When did you stop pre-wear washing baby clothes?

Just wondering the above really.

DD is 6 months. I have been washing all of her clothes before she wears them ever since she was born.

my mum has bought her a lovely outfit to wear tomorrow for my birthday lunch. I want to put her in it so as not to upset my mum and also think it’s lovely but I can’t get it washed and dried between now and then.

is 6 months an ok age to not faff around with pre-wear washes?

mine are 15 and 17 and i still do it.

Had them react to stuff on clothes too often not to. its always worth doing, even for your own.

Why?

Twinkletwinklelil · 10/05/2024 22:37

wouldn’t worry too much if you want to put a dress on her for tomorrow that isn’t washed, do it! Loads of people don’t pre wash. I should’ve added I do due to eczema.

DelurkingAJ · 10/05/2024 22:38

Never did. Two healthy DSs. Maybe I’d have behaved differently if they had underlying health conditions. (I also didn’t use non-biological detergents…as they had no pre-existing skin issues (and none after either)).

Why?

My next comment shares its because of eczema. Should’ve added that.
don’t want any adverse reactions when suffering enough with eczema. I have it and I know what it’s like

Ducksurprise · 10/05/2024 22:40

All teens still wash.

Industrial processes are not hygienic

Els1e · 10/05/2024 22:41

Mum is 85. Washes everything before wearing. 🤷‍♀️

ClonedSquare · 10/05/2024 22:41

I wash everything before it's worn (by anyone, adult or child) because it's gross not to. But I don't think it would be harmful to skip it once for a reason like this.

Themintwiththehole · 10/05/2024 22:43

I've never done this. I didn't even know it was a thing some people do.

Justbrowsing2024 · 10/05/2024 22:45

ALL clothes get washed before wear. They are dragged all over factories abroad, often have bugs etc in with them, dust dead skin, sweat etc. No idea why anyone wouldn't wash before wear its really disgusting.
I have family who work in the industry and have seen where the stuff comes from.
Most labels even say wash before wear because the manufacturers know too.
Wash the clothes

mrsfollowill · 10/05/2024 22:45

I only did it with the newborn clothes for DS- he's adult now and had worn things straight from the shops most of his life. No skin condition or sensitive skin though- I understand anyone who had may need to this. I used to work with a young woman years ago- she was in her early 20's and her mum insisted on handwashing all her clothes before she was allowed to wear them. Managed to wreck a new work suit she had bought 🙄- I'd go for it if I was you.

Aswellisnotoneword · 10/05/2024 22:46

Once no.1 was born! Pre-washing was a nesting thing. Didn't even cross my mind once I was busy with a baby.

SmallIslander · 10/05/2024 22:46

I've never washed anything new before wearing it.

Jamfirstest · 10/05/2024 22:46

Eh? I never pre washed anything.....

TheRainItRaineth · 10/05/2024 22:47

I stopped pre-washing on the same day I gave birth.

Onetiredbeing · 10/05/2024 22:48

I only wear mine after washing so have always done my dc.

DramaAlpaca · 10/05/2024 22:48

I never did. I only heard it was a thing on here, by which time my DC were well into their teens and doing their own laundry.

YouJustDoYou · 10/05/2024 22:49

I never did this. Babies all survived.

EmpressOfTheThread · 10/05/2024 22:49

I wash everything before wearing. I always have done, and always did it for my kids.
I just like to wear clean, fresh clothes.
I don't like to put something on straight from a factory, people have handled or that someone has tried on.

OneHeartySnail · 10/05/2024 22:49

I never knew it was a 'thing'

DC have never had any skin reaction. Nor me.

Cloclo93 · 10/05/2024 22:50

I never pre washed my dd clothes, never knew that was a thing

user09876543 · 10/05/2024 22:50

I’ve never started. I didn’t know it was a thing. What do you do if you buy an item as an adult? Still pre wash stuff? What if it’s dry clean only?

All perfectly healthy here having worn stuff new from the shop all our lives..
