9 till 5:30 😱 and until last night (she is getting another cold) has only gotten up 2-3 times which doesn’t sound great but after over a year of every 2 hours is like a dream lol, so im willing to forgive the lack of naps in the day at the moment for the better nights lol her day time/nap routine is generally up 5:45-6 (which is fine as my alarm goes off at 6 anyway) play/breakfast, 11-12/12:30 nap, lunch, up for bath 6-6:30, then she gets the zoomies till 7-7:30 and bed xx

Nclktnntt · 07/05/2025 21:50

I think we've definitely had a change in sleep needs. Today was a 6:30 wake up, 12-2 nap, 7:30 bed. Yesterday he napped for 3 hours. So I'm wondering if he'll be 2-3 hours in the day maybe 🤞 I'm excited by that prospect 😂

He's also seriously teething bless him, I've had a few close call bites today lol

Hey, how is everyone getting on? My little one will be going into her own room for first night tonight FINALLY! Lol we didn’t have the room to put her in with her sisters but we have finished building the older kids new summerhouse/bedrooms in the garden and redecorating the girls room, i am so excited to have me bed back 🙌 lol xx

Nclktnntt · 08/08/2025 04:43

Hi @Avie29 we're getting on well thank you. Oh awesome! How has the transition gone?

We've had a bad week for sleep this week, o think it's his teeth. 2.5 hours tonight, asked for milk when I said here's your water he paused and started asking for snacks, which he doesn't normally do when he wakes in the night. Sp he had a bit of a banana and some milk 😂. He didn't eat much at dinner though so it made sense he was peckish.

OP posts:
Avie29 · 08/08/2025 13:08

@Nclktnntt it has not gone too well lol everytime i make a move to leave her room she opens her eyes lol, so sleep has seized to exist, i managed an hour and 20 minutes night before last and had a rather uncomfortable night sleeping in her bed last night 🤦🏻‍♀️ haha, i have my dad staying here from wales at the moment but once he has gone home i will be trying a self soothing without me being in the room xx

Nclktnntt · 08/08/2025 20:41

Oh no 😥 @Avie29 im sorry to hear that! Does your LO have the cot side up or is it a bed now? Or floor bed?

Due to renovating (heavily) we're all living in the one room (large room - living kitchen dining space and both our bed and his cot are in here - but we're finally making ways to him actually having his own room and us being in our own room, however I'm stumped on how to tackle the transition and how to sleep train as he'll be 2 by then for sure as it won't be ready this side of winter and then needs plastering and decorating so it'll definitely in the new year sometime.

I'm thinking we might put his cot the other side of our wardrobes (used to be my husbands office space) so he starts getting used to the feeling of having his own space, in the hope that the move to his room, when the time comes, isn't so alien to him 🤞. He does sleep in his cot most nights though thankfully as I can imagine that being even harder to transition too. Our LO was almost in my bed last night though, when he eventually fell back asleep everytime I moved off the seat with him, he woke up 😳. Eventually though I made it back to bed 😂.

OP posts:
Avie29 · 09/08/2025 09:04

She has a single bed, we have used the top part of her sisters old bunk because it has rails on it to stop her falling out lol im not sure how im going to proceed to get her to stay asleep while im not there cause she gets so upset bless her and she shares with her sister so middle of the night self soothing is out hmm 🤔 may need to put sister in my bed for few nights until she starts sleeping better not sure yet 🤷🏻‍♀️, my older 4 went into their own rooms at 6 months and were sleeping through most nights by 1 so this is uncharted territory for me haha xx

Nclktnntt · 11/08/2025 22:00

I think my little one is potty and sleep training himself - he keeps asking to sit on the toilet without his nappy, last week it was with his nappy on and today without 2 times and basically emptying a roll of toilet paper in the toilet pretending to wipe 😂, but then tonight during his nappy change, he said wee and pointed to toilet and when asked if he wanted to sit on the toilet he said yes. My husband thinks he may have pooped (cleaner was in the toilet), but not sure, he was trying.

Then, after his bottle he asked to go in his bed and after a bit of back and forth he went back in his cot and went to sleep.

On the toilet training side, what do I do? Just let him play and see what happens?
