5 weeks post section today and still very achy come 5/6pm, scar is still very swollen on one side and I have patches of numbness. Feel like I recovered quicker/better from my first emergency section but might just be remembering with rose tinted specs.
following someone called hannahjohnsontherapies on Instagram for section scar recovery tips, going to start massaging it soon. Really trying to avoid getting an overhang/shelf.

Hi everyone, I have a question for you. What do you do to get your little ones to nap during the day? My little boy is 8 weeks tomorrow and is generally quite good at sleeping, but some days (like today!) every nap feels like a battle. I know he’s still too young to have much of a routine at all but I try to look out for his sleepy cues and put him down then (dark room, white noise, etc.). A lot of the time it works a treat but sometimes there’s a whole lot of rocking and screaming involved, and then a lot of resettling, and I feel awful about it when it’s like that. I know the advice is to put them down awake but drowsy, but he never seems to be drowsy! 😅 Any advice? Am I just going about it all wrong?

muminlndn · 27/04/2023 19:27

@LRiddles sounds like you're doing great, first 12 weeks is a free-for-all. The drowsy but awake advice is most applicable for past 4 months I'd say. It should be safe to save some stress and do some naps however is easiest for you - I usually baby wear and then transfer her to the cot as this is the quickest/calmest way for us. As we approach 12 weeks I'll probably try to do at least 1 nap a day settling in the cot for practise, but she also gets practise settling in the cot at night so I wouldn't worry too much.

The reason for 4 months is because their sleep splits into light & deep sleep and so connecting sleep cycles during light sleep becomes a bit of a skill for them. Before 4 months, they're either awake or asleep, there's no in-between.

TeddyBeans · 27/04/2023 20:45

I have so many pictures of Izzy sleeping on the floor or her play gym or the pushchair or the carrier...everywhere except her cot 😂 I just let her sleep where she is, whenever she feels like it. Same as feeding - all on demand. DS did the same and slept like a champ from 12ish weeks all the way up to the 10 month sleep regression. She's in her play gym at the moment, having a good old discussion with the monkey. I'm sure it won't be long until she puts herself to sleep

Almost 8 weeks here too and she only goes down in her cot at night. We can follow same routine during the day but she will only stay settled for max 30 mins so tend to let her contact nap instead. She’s a fighter of sleep in the day which could be why she won’t settle anywhere but on me! Honestly just going with the flow atm!

Rainbowbaby23 · 27/04/2023 22:26

Theres a whatsapp group started incase any of you arent aware, the link is on the facebook page!:)

LRiddles · 27/04/2023 22:36

Thanks everyone, that makes me feel a bit better! We also do lots of naps in the sling which he loves but even then they sometimes involve a bit of protest - the problem is if I just left him to it he wouldn’t fall asleep I don’t think, he’d just get very overtired and fight it, I’ve learned from experience 😅 anyway, I’ll try to be a bit more relaxed about the whole thing and go with the flow a bit more.

@Rainbowbaby23 please could you post a link to the Facebook page?

Rainbowbaby23 · 27/04/2023 22:51

There was one posted earlier today! I dont want to post it here just incase some random person joins😂😂

TeddyBeans · 27/04/2023 23:33

@LRiddles have pm'd you a link 😊

I'm glad I'm not the only one struggling with the naps, Sybil won't nap in her cot even when I've made the room dark and relaxing for her. She also won't sleep in her moses anymore, only in the evening when she's ready for bed. But she does completely pass out when she's contact napping. She fights sleep and gets overtired!

Suchardchoccy · 28/04/2023 00:14

@TeddyBeans @Rainbowbaby23 please can I join the WhatsApp group? Trouble is I don't have facebook!

Rainbowbaby23 · 28/04/2023 00:27

@Suchardchoccy is there a way to private message on this and i could send you the link?

