When did your baby walk?

DS turned one end of December. He just started pulling to stand and does it all the time

i stand him up but he won’t stand independelty

im worried as I feel he’s so far off walking how can I help him?

is this abnormal is something wrong?

My friend is a health visitor and said as he was a bit chunky (24lb at 10 months lol - but taller than 99% of babies that age haha) it can take longer for him to get leg strength and it seems so because he barely straightened his legs until 7-8 months

is this normal I’m worried he’s not close to walking

OP posts:

15 months. Very physically able now at 4.5

stormelf · 16/01/2023 20:27

Oldest child walked at 16months, middle child was walking at 9months, youngest turned 1 in December and cruises along holding things. She stands independently for short periods of time and walks around on her knees. They are all so different

My 22 year old wanted at 9 months and he's a builder ❤️

My 20 year old walked at 16 Months and is an accountant

As long as he's trying...it's probably not important yet x

One at 11 months, one at 17 months. Both fine and normal age 2 and 3 now.

BettyOBarley · 16/01/2023 20:29

DD was 11 months

DS was 15 months.
He was 9lb 2 at birth and put on loads of weight after birth, with those little chubby arms rolls etc - I always just figured his legs needed to be stronger as your friend said!
Once he was walking he was fine and no different to any other child.

BigYellowElephant · 16/01/2023 20:29

Dd1 - 12m

Dd2 - 13m

Dd3 - 10m

Makes no difference in the long run! Don't recommend the 10 month walking at all, nightmare

gfy · 16/01/2023 20:30

Mines still not walking at 2 years old

Been to physiotherapy and they've discharged him saying he will walk in his own time I guess every baby is different

Colourinsidethelines · 16/01/2023 20:30

DS1 was 17 months, DS2 16 months. Does he crawl? DS1 was a bum shuffler rather than a crawler and that makes them walk later apparently. But DS2 was a crawler and he wasn’t much quicker! I wouldn’t worry yet, just keep encouraging the standing.

AdventFridgeOfShame · 16/01/2023 20:34

Somewhere between 9 and 18 months, they are fickle wee bastards, designed to stretch their parents to the limit.

Matleavemummy · 16/01/2023 20:36

@Masterchefzs your child isn’t even 13 months yet! 17 months for mine. Frustrating as he was desperate but entirely normal

Saturn88 · 16/01/2023 20:37

DS was 16 months and a day I always remember!

I was worried because friends children had walked quicker, it's annoying when you have someone to compare to. It's also annoying if said person looks satisfied their's did it first - this is life unfortunately!

But OP whatever you do isn't worry, just as your child learnt to sit up, your child will learn to walk. The window is just a bit bigger x

justcouldntthinkofausername · 16/01/2023 20:43

DS 16 months

SherryAndFight · 16/01/2023 20:44

Pulled to stand about 8 months, crawled (in a very bizarre way) at 11 months. Never cruised or stood independently, just literally stood up and walked one day at 15 months.

NothingOriginal8 · 16/01/2023 20:50

DS was 16 months before he took an independent step. He's 18 months now and never stops!
I know everyone says it but please don't worry, they really do just do it in their own time.

YouBoggleMyMind · 16/01/2023 20:54

First steps at 16 months. Didn't crawl until he was 1. Nothing to worry about. Even at 18 months, they won't be overly concerned until age 2.

user159 · 16/01/2023 20:56

15 months. I worried about it a lot as we were in covid lockdown by then but she's nearly 4 now and you'd never know who walked first or last out of her friends and nursery groups. I was told 18months was the point to seek advice.

Butwhytho · 16/01/2023 20:59

13 months but it was another month or so before he really got his confidence up to do little marches about.
They are all different. Try not to stress too much.

YesNoYesNoYesNoYesMaybe · 16/01/2023 21:04

First pulled herself to stand on her first birthday. Took a good few months to coast around the room.

didn’t properly walk solo til 17 ish months.

was a bum shuffler though, so spent more time moving that way

Passanotherjaffacake · 16/01/2023 21:05

17 months here, just before the health visitor call! Did all her gross motor later on and I was quite concerned. Dd was physically very cautious though and still is wary.

She could have done it before if she had wanted too - she would crawl, stand up in the middle of the floor and then crawl to the sofa for a cruise along - totally insane!

she took her first proper steps on a Thursday night and was running by the Sunday. Lol.

DS is also late with gross motor. Sigh!

Remaker · 16/01/2023 21:11

I remember my DD was the last to walk at mother and baby group and I was a bit worried. She walked at 14 mths. Now a very tall, active, coordinated teenager.

DS was like your child - very solid and super tall. He also had a massive head! He went from crawling to walking around the house on his knees - hilarious! He also walked (on his feet) at 14 mths. Now almost 6 foot very skinny, very sporty 15yo.

bakewellbride · 16/01/2023 21:14

Ds didn't walk until 18 months and is 4 and a half now. Runs into school happy each day and has a gymnastics medal.

My friend didn't walk until 2 and is honestly doing great now, great career, popular, successful.

You're worrying over nothing.

Anonymouslyposting · 16/01/2023 21:18

DD walked at 10.5 months. However, my best friend’s baby didn’t start walking until 18 months. Both are now over two and you wouldn’t have any idea which started walking first.

Quail15 · 16/01/2023 21:20

DD - 9 months
Ds - 12 months (walked on his birthday)

Nephew - 17 months
My sister was well over 2 years old -. I remember her having all sorts of tests to see why she wasn't walking - turns out she was just lazy.

Nanalisa60 · 16/01/2023 21:21

Pulled himself up at seven mouths and walked round the furniture, eight months to the day walk across the room . But I don’t think it makes any difference they all walk when they are ready.

Millionaireshortbread0 · 16/01/2023 21:25

14 months, 13 months and 11 months.
