When did your baby walk?

DS turned one end of December. He just started pulling to stand and does it all the time

i stand him up but he won’t stand independelty

im worried as I feel he’s so far off walking how can I help him?

is this abnormal is something wrong?

My friend is a health visitor and said as he was a bit chunky (24lb at 10 months lol - but taller than 99% of babies that age haha) it can take longer for him to get leg strength and it seems so because he barely straightened his legs until 7-8 months

is this normal I’m worried he’s not close to walking

Mine were both 10 months but Dd could walk but not crawl from then until 15 months.

I think all but one of my nieces and nephews were 14-16 months.

Don't worry

BelleSauvage9 · 16/01/2023 22:15

Dd1 didn't walk until 18 months.
Dd2 is 11 months and has just started pulling herself up. She occasionally walks a little while holding hands, but still very unsteady on her feet so I think it'll be a while yet

Sweetnsourtoday · 16/01/2023 22:22

Two at 9 months and DS was 10 months who preferred to army crawl. All were considered late to talk. They all rolled but never hands and knees crawled or bum shuffled.
I had cousins that were about 15mths.
They develop at their own pace.

My dc is 14 months and still can't even put weight on her legs. She's had physio and we're continuing that at home but she just loves sitting and pointing at what she wants for us to get! She's hasn't crawled either! I know she will eventually but I honestly worry about it everyday! I feel she's missing out on so much!

NeverHadANickname · 16/01/2023 23:19

I work with kids so I'm not going to give an age because I have seen so much variety. I will say though, it sounds like your DS is doing great. You say you are worried he isn't close to walking but some go from nothing to walking in a day. My own DS liked to stand up on his own and just stand there but wasn't interested on moving much, then he randomly walked 5 steps out of nowhere.

Ruffpuff · 16/01/2023 23:22

9 months and it was a bloody nightmare

FfeminyddCymraeg · 16/01/2023 23:24

10 months and 9 months. It felt like they were babies for no time at all 😟

CoodleMoodle · 16/01/2023 23:33

DD walked holding both hands at 11mo (that was a back breaking month), holding one hand at 12mo and independently at 13mo. She didn't crawl or bum shuffle, ever. If she sat down on the floor, she was stuck. She only got the hang of crawling when she was about 2!

DS crawled from about 9mo, and walked independently at about 12mo. He wanted to go where his sister was going so he had to learn...

OzziePopPop · 16/01/2023 23:42

DD was 17 month When she first walked, she crawled at just gone 12 months. She’s now 16 and looking at sixth forms with very high gcse predictions

DS was a lot earlier, 9 months and he was cruising, 10 months fully walking. He’s now 12 and, again, perfectly healthy.

I admit I was seriously worried about DD but she was a very placid baby who watched, learned, then did it perfectly right off. No rocking we went right from nothing to power crawling everywhere. Then from crawling to walking without cruising. She just got up and did!

NishaaS123 · 16/01/2023 23:48

My baby started walking at 18 months! I was quite worried too. But he’s all fine and normal 😊

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 17/01/2023 00:29

My DD was walking well at 8mths and had some right speed by 9mths!
I remember complaining a lot as she was walking round unpacking all our house move boxes and lifting pretty heavy things.

My DS is 11mths and there's no sign of him walking yet. He can stand while hanging onto things but has no interest in walking or even shuffling along. It's strange that at his age my DD was climbing stairs and running, yet DS can only crawl.

Changechangychange · 17/01/2023 00:35

DS was 15 months to the day, but by the time he was 2.5 years old, nursery thought he was “advanced” in terms of motor skills (running, climbing, kicking a ball etc). He is now a very sporty six year old, so it doesn’t have any bearing whatsoever on future abilities.

Linnet · 17/01/2023 00:37

Both of mine were cruising round the furniture from 8 months.

Dd1 walked unaided at 13 months and Dd2 walked unaided at 11 months

Thinking about it, DS was like that - first step at 15 months, then could basically walk across the room completely unaided.

In retrospect maybe he was walking in nursery earlier and they just never told us!

smileladiesplease · 17/01/2023 00:40

Oh bless you he's fine. Ds1 kicking a ball around at 12 months. Ds2 14 months dds3/4 twins 18 months and 20 months :) do not compare they walk when they good and ready

Boys crawled my girls bottom shuffled never crawled

CoalCraft · 17/01/2023 06:33

DD walked at 15 months, adjusted to 13 to account for prematurity. She went from not being able to stand unaided to toddling around on her own on the space of about two weeks.

subtoprem · 17/01/2023 06:48

One at 12 months and one at 14 months.

babyyodaxmas · 17/01/2023 06:50

Ds 11m, Dd 13m.

BigButtons · 17/01/2023 06:52

With all 6 of mine it was between 9-11 months. The average was 10 months.

yikesanotherbooboo · 17/01/2023 07:37

17 months
12 months
17 months
All quite normal.

lifehappens12 · 17/01/2023 10:21

First baby - complexity unsupported by 14 months and was crawling from 7 months.

Second baby - crawled at 10 months and walked independently at 19 months. But before that for a long time he could push a walker so I wasn't concerned.

BabyMomma2021 · 17/01/2023 10:23

10 months - it's also happened very quickly from not being able to walk to walking. Don't worry, still plenty of time and it will likely happen quickly when it happens.

I'm just interested in how you manage/d 6!
🙀👏

ha ha! I didn't have them all at once- had them in 8 years. Tbh there is no difference between crawling and walking- once they are moving they are moving. Mine were so frustrated to get moving that it was a relief because then they stopped griping. My youngest broke his arm at 9 months and started walking with a plaster cast on about a week later. He was all lopsided with the weight of it.

Defaultsettings · 17/01/2023 14:37

One at 9 months, one at 17 months.
