@Sleeplesschristmas That sounds awful, even worse than my night. How old is your LO? I hope you got some sleep after that.

I had one of the worst nights ever with my almost 4 month old. I completely lost track of the number of wakeups we had but the longest stretch of sleep we had was 55 minutes. The rest of the night was made up of 20-40 min sleeps. When he wakes the only thing that will settle him back down is a feed for 10-15 mins. Resorted to co-sleeping around 2am although I hate doing it.

Sleeplesschristmas · 10/02/2022 13:52

@shivawn I know its only a couple of days ago but I already can't remember! We've had about 2 and a half hours in total each nght for a couple of nights which I'm pleased about, even though I know it sounds naff. My little one is 11 weeks.
His older sister had her first night in her bed out of her cot last night, she didn't move a muscle out of her bed and slept for 12 and a half hours. So I know he willl settle, eventually

I understand the need for co sleep, I've not done it yet but been far more sleep deprieved as a result. Its so tough. Especially as my LO was doing 2 hour stretches a couple of weeks ago, so I know he can do it!

thingymaboob · 10/02/2022 15:22

Last night my 2 week old was absolutely frantic. Cluster feeding, won't go down in cot. 11pm - 5am. I eventually co-slept which I vowed never to do (I'm a paramedic) but followed the safe sleep advice.
I then slept 5:30-7:15, then had another nap 8:15-9:45. She's been asleep beautifully in her cot for an hour. Can I sleep?! No!

@shivawn we had that at 5.5 months for a couple of weeks, his sleep has gotten better since. You're in the thick of it.. hang in there!!

notpsychic · 14/02/2022 11:36

Just a little update. For the past three nights things have been better. We decided that dad would put bubs down and attend to anything until 11pm. She has since been able to join some sleep
Cycles and even did 2.5 hours yday. Once I’m in the room she’s more unsettled (I think she can smell milk) but it’s a huge improvement. Hope it continues x

Sleeplesschristmas · 15/02/2022 02:35

@notpsychic oh that's great to hear, fingers crossed your on the road to settled sleep pattern 😊 my DH decided to send me to bed early, and bring baby up late... But it means I haven't fed him in 6 hours! Boobs are about to explode!

StickyStickyStickStickSong · 03/03/2022 07:07

Haven't been here for a while. We'd gotten into a routine... then it all recently went to shit 🤣
Now his sleep is at its worst and he's 11 and half months.

This child just does not want nor need sleep....

...Me on the other hand 🧟‍♀️😵

pinkgin1 · 06/03/2022 14:48

@StickyStickyStickStickSong

We all vanished!
Exactly the same here. Was going great. Has now gone to 🤭🤭🤭🤭! Again!

Hoping by the lack of comments everyone is doing better? I'm happy to say since my last comment my son has been sleeping through and has been amazing. He's 8 months now , is crawling everywhere and I believe that had a big help as he really tires himself out! He's pulling to standing and kneeling up, his teeth are through at the bottom and the top. We've had lots going on.
He doesn't have a bottle through the night anymore. Earliest he has one is about 5:45am then usually sleeps again.
Hoping it lasts. But I know it could all change anytime! When he's sick he is up constantly but I guess that doesn't count as there's a reason for it.
He's been up since 7 today and is going to sleep now for a nap, how's everyone getting on??

StickyStickyStickStickSong · 21/03/2022 07:41

Hi 👋🏻 @pinkgin1
My DS was 1 on Wednesday and I've just accepted the fact he's not a good sleeper by now!
He will go down 4hrs after his afternoon nap so could be a 7:30,8,9pm bedtime depending.
He goes in his cot and will still do 3 solid hours then he's up and unsettled til I put him in with me.
I could keep going in and settling him every hour but quite frankly I just can't as I need sleep to function for work! So this is his routine.
Once he's in with me he will sleep til 6am. This is just our routine now

notpsychic · 21/03/2022 07:50

@pinkgin1 what a lovely story of hope. My 6mo now wakes every two hours instead of every 45 mins.
She also comes in to bed with me at 1am when I get fed up of going in to resettle her.

Sneezymcsneezy · 25/03/2022 11:51

@pinkgin1 hello!! We are the same stage as @StickyStickyStickStickSong and @notpsychic, just accepted he will get there in his own time Smile

FlawedStars · 26/03/2022 19:25

Is anyone else here still struggling? I'm freaking out about the clocks changing. DD has been up at 5.30 every day this week but sleeping 2.5hrs every morning. Today I was so tired and rushing I have scraped all down the side of my car on a friend's driveway post. I crashed my previous car back in October. Both I blame on a lack of concentration due to fatigue. I am exhausted miserable and an accident waiting to happen. I can't financially afford any more sleep deprivation. At 10m I'm still naive and wonder if tonight's the night she may learn to sleep

ijustcouldntthinkofausername · 21/05/2022 08:02

Hi all how we getting on.
Ps-I used to be Stickysticksticksong

DS is 14 months now. Still NEVER sleeps through so I've accepted this is just him now. Still does 3-4hrs in his cot before coming in with me. Still wakes often even with me - sometimes he will just cry even though he still seems asleep, sometimes he will sit upright and writhe around making crying noises but still appear asleep.
It's weird and I've wondered if he is like sleep walking of some sort?

Last night though he woke at 11:30 and came in with me, then from 12-almost 2 he was wide awake and kept standing up, wants to stand up the headboard and bang on the wall (Nextdoors walll)
I'm shattered.

LCF2021 · 21/05/2022 10:34

Ahhh hello all!

