Would you say my baby is ginger ?

I'm getting a lot of comments mainly from my mum who has always been very negative about ginger hair and she's keeps mentioning my babies hair and she's making it a bad thing
When his own grandmother is being mean (she says she's joking) about his hair colour I worry about other people being mean to him later in life
Would you say he's ginger? My first is quite dark now at 3 years old but his hair changed a lot during those 3 years

Would you say my baby is ginger ?

He looks gingery and gingers are the best. Tell your mum to zip it

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/09/2024 11:19

I am a natural red head and never got bullied for it. My youngest grandson is ginger and proud and doesn't get bullied. I think being proud of it is the key here.

Igotjelly · 25/09/2024 11:19

His hair does look redish in tone. Don’t let your mum’s comments get to you, I know it’s hard! Red hair is beautiful!

Yes he is,

Your mam is a dick, she needs telling!

Igotjelly · 25/09/2024 11:19

In other news wee fuzzy baby heads are adorable 🥹

MissSkegness1951 · 25/09/2024 11:20

Looks titian to me.

TuVuoiFaLamericano · 25/09/2024 11:20

My eldest is blonde, my youngest is ginger/blonde. I get so many comments about how gorgeous his hair is. I hope it doesn't change.

TossedSaladandSE · 25/09/2024 11:21

Hard to tell

BrokenSushiLook · 25/09/2024 11:21

Ginger hair is beautiful and antiginger comments are thinly veiled racism against celtic dna - tell her to stfu.

Meadowfinch · 25/09/2024 11:22

No, not ginger,, but even if he was, who cares?

I'd love to be ginger or auburn, rather than boring brunette.

Anyway children's hair changes so much. My DS was born with black hair, then lost it all and grew very fair wispy hair, now at 16 he has rich dark brown hair, the colour of plain chocolate.

Your mum is ignorant, ill mannered - and rather odd!

Lemonade2011 · 25/09/2024 11:23

Looks ginger to me, it’s lovely. My eldest son is ginger and at 23 is very handsome although my mum and sister ‘joked’ 🙄 about ginger hair before he was born. They were a bit shocked he was born with red hair - his other grandmother was ginger too and all her brothers. He’s the only one of my 4 with ginger hair. I always think it’s stunning, I’m brunette and it feels so dull in comparison to his lovely hair.

YouveGotAFastCar · 25/09/2024 11:23

Yeah, right now.

We used to get a lot of comments too, my son had similar hair. He’s nearly 3 now and it’s bright blonde instead. I’m sure it’ll end up dark like his dad, but it’s beautiful.

Tell your mum to wind her neck in and if she can’t stop commenting, stop seeing her until she does.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 25/09/2024 11:25

It has some red in it, which clearly is not a problem, but that colour could just as easily go brown or mousy later.

Freeeeeeedom · 25/09/2024 11:27

Ginger/red hair types are lovely 😭. My ds had hair a simlar colour to your baby. Then it went to a boring mousy colour.

Sorry your mum is being really unkind and silly. Just ignore her

rumred · 25/09/2024 11:28

I hope so. I'm ginger and like the fact my hair is uncommon and a lovely colour. Got prejudice as a kid so as a parent please encourage any ginger child to be happy with their colour.
It's ridiculous people still trot out the anti ginger shit. But they do.

Pascha · 25/09/2024 11:37

Ds2s little reddish patch at 5 months old turned into the most beautiful deep auburn copper colour which everyone loves.

If he's red, he's red. Embrace it and tell your mum to stop being so negative.

Yep. Ginger.
Tell your Mum to zip it.

WetBandits · 25/09/2024 11:44

He is 😍 and I hope he stays so, because ginger hair is gorgeous!

Chemenger · 25/09/2024 11:45

Unfortunately your mother is ignorant and rude. Tell her to shut up and get over her prehistoric views.

BeerForMyHorses · 25/09/2024 11:46

Yes he is ginger.
Babies hair changes all the time, through your childhood.

He may end up blonde, dark or ginger.

Your mum sounds weird.

spiderlight · 25/09/2024 11:48

Yes, and it'll be gorgeous! My DS is a redhead, and apart from a couple of wobbles with idiots in primary, he has totally owned it. When he was little, if anyone called his hair 'red' or 'strawberry blond', he would reply with an insistent 'It's GINGER!' (although now that he's 17 it is definitely more strawberry blond than it was). Tell your mum in no uncertain terms that the jokes have to stop now, though.

Comedycook · 25/09/2024 11:48

Looks like ginger hair to me...which is a lovely thing to have.

It's not the 1980s where ginger kids or kids with glasses get picked on anymore.

Singleandproud · 25/09/2024 11:49

DD is titian/ginger she has never been bullied for it. Midwife said that it shows a good mix of genes where both parents have brown hair as it is recessive gene. A mix of genes is good for all sorts of things.

Unkindness towards gingers actually seems to be more of an issue from adults rather than from modern children.

thursdaymurderclub · 25/09/2024 11:49

not a right lot you can do about it even if he is ginger? bear in mind the colour of babies hair changes regularly anyway, so it may appear ginger now but in a few months or years may different.. what colour is your hair and that of his dad? is ginger in the family somewhere? embrace it, love him for it..

Beth216 · 25/09/2024 11:50

Tell your mum she's showing her age by thinking it's ok to make jokes about ginger hair.