Coffeeandbourbons · 28/04/2023 00:43

Bit late to the party but can I join you? My little boy is 5 weeks old 💙 he’s my second baby, I also have a girl who is nearly 4. I’m breastfeeding which is going well but omg I’m tired! I mix fed last time which was a bit easier as DH took her for half the night, but this time it wouldn’t work as he has an enormous appetite and I ‘refill’ very quickly. I can’t go for more than 4 hours without feeding as I end up in pain and soaking through my pyjamas 😣 just trying to grit my teeth until the feeds space out a bit and my boobs settle down.

Are you all booked in for baby jabs? I’m dreading it! I got the letter through today, it says the doctor will also talk to me about contraception. I’m considering ttc a third and final baby at around Christmas time, so not sure what to go for, if anything (zero action here at the moment lol).

Coffeeandbourbons · 28/04/2023 01:00

And yes to the small clothes, he was in 0-1month for about 2 weeks, now he’s in 0-3 but it’s already a little tight with his feet right at the end. My last baby was quite small and didn’t even fit newborn until she was about 3 weeks old so he feels like a toddler!

BabyTalbot1 · 28/04/2023 03:12

Just picked up my DD from the moses basket for a feed and for the 2nd time this week, I have found that she has moved and pushed her face up against the side. She is 4 weeks old. How safe is this? I am thinking of moving her into a cot.

Rainbowbaby23 · 28/04/2023 00:27

@Suchardchoccy is there a way to private message on this and i could send you the link?

On mobile internet there's 3 dots at the bottom of each comment which brings up a drop down menu that has a pm button as an option. If you're using the app - I have no idea 😂

@Coffeeandbourbons welcome 😊 congratulations on your little boy. I'd go for the pill as a short term contraceptive. I've booked to have an implant as DP and I are pretty certain we're done with two. Have had 3 before and find them very convenient. DD is going for her jabs on 3rd may, really not looking forward to it but it's a necessary evil

There's a FB group if you want to join? I can pm you the link. And a WhatsApp group has been set up if that's more your cup of tea but I'll have to get @Rainbowbaby23 to sort you out with that one. I find WhatsApp groups very overwhelming with the constant notifications 😂

TeddyBeans · 28/04/2023 05:21

@BabyTalbot1 I'd move her into the cot tbh. You can never be too careful

Thank you @TeddyBeans

sent you a PM @Suchardchoccy

Marfs10 · 28/04/2023 06:06

@LRiddles was just reading that you get some protest even whilst in the carrier. I’ve had the same recently and have found that if I put DS in the carrier, even if he’s grizzling about, if I start hoovering, he will be asleep before I can even finish the first room.
I’m guessing it’s the combination of motion and sound but it’s definitely worth a try, it feels a bit like a superpower 😂

Suchardchoccy · 28/04/2023 14:13

@Rainbowbaby23 thank you! Yes the app is a bit rubbish @TeddyBeans !

RoamSeeker · 29/04/2023 07:11

can I get link to Facebook group please. I haven’t post much on here but have been following, my baby girl is 5 weeks old.

Marfs10 · 29/04/2023 17:50

Hi all,

I’m desperately trying to not let it bother me, but I assumed that I would have started losing my pregnancy weight by now. I lost 2/3rds straight after delivery but 7 weeks postpartum and the remainder doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, and if anything, I have gained a little! I eat pretty healthily, I walk everyday, and I’m breastfeeding. Would be nice to see that the scales were at least going in the right direction. Any tips beyond the obvious of eating less and moving more?

Like I said, I don’t want it to bother me but I just don’t really feel like myself and can’t wait for my pre-pregnancy clothes to fit again!

TeddyBeans · 29/04/2023 20:03

@Marfs10 I gained about 10kg after my first pregnancy and I'm about 7kg up this time round. There's not really a quick fix to losing the rest of the weight unfortunately, if there was I'd be all over it 😂

OP posts:
Marfs10 · 29/04/2023 20:54

😩 thanks @TeddyBeans

i think deep down I probably know it, but it’s hard to accept. And newborns make it all the more difficult to do anything about it!
perhaps when I become accustomed to the sleep deprivation, I’ll be able to resist the biscuit tin better 😂 I’m sure that will help!
