Word for toddler girl private parts...

Weird question, sorry! Huge searchable history on here, I'm not a troll!

With ds it was easy - willy is freely used across the UK.

But I want dd 20 months to have a word to describe her vulva/vagina, for if she's hurt, needs a wee, has a uti etc. Right now she seems to think it's her bottom as I refer to changing her bottom/nappy. I don't want something ridiculous like flower, or something gross like minge or fanny. What's usual in your home/circles/region? She knows when she needs a 'wee wee' from copying her big brother. I could use that I suppose?

How about you call it a vulva like it's supposed to be??

Am i the only one that thinks WTF Is up with MN.

You can talk to your child about it but a whole thread on what to call it.
Yesterday it was someone wanting to watch her son take a piss.
This afternoons post was partner not wiping is backside.
Tonight is what can a toddler call her privet space.

Yes i know i will get someone that will quote me and tell me im in the wrong.

You're in the wrong Grin

Because why?

As PP said, the baby names thread is that way >

Your name is familiar. You don't like others having a different opinion, do you?

Interested in this thread?

Then you might like threads about these subjects:

Too true

CafeNervosa · 13/10/2023 22:07

We use vulva. If it feels awkward for you to say, it proves exactly why you need to demystify it for your daughter. Nothing to be ashamed of.

My two year old saying “vuvva” is really cute and it’ll do the job of helping you to feel more comfortable naming your vulva too.

BetterWithPockets · 13/10/2023 22:08

We use vagina. (I know it’s actually vulva but I didn’t fully appreciate the difference at the time.) I know what you mean, though; it would be great if there were a female equivalent of willy.

Chesterdrawls · 13/10/2023 22:09

We use foof or foofie. She also knows it is called a vulva as I suffer vulvadynia and I am not shy talking about this. I have zero qualms discussing any of this with either of my children. It is weird that people say you need to use the correct terms (there are slang terms for lots of different parts of the body). Especially people who have said you shouldn't use front bottom as that is where you poo from when actually poo comes out your anus.

Honeybee798 · 13/10/2023 22:11

We call it a foof as that’s what everyone I know calls it. I’m thinking maybe I should start calling it a vulva to DD now after reading this thread as foof doesn’t seem as well used as I thought!

LaBohemia · 13/10/2023 22:15

@fearfuloffluff regarding vagina meaning "sheath", well that's what it for ! It's a home for a penis ! 😁😀

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 13/10/2023 22:17

We had "Willy" and "Wilma".

LolSpinner · 13/10/2023 22:23

I've two daughter and two sons. They always knew the correct words but in day to day life we would use 'bits and bobs'or willy. They would bath together when they were little so I'd remind them to wash their bits and bobs. This was pre-Mumsnet and I honestly hadn't given the subject any thought. We had a few books about human anatomy and reproduction and we were comfortable using the correct terms it's just that it felt more natural to use nick names just as we used tummy, bum etc.
One thing that amazes me is that apart from bath time when the kids were really little I can't think of a single time when my kids have talked about their penises/vaginas or vulvas so I'm not convinced this subject is worth all the Mumsnet angst. Our family are quite relaxed about chatting about sex etc and I've had the kids comolain about constipation so it's not a matter of them being too shy it's just that there has never been a reason too.

I don't believe that anyone that's received any safeguarding training wouldn't be aware that kids use all sorts of euphemisms or foreign words if they are from non English speaking families for their penises/vulvas etc.

HateTheView · 13/10/2023 22:25

Va jay jay OBVIOUSLY!

But seriously, I would just teach her the proper names. It's only you that's embarrassed by them!

If YOU really can't handle it, then privates, private parts, private area, might work?

QS90 · 13/10/2023 22:29

In Blackpool, we used "front bottom", as others have suggested. Also "tail" for penis, which seems odd to me now!

When we moved down South, everyone called it a "Minnie miner" or "muff".

CallieQ · 13/10/2023 22:02

I love people having a different opinion. This place would be incredibly boring without. Doesn't mean I agree with them.

Snugglemonkey · 13/10/2023 22:39

crankit · 13/10/2023 21:39

And what did you say when he asked what sex was ? He's 7, I wouldn't like explaining the act of sex to a kid personally

If you are a parent, it is your job! There are great books and many resources to help you. You do children a massive disservice when you do not give them proper information in a non shameful fashion.

Snugglemonkey · 13/10/2023 22:41

aveline161 · 13/10/2023 21:39

Hate all this vulva bollocks (so to speak)- my 6 year old knows she had a VAGINA but we rarely need to discuss that, her issues tend to be around her WEEHOLE and how many toddlers are going to learn to say urethra with ease? A willy is a willy, we are more complex. So you need two terms, vagina being one and a specific wee hole word, that is easy to say. Like wee hole. Hideous i know!

You hate the correct terminology for a body part? Are you calling her vulva a vagina?

Beansandneedles · 13/10/2023 22:44

Love yoni! We use penis and willy interchangeably for my son and I wanted a softer term than vulva as an option for my daughter. I'm fine with the word vulva, but foof, mini and front bottom, or lady parts all feel weird for me! Thanks for sharing this one :)

Foxy1616 · 13/10/2023 23:05

“Vuvva” & “‘gina” (rhymes with china) when very young (I think foof could be a natural progression from vuvva to foofa)
These are near enough to not be ambiguous but slightly less anatomical if you need “cute”

Duttercup · 13/10/2023 23:09

I say 'bits' day-to-day, she knows vulva in the same way she knows tummy and stomach and peepers and eyes and peach and bum.

Never clear to me why people act like this is the only body part with a nickname.

Appleofmyeye2023 · 13/10/2023 23:21

Not using the right language is an appalling and embarrassing legacy for women, and we women are propagating this, as seen by these posts

i had a large cyst on my labia at aged 35 . I went to GP. I didn’t even know how the fuck to pronounce the word to the Gp ( la- bia? Lay-bia? Lab-ia? ). It was embarrassing that up till then I’d never heard anyone say it out loud. 🤯 I’m only just over 60. I’d ven had 2 kids by that point and still didn’t know how to say it 🤦‍♀️

really, please gift your daughters the vocabulary they need to go through life to explain what they need to a doctor or a lover…never mind the sexual abuse stuff.

vulva, vagina, urethra, labia and yes clitoris …add to the list as they get older and can distinguish each part.

I wouldn’t want a penis making a home in there 🤢…bloody uncomfortable after first hour and not great when it needs to urinate 🤦‍♀️

it’s also fairly useful for most births - though not always so obliging in some.

Well not a permanent home of course. Maybe a temporary squatting rights situation!
