there are many threads here preaching a 'holier than thou' message, and I want to say.........

......I am not perfect, I am not the greatest mum ever (altho I really would like to be able to say I am), and I am also not the best person to ask for advice on feeding kiddies the 'perfect' diet........

there are many threads here stating how we feed our DC's, treat out DC's, raise our DC's, and for the most part we all agree....

but surely.....(and I speak a lot for myself here)

sometimes we also LIE!!!

I have my standards, and 75% of the time I try to stick to them, but 25% of the time I either fail, or take my time remembering and so parenting cana be a little slack in these periods.

BUT

when there are threads here, I give advice and sometimes realise that I have 'twisted' the truth somewhat in my favour......

I don;t give my kiddies as much veg as I claim at times....or at least...I find I offer said veg, just they refuse it and it ends in the bin. (Altho that is not the post I would add at times)'

I offer fruit each day....only 3 of them eat with any enjoyment, and the other 2 have suplements.

I give them chocolate every day, and icecream, and pudding (well, that comes under the icecream TBH), they have crisps too most days...........

I have smacked them (altho sinse being here more, I haven;t and even DD1 said the other day that she can;t remember me ever smacking altho I still threaten it for the 'count to three' threat. It works, as I have never got to 3...!

I even allow a take-away each week.....

Oh, and as for chicken.....no idea where it comes from, altho that will be changing soon as the taste is definatley different as I have tested

and...............I drive to school......

please tell me I haven't confessed all and am now going to be pelted with stones....

well you see carmen - I need every penny I've got to fund my chocolate and library fine vices

I have to be honest and clarify - that the charity is in the relatives buying the knickers - the knickers themselves are new.

Donbean - I will call your bluff with the tale of when my dd2 said to my mum that she felt sick and I insisted that she was making it up. About five minutes later she was very sick on mum's carpet!

donbean · 02/03/2008 15:22

ok,
i have eaten a christmas present wrapped up and given from a pal of mine to my son a week before christmas.
I knew it was a selection box, and needed chocolate. so ate it.

Am nervous of my lack of self control as Easter looms..........

nothing wrong with eating children's easter eggs - blaming it on the baby would be a low blow - but one I think I'm up for this year - poor dd3!

donbean · 02/03/2008 15:27

doitdoitdoit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Doesnt have to be a large one.

us northern birds are well hard rotten parent arent we?????

NorthernLurker · 02/03/2008 15:28

it's the lack of sunshine.

Psychomum5 · 02/03/2008 15:28

oooh.........I raise all this a give.....

one time I was ask out for lunch with a friend not seen in a while......I had no money......I knew that DD3 did, so I took her savings from her money box and left an IOU in it's place.....

NorthernLurker · 02/03/2008 15:29

Pyscho - I've borrowed from kids before - but dd1 is a very canny bod - she needs to be with a flaky mother like me - I pay them back - with interest!

donbean · 02/03/2008 15:30

thats not hard psycho................now if you had taken said savings for cans of special brew THEN you could offer something substantial....

Psychomum5 · 02/03/2008 15:31

interest???

nope, the only interest they get from me is about their day at school

I have a very rose tinted view of my parenting.
I forget what I have posted on Mn say 3 mths, 6 mths or 1 year ago.
yesterday I was reading some of my old posts and I even frightened my self at how :
Obnoxious I am
what a miserable existence it sounded

I don't work on a mon and a fri. I often don't get dressed. There is a mad panic at 4pm, prior to dh's arrival home.
And ds has been sitting in front of superman II, 4 times repeatedly, whilst I mumsnet.

Yeah, put me forward for the parent of the year award.
Holier than thou threads don't bother me , to be honest. I am on most of them.
Someone bring me back down to earth, with a bump/kick, next time I post please ?

NorthernLurker · 02/03/2008 15:44

ooooh yes - I do a frantic clean up the kitchen before dh gets home - don't want him to think I've spent all day on mnet do I?

Joolyjoolyjoo · 02/03/2008 15:47

If my DH comes home and I'm at the computer, I grab the baby and shove my boob in his mouth! This also works for getting out of washing up etc. DH thinks we have the hungriest boy in town. I love breastfeeding !!

Oblomov · 02/03/2008 15:51

I certainly don't deliberatly lie about my parenting , on MN. But I seem to forget all the bad bits. And I certianly forget how miserable/upset/obsessed I get about .....ds aged 2,2.3 etc, not doing something.
Is that what you guys mean by lying ?

carmenelectra · 02/03/2008 15:52

Oh i always borrow from ds1's money box. Ido it quite regularly. Usually for his 75p bus fare to school

I have even actually taken money from his bank account(usually for Christmas pressies/holiday spending money). Well i gave him most of it so i can do what i like.

Twiglett · 02/03/2008 15:54
NorthernLurker · 02/03/2008 15:55

joooly - I usually go onto our banks site quick and frown at the screen in serious financial contemplation!

Oblomov · 02/03/2008 15:57

Nlurker, I do that.
Then dh said to me, why do you always close MN down as soon as I come in the room.
Foiled again !!!

NorthernLurker · 02/03/2008 16:02

they're not always as unobservant as we'd like to think are they?

Oblomov · 02/03/2008 16:06

fraid not. dh and ds are the smae. don't miss a trick. and both selective hearing. can't hear request, but can hear a crisp packet being opened !!

NorthernLurker · 02/03/2008 16:07

and so we're back to crisps

Oblomov · 02/03/2008 16:12

Have we gone full circle on the crisps ?
I was too busy focusing on the -out-of-a-tin-hotdogs and eating your childrens easter eggs

Bridie3 · 02/03/2008 16:14

Nutella for breakfast everyday.
Biscuits every day.
DSs, laptops, Wii.
At least an hour TV every night. Usually two.

BUT

Two healthy, happy children who do well at school, sport and music, read like crazy and are (usually) nice to other people.

Doesn't bother me what other people think, I'm very happy with my family.

NorthernLurker · 02/03/2008 16:16

pyscho's op mentioned crisps

Oblomov - I hope you've been taking notes!
