Too old for a Teddy?!

Do your 7 year olds still have teddies? I got my son a teddy and my mum said he’s “a bit old” he’s 7 and he’s “a boy” Hmm

I told her that I got him a new teddy and he hasn’t put it down since I bought it and has taken it everywhere with him, that’s when she said it and “he’s almost 8!” As if that makes it so much more shocking

Nonsense.

DS7 has many teddies, however one dog Teddie is his absolute favourite, he still comes on adventures with us.

I have no problem with this, he's a child, it's what they do.

Whathefisgoingon · 20/11/2021 22:22

Um, I’m 32 with a 22 month old and I still sleep with my childhood “teddy.”

DH is 42 and has 5 teddies.... all with names and personalities.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/11/2021 22:24

FGS. Ignore the silly woman. Our 18 year old has just taken his cot bear off to his university accommodation,

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 20/11/2021 22:25

Ridiculous, my 11 yo boy cuddles 3 large teddies every night. He'd have the whole collection on the bed if we didn't think it was triggering allergies! And the whole gender thing just pisses me off. We have only boys so have never seen things as a girl/boy thing, despite outside influences.

JassyRadlett · 20/11/2021 22:26

My 10yo boy takes his three favourite soft toys to bed still.

Let kids be kids.

changingchanges2 · 20/11/2021 22:28

I'm 34 and I still sleep with my teddy!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 20/11/2021 22:30

I’m 39 and ds2 is 15, we both went to build a bear this summer and made new teddies! (It’s one of those traditions that stuck Grin) Ds1 took his teddy to uni with him, and recently bought his gf a teddy for Christmas. I hate this idea that kids reach some arbitrary age and are suddenly too old for things, or that boys shouldn’t need comforting items.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 20/11/2021 22:31

What should he have on his bed? Machine guns?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 20/11/2021 22:31

Certainly not, how sad that she thinks that way and I hope she doesn't communicate it to ds.

My 14yo still has his 13yo teddy next to the bed.

headintheproverbial · 20/11/2021 22:34

Kids love cuddlies IME. My 8 year old son still loves them as a stocking filler or whatever. He doesn't play with them as such but likes taking one or two to bed at night.

Ignore your mum.

Robin233 · 20/11/2021 22:39

You need your cuddlies

My son had many and over the years as he grew he let some go along with old toys. etc.
but at some point his cuddly collection start to increase again.
(He was buying his own). He's 26 now and semi left home for Uni.
On a side note he's buying his girlfriend a cuddly for Christmas.
This is his box of cuddlies

I'm 32 and I've asked for a Jellycat bear for Xmas :D

Angel2702 · 20/11/2021 22:42

My 15yr old would still have teddies if it didn’t damage his street cred, he still keeps them in his room discreetly.

TurnUpTurnip · 20/11/2021 22:46

@Shehasadiamondinthesky

What should he have on his bed? Machine guns?
This made me laugh, I expect she would probably prefer he was playing with consoles than teddies but he just isn’t interested in anything like that

My ds went of to uni in September with his teddy! He even bought a new one to keep it company. Never too old for a teddy

crankysaurus · 20/11/2021 22:58

Never to old!

crankysaurus · 20/11/2021 22:59

I've just got my teen a little one as a stocking filler

GiveItTillMarch · 20/11/2021 23:03

Ds2 is 15, he has around 20 soft toys of all descriptions in his bed. Why is this something he has to get rid of? He has collected them over the years. He still has his bedtime bear in his bed, just no longer sleeps with him tucked under his arm.

Ds1 took a soft toy with him to uni, it sits above his bed as a reminder of home and comfort.

Dddccc · 20/11/2021 23:11

Ds 9 has 4 soft toys on his xmas list and have tons and loves them all I personally have loads too you are never to old

Carpetsareforflying · 20/11/2021 23:20

I'm mid 30s and still love a teddy

catsareme14 · 20/11/2021 23:22

I'm 60, I sleep with various cuddlies . You are never too old to need a 'comfort ' cuddly

Jouleigh · 20/11/2021 23:23

Mines had teddies her loved, then teddies he didn't talk about as he got older.
I know for a fact that he still has two childhood teddies in his room, hidden in the cupboard.
DS is now 20 GrinI'll never tell anyone but you lot Wink