DD is coming up to 10 months now. Had slept through a handful of times and sadly there doesn’t seem to be a pattern to it. She’s generally up between 1-4 times a night but I’ll only feed her once. The other times I either have to fully get her back to sleep by cuddling her or she has to be left to cry for a bit.
We’ve hit peak separation anxiety too as well as intense parental preference meaning my husband absolutely cannot put her down for a nap, at bedtime or settle in the night which is so draining.
Her naps are pretty good though. Usually 1.5 hours in the morning and 1-1.5 hours in the afternoon although I probably need to cut that down a bit soon.

Hope everyone is getting a bit more rest.

thingymaboob · 21/05/2022 10:41

Hiya,
Tentatively joining as have a 4 month old in regression!
Also trying to wean swaddle. Arms are like windmills!
I can normally get a block of 3-4 hours between 9-1 then it's all bets off. My day normally starts between 3-4am as she wakes every hour to 30 mins after this point. She has pink noise, swaddle, doesn't take a dummy and is bf. Co sleeping makes no difference to her sleep, it just makes mine worse! Send coffee!

Sneezymcsneezy · 21/05/2022 21:49

@LCF2021 @ijustcouldntthinkofausername hello!! Ours is 11 months and we bit the bullet and used Ferber two weeks ago... Sleeps from 9-7am now with a couple of 2 min moans at most during the night. Honestly life changing now are going back to work!!

LCF2021 · 22/05/2022 07:11

@Sneezymcsneezy We tried controlled crying. Did it for about 2 weeks but after each time I go into her she gets more upset but equally staying in the room makes her upset too as she wants me to cuddle her.
I think I might try again once her next lot of teeth are through, she’s got 3 coming at the moment and I’m expecting them any day.

ijustcouldntthinkofausername · 22/05/2022 07:48

@Sneezymcsneezy are you putting her down in cot awake after last bottle or are you getting her to sleep before putting her down?
I find I have to get him to sleep first, if I put him in cot still awake he fights his sleep and will just stand up walking (and falling) round cot and the crying just escalates!

Sneezymcsneezy · 22/05/2022 09:16

@ijustcouldntthinkofausername no I still feed him to sleep, I'm not going to fight that and still enjoy it. Naps are hit and miss, so I feed him or sometimes I'm able to just hold him upright to sleep then put him down but I enjoy those too and he is able to sleep being held by u dad or in the pram so I'm not gonna put us all through this sleepy but awake thing...

Sneezymcsneezy · 22/05/2022 09:20

@LCF2021 yeah it sounds like you gotta do extinction or just leave it! Our boy didn't really get properly into this for a few days, it was because of the longer check in times he was getting the message, so I think it was the fifth day where we didn't go in until almost 20 minutes a couple of times then he slept but since then.. it didn't work on day 2 like how you hear from people...

LCF2021 · 22/05/2022 12:08

@Sneezymcsneezy I know and that terrifies me. DH thinks we should do CIO but I just can’t do it even if it results in her sleeping through. My heart rate and anxiety go through the roof even when I leave her to cry for 5-10 mins to give her a chance to settle and she is also incredibly strong-willed too and would likely be up for hours in the night.
I’m going to try CC again in a couple of weeks and see how she goes. The middle of the night is the hardest, my resolve is non-existent at 3am.

ijustcouldntthinkofausername · 22/05/2022 12:56

@Sneezymcsneezy sorry just realised I referred to your Lo as she

He has been down to 1 nap a day now since 12 months. This child just doesn't seem to 'need' sleep.

So when you do Ferber. You put him down asleep then when the crying starts is that when you keep nipping in to reassure then gradually leave it long til you next nip in etc?

Sneezymcsneezy · 22/05/2022 16:14

@LCF2021 I completely get it, I really do. My husband was actually the one who faltered but it was him who actually said he can't deal with the broken sleep anymore so I had to be the one doing it in the end. How old is your baby girl? We felt he was old enough to learn so we just went for it, I just want to point out that he doesn't sleep through without waking up and moaning, but he can moan himself back to sleep in less than 5 minutes so we just leave him to sort himself out. One of my friends did this, just leave her baby for 5 minutes every time she woke but then went in to settle her. It took her a month to sort her baby out though. It's heartbreaking when you go in and they just reach out to cling on to you. So @ijustcouldntthinkofausername we didn't ever pick him up, I just walked in, stroked his head and told him it's time to sleep and walked straight back out. Sometimes I might stay for 30 seconds but I find it makes things worse so for us shorter was better. And yes we did exactly as you said. Our boy used to do one nap for a while between 9.5 months till now but he's back on to 2 naps because he wakes up earlier without boob back to sleep. I do sometimes go in and boob him only because i worry he's hungry and he needs it in order to sleep again as his sleep pressure is low at this point. I don't need to go in anymore now unless it's past 6am then I will.

LCF2021 · 22/05/2022 18:18

@Sneezymcsneezy She’ll be 10 months next week and now when she wakes she immediately stands up in her cot 🤦‍♀️ Over the last few nights she’s had wake ups where she’s just been moaning so I’ve left her. Sometimes she’ll find a dummy (if she hasn’t thrown them all out of her cot) and put it back in but often she’ll wake 20 mins later so now I’m thinking we might need to ditch the dummy if it actually isn’t doing anything in the night for her. She does need it to settle initially though.

One positive though is that I’m pretty strict about only feeding her once in the night. I know she doesn’t even need that as she has 3 good meals a day and 4 breastfeeds.
