Should I let my 17 year old get filler?

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on whether I should let my 17 year old get a small amount of lip filler? She has begged me for years so when she was 16 I said we would look into it. She is a straight A student who is extremely respectful. If I allow it I have more control over it rather then me saying no and she gets it done cheap and secretly. PLEASE HELP

I would show her what happened to Pete burns and Leslie ash, you don't know how you will react to it!

I don’t look unsubtle - I’ve zoomed in on my lips there and I’ve had 0.5 ml. If I’d posted a pic of my lips without filler and claimed to have had it done, I guarantee someone would say it was obvious. Anyway I’m happy with my appearance and I definitely don’t look like a duck (I’m sure someone will be along to tell me that I do and I look awful).

Anyway that’s besides the point - I have a 17 year old and I absolutely wouldn’t let her have it done either!

Sad to see those pics of Meg Ryan. All those treatments in a desperate attempt to look younger. Not only does she not look younger (if anything she now looks older than her 61 years), but she also doesn’t look like Meg Ryan 😕

Yeah, this is what confuses me about cosmetic surgery - they never look younger (which I assume is the point for most) but instead look like someone their age (or older) who has had cosmetic surgery 🤷🏻‍♀️

When Kylie Jenner had hers done, she went from a fresh faced cute teenage girl to an over-sexed, purring 35yr old woman.

If even 0.5 gives you ‘the shelf’ then I’m guessing it’s all going to look obvious.

Is that the lowest amount?

I think it’s ‘the shelf’ that gives it away. The lip has a ridge.

caringcarer · 04/05/2023 19:09

No

JaneAustenshandbag · 04/05/2023 19:10

I don’t notice a ridge but it doesn’t bother me anyway - I don’t look overdone and I would only ever have a top up once a year at most. I do think there’s a difference between that and Meg Ryan and it may just be a matter of personal taste.

I don’t usually wear much make up, my hair is natural but I have a thin top lip that disappears when I smile, so I have a bit of filler sometimes and I feel better.

I didn’t start at 17 though - I was 30! I do think youngsters filling their faces is sad - it’s not needed.

PainfulPiles · 04/05/2023 20:07

My colleague had it done and said it was really painful both during and afterwards for quite a while. That might dissuade her slightly.

Also look at the Love Island woman who had her fillers removed. She looked so good without them! Ok, she was an extreme example but I bet "can't notice it" isn't the look your DD is going for. Otherwise what's the point?!

I'm definitely in the minority here but I can't stand this whole false plastic look were they host the big ridiculous eyelashes and pumped up lips and super white teeth

RampantIvy · 04/05/2023 23:01

I don’t look overdone

I don't think you look overdone either, but you definitely do look like you have had some filler. Your upper lipp looks too shiny and full for it to be natural.

I think most people would agree with you @sweettoffeecake. There is another, fast moving, thread about hving stuff done currently on MN, and most posters are of the same opinion as you.

If I was 17 now I'd be saving like mad for improvements.
I think I went through my whole life wanting to change something. I'm now nearly 70 and think I look the best I have and am happy with it.

But when I look back at photos I really looked quite nice. Slim figure.
But what I lacked was self esteem.
Maybe you can make a deal with her. She has a small amount of filler as long as she takes up some sport/ interest OTHER than online and gets good at it - increasing her confidence and giving more opportunities to socialise away from the internet.

LimeCheesecake · 05/05/2023 07:44

It only ever doesn’t look done when it’s refilling lost fullness, so for older woman. But the problem is so many have above their lip done too, so the whole area looks wrong, not just the actual lip.

I have met woman who I didn’t think had their lips done then found out later they had, so it’s not always obvious as some on here would say.
