Does anyone call a penis a cock?

I'm wondering because I've agonized over dd and what to call her bits, but haven't given nearly enough thought to dS.

And I'm thinking that I've always liked the word 'cock'. It's .. well, it's cocky. Proud. A bit jokey. But not aggressive at all - at least I don't think so.

Anyone?

When I was growing up I remember my step-brother was upstairs going to the toilet and he dropped the toilet seat, mum and I heard him shout 'Arghhhhhhhh, my cock' it was funny, but sounded so wrong.
It would be like a girl calling her vagina a pussy or her cunt, horrible.

policywonk · 02/02/2008 15:28

(has your computer been resuscitated then?)

bunnyhunny · 02/02/2008 15:38

I wouldnt call it 'cock' for a child.

As I teach, I cant help but think of it in a school setting. can you imagine the teachers at school when he eventually says I got hit in the cock . Personally I would go for willy, and kids at school also say nuts and balls, and they aren't offensive.

Mind you, my brother used to refer to his as his cock. He used to have guitar lessons near the 'fighting cocks' pub. the images that were in my mind! I never understood why there was a picture of a cockerel on the board outside.

onebatmother · 02/02/2008 22:31

You see! bunnyhunny's brother called it a cock!

Pol you have mail!

Piffle · 02/02/2008 22:38

result is that dd aged 5 is gutted she has no knob end
I always reassure her
She has the best deal trust me, girly bits beat knob ends every time
Girls are best!

Ineedacleaner · 02/02/2008 22:49

I have tears sreaming down my eyes laughing at this thread is the funniest one ever.

LMAO at OBM secretle impressed at the christian name and surname of Nancy Pretty

God I must tell DH about this.

onebatmother · 02/02/2008 22:51

you see that's exactly what I meant! knob end - that's the kind of jokey but a little bit vulgar tone that I was aiming for.

OP posts:
Threadworm · 02/02/2008 22:53

Really, cock should hit just that tone. To name a penis after a strutting, harmless, slightly comical male bird. It should be just right. But it isn't.

Piffle · 02/02/2008 22:54

one of our fave terms of reference to 14 yr old ds1 is
you are being a bit knobular about that kiddo
Works every time

hunkermunker · 02/02/2008 22:57

It's chesney, surely?

And for a girl, glitterysnatch, no?

(Actually, for anyone going down the anatomical names route, it's vulva, not vagina)

onebatmother · 02/02/2008 22:58

yes threadie, I know you're right really.

Piffle family life sounds lovely.

OP posts:
Threadworm · 02/02/2008 23:00

Don't be sad. If you really want to use cock, then go with it. Just send a note into school to explain.

Piffle · 02/02/2008 23:00

hunker has anyone typed vulva on here this week more than you
family life is great here yes indeedy, we embrace freedom of terminolgy, we are very open indeed

policywonk · 02/02/2008 23:03

LOL - how would that note go threadie?

'Batchild is being coached in obscenities. Please do not be alarmed.'

Piffle · 02/02/2008 23:05

Worse things can happen
Cue ds1 going into school and saying the the teacher
I used to think Voldermort was not real but I know you are his real mother
Gosh!

hunkermunker · 02/02/2008 23:08

Piff, I'm up to twice now, I think

FenellaFudge · 02/02/2008 23:08

I know a lot of parents call their daughters bits (yes, bits, what of it??)their fanny - but to me 'fanny' was a terrible swear word when I was growing up.
Having said that, Onebat...you are a loon!

oliviaelanasmum · 02/02/2008 23:14

We have a mary and dp has a willy, although when dd1 knocked it up on her crossbar it was her fanjoshe shouted about apparently i blame mumsnet!

Dalrymps · 02/02/2008 23:24

onebatmother · 02/02/2008 23:30

Am NOT a loon! Am v responsible mother with weird seventies background.

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 02/02/2008 23:41

Tinker · 02/02/2008 23:52

Tinker is definitely a no go

onebatmother · 02/02/2008 23:54

sorry Dalrymps! I think Tinker is lovely (rogueish, made me smile) but it's quite.. individual, was thinking of something a little more common iyswim.
Ah me.
