Worrying I am getting too old for baby number 2 - help

My ds is 5. I desperately want another child - maybe 2!

Because of circumstance (I am very overweight and need to loose some weight) and finances it could be another 1 year before we can start trying for our second child.

This is really effecting me. I am 33 in April and I am worrying that I am getting too old.

I need advice as to whether I am worrying over nothing. All my friends with kids are younger and this makes me feel old! lol

thanks

Heavens to Betsy, girl, I was 37 when I had my first.

motherinferior · 20/02/2008 20:58

Sorry, that sounded very brusque - just meaning to say really, you're a mere infant, relax!

PanicPants · 20/02/2008 20:59

I hope you're not as I'm 33 and will carry on trying for no.2 after I get married in July - and by then I'll be 34!

I can hear the clock ticking now.

Hang around here for a bit ssumers and you'll start to feel too young to have a 5 year old

llareggub · 20/02/2008 20:59

You are worrying over nothing. I am also 33 this year and grappling with weight issues.

I had fertility treatment with my first and during the process my consultant told me that my chance of conceiving would be greatly increased by every 10% of my body weight that I lost. It was quite an incentive, I can tell you. Fertility just drop after 35 (I've heard) so it might be worth addressing the weight issue if you are worried?

You are not old.

chelsygirl · 20/02/2008 21:00

come on ss, surely you know at 33 you are ever so slightly offending a lot of mums here saying you are getting too old to have another child?

posieflump · 20/02/2008 21:00

you have another 10 years or maybe more
don't stress, get cracking on the weightloss (is it essential?)

Rosa · 20/02/2008 21:00

I think you will find that there are a fair few Mnetters a bit older with infants / pg. Good luck with the weight loss.

Bubble99 · 20/02/2008 21:01

ssummers. Round these parts you would be considered a young mother!

I had my fourth child at 40.

evenhope · 20/02/2008 21:02

I was 43 when I had my DD

cadelaide · 20/02/2008 21:04

Tsk.
You're a mere baby yourself.

ssummers · 20/02/2008 21:08

Thank you all so much. Really helped get things into prosective.

It is unfortunate that a lot of people I know are very young - so i feel older perhaps than I am.
I really do need to tackle my weight issues first - so it may be a while.

Sorry if I have offended anyone or come accross agest! This is infact the opposite of my intentions and the very thing I am experiencing in my life. I will have a look around mumsnet to better acquaint myself with what to post!

Thanks again guys.

You'll be 34 with proven fertility? Yep, I think you're worrying over nothing.

shabster · 20/02/2008 21:09

I was almost 41 when I had my fourth son - so definitly not too old, I was also overweight (still am). Over the last five years I have lost about a stone per year - very slow but getting there! I cant diet, as soon as someone says diet I am hungry. Just try and eat as healthy as possible.

Ce sera sera - whatever will be will be

CoteDAzur · 20/02/2008 21:10

You are worrying over nothing

I had DD when 34.5 and now only started thinking about no 2, and I am 37 this year.

threestars · 20/02/2008 21:14

I'll be 36 when my 2nd one is born! DH is even talking about a 3rd (but he can talk till he's blue in the face...)
Being an old girl, I don't care that i'm not going clubbing or painting the town red (or however the young ones describe it as now).

I used to work on a delivery suite and sometimes there'd be a 44 year old in one room, and a 14 year old in the room next-door. Both would find labour just as hard as each other and I'm sure both would find the ups and downs of motherhood just as rewarding/challenging for each other too.

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 20/02/2008 21:18

I had third child in four years 10 weeks ago and I am 41 in July

You cant do anything about your age and you have loads on your side but you can do something about your weight as that clearly worries you.

Have loads of kids and all that running around, the weight will drop off!!

Good luck

cadelaide · 20/02/2008 21:56

No offence here ssummers, just envy!

hotbot · 20/02/2008 22:11

mistlethrush · 20/02/2008 22:14

37 for #1 (after 6yrs waiting) - 2mc down the line, 40 this year, still hoping for #2

sandcastles · 20/02/2008 22:15

I fell for #2 2 months after my 34th birthday.

It was quicker TTC#2 than it was #1!

You have heaps of time.

I was a couple of months off 38 when I had our first and still hoping there's life in the old girl yet for another go

Best of luck with your health goals and future baby plans xxxxx

bookwormmum · 20/02/2008 22:32

Crikey you are younger than me and I'm hoping to pop another one out before I'm 40 or so (assuming I meet someone else of course) - I'm 36 in a month. I had my first at 28 and was asked why I was having a baby so early .

mylovelymonster · 20/02/2008 22:41

bwm - hope you find someone gorgeous xx
