@Avie29 if I could breastfeed to get mines back to sleep I would trust me haha!! My friend takes her little girl into bed with her when she wakes up and suggested that. Trust me I’ve tried! She just crawls everywhere haha! X

Yea unfortunately its feeding to sleep is why she wakes up 🤦🏻‍♀️ she can’t go back to sleep without breast, need to break the cycle but means some nights with no sleep and i dont get enough as it is haha, going to give it a try during school half term, might be able to catch up during the day with no school runs lol xx

Hello! Does anyone know how much LO should be drinking daily now they don’t need milk? My LB is drinking in the region of 900mls of water/juice during the day plus milk at nap time/bed time/over night which I just think is a lot for one day!

As far as I've read - Water / juice throughout the day and between 300-500ml of milk I believe. There's no instruction on how much water because they'll have whatever they need and leave what they don't.

I don't monitor how much water he has, he has access to it all day, and My little one has been drinking a lot lately but was obviously thirsty, he's been drinking less the last couple days so I guess it's like us, some days we drink more and others less. Could also be the heating is drying the air or heating your LO up and they're dehydrating quicker? I've considered this with our LO as we have underfloor heating and he's closer to the source that we are 🤷‍♀️

I’m transitioning my LG from neocate to soya milk and it’s not going well so she’s actually hardly drinking any milk. Trying to give her a yogurt with each meal for calcium but she’s a fussy eater as it is!

FirstMondayInMay · 11/02/2025 13:19

@Nclktnntt ooh that would make sense, he likes to stand looking out of the window which is right next to the radiator😂

he's only really just started having water and juice during the day so I think it might just be cos it’s a new flavour too! He’d quite happily be a milk monster and guzzle bottle after bottle if I still let him😅

Nclktnntt · 11/02/2025 15:49

My husband thinks our LO has roughly 6-700ml water in the day. I've not tried him on juice or anything yet, slightly scared he'd stop drinking water altogether 😂

@99SR are you just doing a straight swap or have you tried mixing it together at all? We did 1/4 plant based milk to 3/4 prescribed then 1/2 & 1/2 then 1/4 & 3/4 the other way around and finally just straight swap. I did it slowly over the course of a few weeks. We found an oat milk that's fortified with calcium and b vitamins and it tastes really nice.

99SR · 11/02/2025 19:41

@Nclktnntt we tried that! I’ll need to do it again because our prescription milk is about to run out.. what oat milk did you use? We were using oat milk for everything but she was just refusing every bottle that I put more than 2oz of oat milk in. So someone suggested soya. Past two mornings I’ve made 3oz prescribed and 2oz soya and she drank the full bottle today. So hoping we’re making progress now.

I'm not monitoring LO's water intake now either. We experience the same, where he drinks more one day and less the next. I give him a tiny bit of apple juice mixed with one cup of water and switch to just water later in the afternoon.

I'm still offering him milk but he hardly touches it unless I've made a milkshake (just with a mashed banana) and then he guzzles it all! I've read a few times that after they turn 1 they don't need milk before bed because it can affect their sleep ...

@Avie29 @99SR I hope the last few nights have been a bit better for you and you managed to get some sleep!
Something's up with my LO but can't figure out whether it's first molars bothering him, separation anxiety, or he's ready to drop to one nap...for the past week or so he's started to scream and cry (like, really loudly) every time I put him to bed and it takes a good hour or more for him to fall asleep. And then he wakes in the middle of the night crying.

Possibly a bit of anxiety, my little girl is a bit extra clingy at the moment and she’s slowly pushing her nap out, she used to nap 11-1/1:30 and then have lunch but now shes not napping till 1/1:30 and having lunch before nap and waking at 3-3:30 so nap is slightly shorter too, so now we have had to push her bedtime out till 7:30-8 (was 6:30-7) i suspect in couple months she will be dropping that nap most days (my older 4 stopped napping completely by 2 😢) i gonna miss those couple hours peace in the afternoons lol still not sleeping through although she did sleep for 3 hours after i put her to bed last night which is better than her usual 2 hour blocks lol but then was up every 2 hours after that 🤷🏻‍♀️ i think now if she slept longer i would wake up in a panic wondering if shes ok haha xx

Nclktnntt · 12/02/2025 13:34

Our LO has been on 1 nap for a couple weeks and he fonally seemed to have settled into it and almost sleeping through again, then today, refused his first nap and only just gone to sleep ... he had his immunisations yesterday though, so I'm thinking maybe it's linked to that and he's just a little out of sorts🤷‍♀️

I was googling last night how to sleep train a 1 year old - I feel I've missed the window because we can't block the light out completely so have a snooze shade over the cot - he climbs on it, so that'll have to come off if I try to sleep train him and then it's not dark. But it'll be the same lightness as him falling asleep on us I guess. I could always put it over when he's asleep.

@99SR we use glebe farm creamy and enriched. It's gluten free. Tastes really nice.

We're going to be starting the milk ladder soon, has anyone tried introducing cows milk back into their LOs diets yet that have taken it out?

