Should I let my 17 year old get filler?

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on whether I should let my 17 year old get a small amount of lip filler? She has begged me for years so when she was 16 I said we would look into it. She is a straight A student who is extremely respectful. If I allow it I have more control over it rather then me saying no and she gets it done cheap and secretly. PLEASE HELP

I was speaking to a child psychologist recently and she said mental health problems in teens is through the roof because of the idea they have to look perfect, all due to social media. Needs bloody banning.

Whether you let her or not, no respectable injector will treat her at 17, there are many reasons for that.

No properly qualified professional clinician would treat a 17 year old. Aesthetic nurse told me that young women who do it will have baggy lips in the future, because it stretches the skin.

NurseCranesRolodex · 04/05/2023 17:40

Only if you want to tell her she isn't enough the way she is.
Do you get procedures and have a focus on looks, if you do then you've probably already given her that message. Do some make up tips with her, get proper plumping gloss and treats but lip injections at 17....NO.

Get her to look at fillers going wrong book her in for a really nice Mac up lesson session like at MAC so she can see how to apply make up well. Boost her self confidence in positive ways.

KiwiMum2023 · 04/05/2023 18:13

Oh come off it. What a ridiculous question. I call troll here. Seriously.

LBFseBrom · 04/05/2023 18:16

Absolutely not. Does she want to grow into a young woman who looks like a caricature of herself? I've seen plenty of those, all ages.

I'd say exactly the same about tattoos.

The thing is young people, especially girls, do think they would like this and that done to their bodies. I did, I remember wishing I had enough money! Thank goodness I didn't. It is usually outgrown. In a couple of years your daughter will have more confidence in herself and be glad she didn't go down the filler route.

TurquoiseDress · 04/05/2023 18:16

In a nutshell...NO

TurquoiseDress · 04/05/2023 18:17

Why does a 17 year old need fillers?
Or Botox for that matter

Random789 · 04/05/2023 18:24

Lip filler looks disgusting. In a 17-year-old it feels like an act of self-harm. I wish it could be banned.

literally just gone from this thread and there is an article here (sorry its DM) maybe show her this?
Meg Ryan, 61, looks unrecognisable on first public outing in six months | Daily Mail Online

Yes absolutely

I was reading that article a short time ago!

Those photos should be a cautionary tale for anyone of any age who is considering having stuff put in their face

Because it looks awful, disfiguring young women to look like trout.
It also never stops at just one little thing, see Carol Vorderman etc

And self confidence comes from within, not what we look like, ask Katie Piper.

Katie Piper called a baby ‘toxic’. She’s vile.

Do not ask her.

And no, lip fillers look absurd. I have 20 year old colleagues with them and they can’t speak properly as a result.

saveforthat · 04/05/2023 18:27

muminneedofadviceplz · 04/05/2023 14:20

No I have not had any lip filler?

Why does your daughter want it. What's wrong with her natural lips?

AlwaysGinPlease · 04/05/2023 18:30

Katie Piper did not call the baby toxic. She said the nursery and the theme was toxic.

quietnightmare · 04/05/2023 18:31

Yes absolutely allow her. Why wouldn't you?

Why don't you encourage to have a boob job too maybe a size double Z and a bit of lipo on her toes ?

Perhaps you could go to sunbed together as a bonding thing and do a minimum of 1 hour a day m. Really get that glow

Personally I think at 17 she should start having Botox even in her eyeballs and for her 18th you could get her a facelift?

DeflatedAgain · 04/05/2023 18:33

Absolutely not.

Unless for essential medical reasons

saveforthat · 04/05/2023 18:33

JaneAustenshandbag · 04/05/2023 17:29

I would absolutely not let my 17 year old have lip filler. When she’s 18 it’ll be up to her and I’d guide her towards someone reputable- a medical professional.

Incidentally though, while lip fillers can look unnatural and awful in the wrong hands, it is absolutely possible to have subtle and natural looking filler. Mine have a small amount of filler as I naturally have a thin top lip. The key is to go to someone reputable, not alter the natural shape of your mouth and know that a little goes a long way. You probably just don’t notice lip filler done well!

That does not look subtle.

nuttymut · 04/05/2023 18:35

No , she’s far too young and still growing . No respectable facial aesthetics provider will do it on a 17 yo . Even with an 18 /19 yo they will counsel the patient prior to doing it .
there was an article this week about some love islanders who are having their filler removed and some doctors are reporting too much filler can leave the lips wrinkly and baggy after removal of filler .

largeprintagathachristie · 04/05/2023 18:36

Tell her people who have it done think it’s subtle but they’re not seeing themselves in profile where they look like a duck.

RampantIvy · 04/05/2023 18:36

Sorry @JaneAustenshandbag. I agree with @saveforthat.
The filler looks very obvious to me. It does look well done, but not very natural.

Tulipblank · 04/05/2023 18:36

This is obviously the 17 yo DD posting, who had hoped for different responses and could show her mum!

Fwiw....I would also say no.

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 04/05/2023 18:39

The natural look is a thing now. Isn’t this trend looking dated now? It seems to have been around for far too long.

Flamingnorahs · 04/05/2023 18:40

Fuck no.

JaneJeffer · 04/05/2023 18:41

Forfrigz · 04/05/2023 17:05

The mind fucking reels at what we've done to that generation

We?

OrangeBlossomTime · 04/05/2023 18:42

Jeesus.

waterlego · 04/05/2023 18:45

Sad to see those pics of Meg Ryan. All those treatments in a desperate attempt to look younger. Not only does she not look younger (if anything she now looks older than her 61 years), but she also doesn’t look like Meg Ryan 😕
