Worrying I am getting too old for baby number 2 - help

My ds is 5. I desperately want another child - maybe 2!

Because of circumstance (I am very overweight and need to loose some weight) and finances it could be another 1 year before we can start trying for our second child.

This is really effecting me. I am 33 in April and I am worrying that I am getting too old.

I need advice as to whether I am worrying over nothing. All my friends with kids are younger and this makes me feel old! lol

thanks

you're a youngster!
I had my first at 36, 2nd at 38 and 3rd at 42.
..(er..maybe i'm just very old...)
you're dooing the right thing trying to ,lse some weight first and makiing sure you're healthy (i lost weight before dd, now nearly 3, then pout it all back on while pregnant/breastfeeding.. ho-hum..)
but health is more of an issue than age usually.
good luck!

I'm a week off 32 and planning to have #3 in about two or three years time(if a champagne induced lack of contraception doesn't make me due this Nov!)My sis was born ten years after me when my mum was 36(which I now regard as still young---ish!) so I guess my norm is babies in your 20s and thirties (Not wanting to offend any MNers over 39-I stress MY NORM for ME!)

Anyway, I'm a young 'un round these parts so although i was a mum at 27, I AM the baby about my pals.

I'd give anything to be your age! I had my first at 39 and after a MMC at 40, we're hoping to start giving it a go for DC2 in the next couple of months. Go for it - you've enough time for 10!

I'm 42 and sitting here with my first who was born 8 weeks ago today. The doctor didn't bat an eyelid when i went in and even made the observation that she sees as many "accidents" in women my age as in women a lot younger (apparently we think we're past it and get careless)

The only issue I had that the midwife put down to age was that it took a while for my milk to come in.

I'll admit I'm a fairly fit and healthy 42 year old so I'd agree health is as important as age. I'm not saying +40 is the ideal age to start but at 33 you've heaps of time.

rockdoctor · 26/02/2008 15:48

PS I'll admit that mine was a bit of a surprise hence the doctor's observation. No offence to women that are planning their babies into their 40s - I'm even starting to wonder if I can squeeze another one out before I hit 45

thank you MrsTittleMouswe, never used this before so not sure what to do. By the way forgot to mention, i was 34 when I had my first child and will be 36 this year, hence why I'd prefer to get pregnant now. do worry about health implications as I'm getting older and I've alsobeen told it's harder to conceive post 35?

MrsTittleMouse · 26/02/2008 21:23

Hi gr

There is an "add new thread in this topic" button right at the top of this post. If you click on that it will take you to a page where you can set up your own thread.

In answer to your question, it is harder to conceive over 35, but that's a very general statement. Some women conceive very quickly, some take longer, and you never know which group you'll be in. For what it's worth, I'm older than you and have just conceived DB2 first time, which came as quite a shock. The good news for you is that women who are trying to conceive their first baby over 35 tend to have a worse time of it (although there are plenty of exceptions to the rule on this thread). If you have proven fertility then the news is much brighter.

debinaustria · 27/02/2008 08:25

gr - took me 6 months to conceive ds1 at age 30, 1 month to conceive ds2 at age 32 and 1 month to conceive this baby at age 38 - so it's not always harder!!!

ismellofbabysick · 27/02/2008 10:42

I was 32 for DD1, 35 for DD2 and 2 weeks away from 38 for DD3.
Good luckxxxx

OMG! I had my first baby at 33 and now am pregnant with baby number 6 (whoops!) at 44. Loads of time! Trying not to be offended. 33 old! Try 44 and preggers, now that is old!

whatme · 27/02/2008 19:16

definitely not not old, #1 at 35, #2 at 37, #3 at almost 40

princessmel · 27/02/2008 19:23

I was 24 when I had ds and 26 when I had dd.

Most of the mums at ds's school are older than me. I'm the youngest by 4 years out of his class mums. (at 29) Most are in their 30's.

DloeufyDoo · 27/02/2008 19:25

Had my second at 37.Friend had her 4th at 45