I haven't fully decided whether to start the milk or wheat one first but I'm thinking milk might be the best to begin with. Need to make sure his eczema is fully under control though first too. I had a one off call with a dietitian and she suggested challenging the allergies and if have further issues on reintroducing them that I need to be referred to an allergist. She was really confused by the symptoms seemingly delayed reaction yet the doctors doing blood tests can only test for immediate reactions 🙈 she also said in her report to the doctors she will word it better than this but she's going to say we need support from a doctor who understand allergies in pediatrics as the advice they've given vs tests they've done counteract one another 🤷‍♀️

Anyone else going through the fussy eating stage? 😳 At first I thought she had gone off food because of her teeth but she’s still not eating much. If it’s not cheesy broccoli pasta, sausages, yogurt or breadsticks dipped in cheese she doesn’t want to know 🫠 some days she’ll eat toast, crumpets, soup other days nope! And fruit is an absolute no go unless it’s puréed and mixed into yogurt. Ofcourse shel eat snacks such as crisps, wafers etc but I try to limit them as I don’t want to fill her up with them. Help I feel like I’m failing her!!

Nclktnntt · 20/02/2025 16:15

@99SR try not to worry - you are not failing your little one. All kids go through fussy stages... I read a while back that it's totally normal as the start to learn one of the things they can control is what they eat and they like the feeling. I got told to remember everything's a phase. The good times are a phase and so are the not so good times.

Do you have any recipe books with fussy eaters sections? What mummy makes has a fussy eaters section and I think her family comforts book does too. I can take some photos of the recipes for you if we're allowed to share them in here?

Main thing is to just keep offering food throughout the day and don't try to force anything so it doesn't turn into a battle with them.

My little one is currently being a little hit and miss with his food but I'm currently putting it down to teething (new tooth has popped through) and he's on day 10 following the vaccines. So fingers crossed it's that.

Beans1982 · 20/02/2025 21:54

@99SR Same here...my LO went through a phase of loving strawberries and then one day he refused them, same with bananas, blueberries, toast...the list goes on. And he's still going through this fussy eating phase.
I've found if I don't offer him one of the foods he's 'gone off' for a few days and offer it again he tends to eat it like he used to before becoming fussy.

Echoing what @Nclktnntt says, try not to worry! But it's frustrating and a bit concerning when their eating habits change all of a sudden. I hope she'll be back to her usual eating soon for you!

@Nclktnntt and anyone else who's using pull up pants - how are you finding them? we've tried them a couple of times during the day but not yet at night. Our LO has refused to lay down a few times so we've had to do a standing nappy change so it's easier to do this with the pull ups. But got completely thrown when we had a dirty nappy LOL, how do you change a dirty nappy without making a mess?!? my husband decided the easiest thing to do was cut the sides to slip it off but there must be another way right?

99SR · 21/02/2025 06:44

@Nclktnntt @Beans1982 thank you both! I’ve been offering a food I know she’ll like then putting some sort of fruit or vegetable etc into one of the sections in her plate to make sure I’m still offering. I’ll have a look at that book now!

@Beans1982 we use pull ups for the same reason you do lol. Yeah your husband is right but the sides just rip apart if you pull them. I mean it’s not the easiest when it’s a dirty nappy but I’ve never had a mess yet 🫣 one thing I do try and do is tuck her vest into the neck so i can make sure she’s clean without the vest going in anything lol. Anything to make sure they don’t cry eh! 🤣

Nclktnntt · 21/02/2025 08:12

@Beans1982 we just rip the sides open and take off like a normal nappy - I've not removed it as a standing change yet though 😳

Anyone do any sensory play with your little ones?

OP posts:
99SR · 21/02/2025 11:22

@Nclktnntt I try to! Yesterday I cut up loads of sponges and put them in a tub full of water for her to explore. Lasted a good 5/10 mins lol do you?

Nclktnntt · 22/02/2025 07:06

@99SR yea I've done a few, the last one I tried was edible sand and he was intrigued but did not like the feel on his hands and face (eating it), I got annoyed then when I didn't know what he wanted he got up and grabbed the wipes and got one out to wipe his face... I was more impressed with that 😂😂

There's a few I wanna try with him but most I come across are a little to old for him just now. I've seen bubbles and lots of water ones which I think he'd love.

@Nclktnntt wow what a clever cookie haha!
have you seen edible paint? Food colouring mixed with yogurt? I thought that looked quite good. I work in a nursery so I should know more really!

Avie29 · 22/02/2025 10:10

I have all the recipes for edible paint, playdoh, slime etc, had 2 3yos in lockdown so we made a few lol i will post them on here.
We had our first temper tantrum yesterday, threw her plate on the floor, screaming, the works…. The issue? She wanted a pickled onion and i didn’t get it out the jar fast enough lol 🤦🏻‍♀️ xx

Avie29 · 22/02/2025 10:12

Some of them are taste safe (but probably won’t taste nice lol xx

Thank you @Avie29 for these. The paint is seen and chickpea juice whisked up for foam play I've seen too, has anyone tried it?

I've seen people use rice and chickpeas to colour but I'm guessing our little ones are too young for these yet? And is it raw rice?
