Almost 12 month old not walking

Hi all,
Our daughter will be 1 year old on Aug 27. She is not walking yet. Over the past month she has gone from army crawl to regular crawling, to pulling up on furniture to now crawling up stairs. She occasionally moves along furniture side to side as well.
For some reason we are worried that she is not walking. I think we are just overthinking but would like to hear some others point of views…When did your kids start walking?

If she can do all of these things is walking just around the corner? Like I assume she is using her leg muscles to crawl and climb stairs right? For some reason I am worried she won’t be able to walk….sounds silly but I am consumed with it now.

Just looking for some opinions. Thanks

Sounds completely normal, she is developing at a good pace and I'd be surprised if she isn't walking soon. Mine was the same, he was a big baby and struggled with the weight of walking his legs I think

MyEyesMyThighs · 19/08/2023 16:59

People, including grandparents, round down in the extreme when they talk about walking.

We went to about 20 first birthday parties and there were only two where the birthday child was walking. However, around half now say their child walked before their first birthday. Similarly, everyone has had their parents tell them how early they walked. I think our memories group things together, so when you remember having a 1yo, that's probably mixing up things from 11m to 19m or so.

Ds never crawled, walked at 11 months and fell over frequently (later discovered he's dyspraxic). Dd walked at 13.5 months, she could crawl really well and didn't seem interested in walking, she was much steadier on her feet and progressed to running quite soon after. Anything up to 18 months is well within normal and if your dd is pulling up to stand, she can weight bear on her legs so it doesn't sound like anything to worry about

It's completely normal. Lots of kids don't walk till after age one.

LT2 · 19/08/2023 17:22

But.. she's so young🤨
I walked at 15 months.
My son walked at 14 months.

Nottodaty · 19/08/2023 17:33

I was an early walker at 10 months so assumed my children would take after me….nope eldest was nearly 17 months and youngest 13 months.
Eldest was the last out of her baby group & my younger one was the second one.

lljkk · 19/08/2023 17:38

My kids were early walkers (9-11m).
Their 2nd cousins were late walkers (15-17m).
All adults now & you never could tell any difference in any other way, anyway.

SingingSands · 19/08/2023 17:52

Eldest was a bum shuffler who didn't walk until 17 months. Youngest took first proper steps on his first birthday.

Mumski45 · 19/08/2023 20:54

DS2 didn't walk till he was 15 months. However I'm warning you he is still lazy now at 15 years. 🤣

StampOnTheGround · 19/08/2023 20:57

8.5 months, enjoy it while you can, don't wish it to come sooner as it's a different level of chaos - especially when they do it too young to understand!

Agree with PP's, I found under 12 months was not normal and it kind of started happening more regularly any time between 12-18 months. DS is now 16 months and there are still quite a few in a group I'm in who are the same age as him, and not walking.

Your daughter sounds like she's doing wonderfully 😊

RecklessBlackberries · 19/08/2023 21:03

My son could confidently pull up and coast along furniture at a year old. He didn't take any independent steps at all until 15 months and only started walking properly (ie more than a foot or two at a time) at 17 months. All perfectly normal

ItLooksLikeChickenSoItMustBeChicken · 19/08/2023 21:04

She'll be fine. Give her a couple of months and she'll be off - and then she'll be into everything.

continentallentil · 19/08/2023 21:06

I think I was about 16 months

my mother swears a friend of mine was nearly two

We’ve both walked fine ever since…

dikwad · 19/08/2023 21:06

Mine didn't walk until he was a month shy of being two. Nothing wrong with him he just couldn't be arsed!

fartfacenotfatface · 19/08/2023 21:07

Crikey. Most children don't start walking until they're over 12 months. Mine were 14-15 months and were in the middle age range of our baby group cohort. Some walked a bit earlier (very few walked before 12 months though) and a couple were 18+ months. All perfectly normal, healthy babies.

pollykitty · 19/08/2023 21:17

my DD walked at 11 months and it was a total nightmare. Leave it, she’ll be fine. Most kids don’t walk until they are at least 15 months. Some not until 2 years.

Bumblebee112 · 19/08/2023 21:26

Just another one to reassure you @Wingo22.

Best friend and I have boys 2 months apart. Hers crawled early at 6 months, then didn’t walk until 15 months.
Mine army crawled at 8ish months, properly crawled at 10 months and walked at 10.5 months 😅

They’re both now 2.5 and there’s no way of telling who did what first 😊 they all get there in their own time!

indyocean · 19/08/2023 21:45

Not many babies can walk at 12m

OrangeJuice9 · 19/08/2023 21:47

Don’t worry at all! DD was 16 months. But she’s so intelligent (now 6) and very smart for her age. Do not worry, it won’t affect them!

weegiemum · 19/08/2023 21:47

My dc walked at

Dd1 - 15 months
Ds - 17 months
Dd2 -13 months

All 3 have regional cross country running placing a and ds plays rugby for his university.

It will be fine!

Justgonefishing · 19/08/2023 21:50

Mine was 22/23 moths so had him seen by the paediatric physio and even then they weren’t worried about it!

Dyra · 19/08/2023 22:51

DD cruised super early. Like virtually as she learnt to crawl at 6-7mo early. We thought she'd be an early walker, but nope. 16 months she finally walked independently.

DS was a bit slower at crawling and cruising. We figured walking would equally be late. And we were right. He has only just started walking independently at 17.5 months. Still prefers to crawl if things are a few more steps away.

12 months is still early. Honestly, don't worry about it.

friedgoldeggs · 19/08/2023 22:52

DS was around 14 months but can range anywhere from 10 months to 18 months

Mrsmch123 · 19/08/2023 23:10

My child was 17 months before he walked. Runs everywhereeeeeeeeeeee now😂

Kisskiss · 19/08/2023 23:15

Coasting and crawling up stairs is good! Mine was the same- he didn’t take his first steps till 13m and still preferred to crawl until around 14m ( I think)
as long as they are doing the other stuff, coasting, active exploring, it’ll be fine. Soon she’ll be running everywhere and you’ll miss the pre walking days 😆
