Almost 12 month old not walking

Hi all,
Our daughter will be 1 year old on Aug 27. She is not walking yet. Over the past month she has gone from army crawl to regular crawling, to pulling up on furniture to now crawling up stairs. She occasionally moves along furniture side to side as well.
For some reason we are worried that she is not walking. I think we are just overthinking but would like to hear some others point of views…When did your kids start walking?

If she can do all of these things is walking just around the corner? Like I assume she is using her leg muscles to crawl and climb stairs right? For some reason I am worried she won’t be able to walk….sounds silly but I am consumed with it now.

Just looking for some opinions. Thanks

She’s still only 12 months, she will be fine.

SquigglePigs · 19/08/2023 15:05

My DD took her first steps at about 13 months having been similar to yours at 12 months. Still well within the normal range.

RaceToTheMiddle · 19/08/2023 15:05

She is doing all the things babies do before walking. 12 months is still very young for walking!
My 3 were:
12 months, 11 months. And 16 months.

Don’t let it consume you!! They are doing all the right things.

Mine were 11 and 15 months ….

HarrietJet · 19/08/2023 15:06

It's perfectly normal to not be walking at 12 months, op. I think 14 months is about the average?

cadburyegg · 19/08/2023 15:06

Before 1 year is still early? My ds1 walked at 14 months and ds2 at 22 months. Ds2 was later due to being hypermobile. The physio said it's not considered "late" til 18+ months

rosie561 · 19/08/2023 15:07

My daughter started walking at 11 months and that was really early. My son started at 14, nearly 15 months and of the two he was much steadier from the get go and fell over much less. He cruised for ages before he walked properly. 12 months is really early to walk so don't panic.

BertieBotts · 19/08/2023 15:07

Typical range for walking is between 12-18 months. Under 12 months is early!

Similar with talking - they are expected to have first word by 18 months and I think 5 words by age 2.

We tend to think of walking and talking being "first birthday" milestones, but actually they usually happen some time around the first half of the second year (so age 1 - 1.5)

Not quite 12 months isn’t late AT ALL to be walking. I have three kids. One walked at 11.5 months, one at 12 months, one at 17 months. They are now all teenagers. They are all good runners and pretty active all round. The one who walked last is probably the most physically able of the three.

VivaVivaa · 19/08/2023 15:07

16 months. Before 12 months has been the exception, not the norm amongst my group of friends.

TeleTropes · 19/08/2023 15:07

Most 12 month olds don’t walk. Don’t worry.

BertieBotts · 19/08/2023 15:08

You can always contact your health visitor with any developmental questions BTW - they can tell you what milestones to look for and what's normal :)

RisingSunn · 19/08/2023 15:08

Perfectly normal.

Fixesplease · 19/08/2023 15:10

I had me a lazy boy he didn't start walking until a week before he turned 18 months, once he did he was running with in 2 days. He's not stopped since. Enjoy the fact she can't easily escape you yet!

rainbug · 19/08/2023 15:12

I have three kids and they all started walking at different times. My oldest didn't start walking until 17 months. My middle child started walking at 9.5months. My youngest started walking at 11 months

yogasaurus · 19/08/2023 15:13

Lots of 12 month olds don’t walk.

DumpedByText · 19/08/2023 15:14

My DD didn't walk until 18 months, she didn't crawl either, she just bum shuffled everywhere. One day she's just got up and walked! I really wouldn't worry.

Runnerinthenight · 19/08/2023 15:16

I wouldn't be rushing her lol - she will be into everything!!

Mine walked at 13 months, 15 months and 13 months.

ForeverAndEvers · 19/08/2023 15:19

Mine walked at 14 months. Looking at friend's children there's been a huge variation between when they all started walking from 9 months - 18 months ish.

bakewellbride · 19/08/2023 15:21

Mine started walking at 14 months and now at 17 months confidently walks and runs absolutely everywhere! It's exhausting and she wants to stop and look at every little flower / front door / cat. Enjoy the pre-walking stage while it lasts.

Ds walked for the first time at 18 months and now at 5 you'd have no idea when he first walked. He's doing amazingly and has a gymnastics medal.

When they first walk does not matter. My friend didn't do it until 2 and is a very successful adult!

Aquamarine1029 · 19/08/2023 15:23

Op, LOADS of babies don't walk at 12 months. This is totally normal. Your baby will walk when she's ready to.

Mummyboy1 · 19/08/2023 15:24

Mine started at 17 months, the hv said they would only start to get concerned if there were no attempts to walk after 18 months. She's got plenty of time .

Greenfishy · 19/08/2023 15:25

She’s doing all the right stuff. DS walked at 15 months. It’s all good!!

Cowlover89 · 19/08/2023 15:27

My 16month isn't walking yet. I'm not worried. He'll walk when he's ready

SlippySarah · 19/08/2023 15:30

Both mine were walking early, about 10 months, and it was very unusual. People constantly commented on it and i had to stop going to baby groups because they kept walking off! It was a bit of a nightmare as they were so unsteady and fell over, tripped, ran into things constantly. I'd rather they had continued crawling and walked at a more developmentally appropriate time tbh.
