Am I a the only person that thinks those girl baby bows are horrific?

I’ve been wondering if anyone agrees but these baby bows are so freaking HORRIBLE!! They’re so ugly and giant and makes the baby girl look stupid. Nobody needs to know the gender of your baby that bad. Babies don’t know where their feet are never mind what gender they are meaning they don’t care what gender they get called. If you really wanted to be obvious about their gender you’d buy girly clothes and girly toys which just proves that the bows are literally just to use the baby as an aesthetic!! At least it points out the mothers that care more about their baby looking aesthetically pleasing than them being comfy in a nice little hat and outfit. If my baby is a girl I hope to God nobody gifts me a bow bigger than her newborn head.

I more worry about the safety of them, they are huge pieces of fabric which can move if the baby moves. And yes tacky.

Birdscratch · 03/10/2024 10:40

This is like a throwback thread to MN 15 years ago. No one liked them then either.

TwistedWonder · 03/10/2024 10:43

They’re absolutely hideous but I think a lot of baby girl outfits are tacky as hell.

Not a fan myself.... until I had a girl! Then I did get some but they were such a faff she only wore them twice!

Youcantcallacatspider · 03/10/2024 10:48

The bows aren't something I'd choose to put on my own tiny baby. However it's ironic that many people on this thread are so lacking in class that they use very derogatory language label a mostly harmless fashion choice ..... classless.... Maybe take a long hard look in the mirror. It takes more than money and social status to give you true class.

cocoviv · 03/10/2024 10:49

I always think it must be uncomfortable for a baby who is often lying down - when I've worn a headband or something similar many years ago, it never stayed secure and always needed adjusting but a baby can't do that themselves.

I also agree with the need to make your baby look like a girl. When I don't dress my daughters in pink or something obviously 'girly', it's amazing how many people think they are boys!

Rainrainngoaway · 03/10/2024 10:53

I can’t bear them they’re my pet hate and I think they look ridiculous

NapTrappedAgain · 03/10/2024 11:04

Yeah there’s a huge and unpleasant classist undercurrent to this thread but for me hating bows on babies is purely about the gender stereotyping.

I can’t help but wince whenever I see a baby girl in these. It is always girls and there’s no boy equivalent. They look cumbersome on small babies and it’s sad how even at that age girls are decorative and pretty and boys are practical and fine as they are.

DoIWantTo · 03/10/2024 11:07

Can’t stand them so didn’t put them on my own DC. What anyone else does with their baby is none of my business unless they’re actively harming them in front of me.

I know this is awful and I hesitate to say it, but they remind me of people who've had hair loss from chemo... 🙁

Sometimes if you hesitate it's for a good reason

onwardsup4 · 03/10/2024 11:10

Yea if it's to replace a hat , don't see the problem with a bow for a photo though ? If you like that sort of thing

TheBelleOfBelfastCity · 03/10/2024 11:11

Awful things - so tacky. Same with those massive frilly socks 🤢

I think that some people forget they have a baby girl, not some sort of doll to play dress up with

Whothefuckdoesthat · 03/10/2024 11:13

I think they can look quite cute. Some of them are very fifties-ish and I love that look.

I’d never put one on a baby though, I’d be paranoid about it slipping down around her neck.

ForestFox44 · 03/10/2024 11:14

I hate them, they must be so uncomfortable especially the ones that aren't even made from soft fabric. I feel sorry for babies in them, just let them be comfy in a baby grow!

BananaSplitSandwich · 03/10/2024 11:16

They’re just hideous. It just screams of the mum wanting to make sure that everyone knows she’s got a daughter, just in case anyone should dare think she got landed with a baby boy 🙄 🙄

(Boy mum here, just in case you can’t tell)

Figleafpants · 03/10/2024 11:16

I dont get them either- they never look comfortable for the baby either.

Why does a baby need a huge bloody bow anyway?

Viviennemary · 03/10/2024 11:16

Well horrific might be bIt strong but they are certainly totally ridiculous. I quite like giant pompoms on hats and ears on hats. Suppose they ate a bit daft .looking too,

rainfallpurevividcat · 03/10/2024 11:46

Not horrific but I'm not keen.

And neither of my DDs would have kept them on for five minutes.

DD1 would hardly even keep her socks on.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 03/10/2024 11:47

I don't like fussy clothes on babies or anyone else, but so long as the baby isn't uncomfortable I guess it is up to the parents.

nocoolnamesleft · 03/10/2024 12:00

My brain doesn't code them as cute, but as strangulation risk.

Nobody is judging babies. We’re judging the parents.

Marblesbackagain · 03/10/2024 12:28

Anyone I have seen in real life used it for a photo or to stop them pulling at their earrings.

Couldn't get excited by fashion choices on a child. It's up to the parents to decide. 🤷‍♀️

Attelina · 03/10/2024 12:30

I don't think I've ever seen an infant or child out and about wearing one.

I thought they were more for taking photos like when I put sunglasses on my dog for a moment just to take a photo.

MsBaggins · 03/10/2024 12:33

@TheBelleOfBelfastCity it's not the parents wearing it. So effectively you're looking at a baby thinking 'ew that looks chavvy.'

Why does it matter? Focus on your own kids and ideally raising them to be less judgemental and nasty as you.
