Almost 12 month old not walking

Hi all,
Our daughter will be 1 year old on Aug 27. She is not walking yet. Over the past month she has gone from army crawl to regular crawling, to pulling up on furniture to now crawling up stairs. She occasionally moves along furniture side to side as well.
For some reason we are worried that she is not walking. I think we are just overthinking but would like to hear some others point of views…When did your kids start walking?

If she can do all of these things is walking just around the corner? Like I assume she is using her leg muscles to crawl and climb stairs right? For some reason I am worried she won’t be able to walk….sounds silly but I am consumed with it now.

Just looking for some opinions. Thanks

I didn't walk until 18 months, never crawled, was a bum shuffler.

I got there eventually.

DS walked at 10.5 months. It could go either way, and neither matters.

husbandcallsmepickle · 19/08/2023 15:32

My DS was 16 months

Honestly from what you have described I wouldn’t worry too much.

Sounds totally normal OP, my kids walked at 10 months and 14 months my niece walked at 17 months and her brother on his 1st birthday all classed as normal times x

WonderingWanda · 19/08/2023 16:00

My first couldn't even be bothered to crawl. He learnt to sit up at 8 months then just sat and played and screeched for me to pass him things. Then at 13 months hecrawled to the sofa to pull up, spent a week cruising along it and then just started walking.

UndercoverCop · 19/08/2023 16:02

DS wasn't walking on his first birthday, he's 4 now and does not stop moving/running/climbing, don't worry

Silvers11 · 19/08/2023 16:03

It's perfectly normal OP. My son was VERY early and started at 9 months and I think it was 1 week - but it might have been 2 weeks. No indication prior that he was ready. BUT he was very slow to talk - around 2 and a half before he did, really. They all develop at different rates.

Yours sounds like she is progressing to walking exactly the way my daughter did and she was about 12 months. No need to worry ,at all

TheShellBeach · 19/08/2023 16:06

One of mine walked at ten months and it was a nightmare chasing after him!
The other three were more like 14 - 15 months.
They're all normal adults now.

girlygirly · 19/08/2023 16:16

Mine were 8 months (yep, really) and 18 months. Fortunately eldest was 18 months, and he was a hefty child so not surprised. How many school children do you see only crawling? Stop worrying until your HV does...

larkstar · 19/08/2023 16:16

I really wouldn't worry - my first started at 10.5 months, the second at 13.5 months - and she's the runner, swimmer, kickboxer, outdoor rock climber - you can't infer anything - they are all so different. The first had to be karate chopped to get her strapped into a pushchair, the second was was super lazy when it came to walking anywhere.

LocalHobo · 19/08/2023 16:16

Mine were 23 months, 25 months and 22 months. DS never crawled either. I think they were concentrating on talking much more than walking!
My Dneice was 26 months (she was being referred by this time) but now represents her state at long distance running.

NoWordForFluffy · 19/08/2023 16:17

DD was 14 months. DS was 9 (!) months. They're all different and she's not yet outside of the normal range for walking. She sounds like she's getting there though.

ladyvivienne · 19/08/2023 16:20

8 months for baby one. 19 months for baby two.

12 months is nothing to worry about at all not walking. I would say my 8 month old was not normal and my 19month old at the edge of normal.

PinkPlantCase · 19/08/2023 16:22

Completely normal

TropicalTrama · 19/08/2023 16:25

Most are around 1 but really it can anything from 9-15 months and based on my friend’s little boy, the health visitor and the GP don’t consider it late until they are 18 months. Anecdotal but I’ve noticed that crawlers tend to be later and often the more proficient the crawler the later they are. DC1 never crawled but walked at 9 months. DC2 did and was 12 months.

headcheffer · 19/08/2023 16:27

She's not even a year old. She's got loads of time.

Iwasafool · 19/08/2023 16:27

One of mine didn't walk until 14 months, it is within normal range. Nothing to worry about. I think good crawlers often walk later, I had one who didn't crawl and walked just before 10 months.

Floralnomad · 19/08/2023 16:27

My eldest sister barely moved until she was 16 months and she’s fine and runs half marathons in her early 60s

Olika · 19/08/2023 16:28

It will be fine. She will walk when she is ready.

HarrietJet · 19/08/2023 16:31

Yes, I imagine quite a lot changes over 60 years!

Notellinganyone · 19/08/2023 16:31

Mine didn’t walk until she was 16 months. It’s fine.

ThirdGo · 19/08/2023 16:43

My first was 14m and my second was 10m. She'll do it when she wants 🥰

MindPalace · 19/08/2023 16:45

15 and 17 months. Late walkers but early talkers. Someone told me that was a common thing but who knows?

Thebeachut · 19/08/2023 16:52

My daughter's walked at 15 and 17 months
My first wasn't crawling until 12 months

AegonT · 19/08/2023 16:54

Walking usually happens between 10 and 18 months with the most usual time for first steps being between 12 and 15 months. Mine walked at 17 and 14 month. We weren't at all worried or impatient about the one who walked at 14 months. The one who walked at 17 months was referred to a physio as she didn't crawl, cruise or pull to standing at 15 months.
