Too old for a Teddy?!

Do your 7 year olds still have teddies? I got my son a teddy and my mum said he’s “a bit old” he’s 7 and he’s “a boy” Hmm

I'm 34 and still have my teddy. Your mum can get stuffed.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/11/2021 21:53

Ds took his teddy on his Y6 residential and so did lots of his mates.

jackiebenimble · 20/11/2021 21:54

My son is 11 and loves them and still chose a new one this summer which surprised me a little but im happy to go with it as long as he wants. Hes totally confident and outgoing and plays football and is independent but loves the comfort at night.

I have one and I'm 43.

Oh no! Not at 7! Not too old at any age! I still have a Teddy and I’m in my 30s! (Although admittedly she makes a great extra pillow!) My 11yo ds still sleeps with a mound of teddies as do all his friends. They quite happily take them to sleepovers and school residentials without embarrassment.

AnnaSW1 · 20/11/2021 21:57

Your mum is very silly

TurnUpTurnip · 20/11/2021 21:57

I didn’t get her comment at all, my daughter is 10 and still has Barbie dolls and she’s even bought her some but I guess that’s ok because she’s a girl Confused but boys can’t have teddies!?

OP posts:

When my boys went on cub camp (so around 8/9) it was suggested that they all took a teddy who would be tucked into the bottom of their sleeping bag.
Cue much relief from every boy who was worried about sleeping away from home and without a teddy.

Poppiesway1 · 20/11/2021 22:01

Oh my goodness.. is there an age limit in teddies? Hmm I’m late 40’s.. my Teddy was a Christening present.. he looks well loved and has many war wounds but still sits on my bed. Ds recently noticed my cabbage patch doll (circ 1984) I still have in the wardrobe Grin he is traumatised by finding “that creepy doll” Shock but she’s not going anywhere..

Your never too old for a teddy

DeadButDelicious · 20/11/2021 22:01

Pfft! I'm nearly 40 and I have a teddy, well, technically he's a bat robot. Never too old in my eyes! I still sleep with him sometimes when DH is on nights.

Ignore your mum. Let him have as many teddies as he wants!

Poppiesway1 · 20/11/2021 22:02

Sorry Posted before I mentioned ds1 (24) who still has his old teddy on his bedroom shelf. He’s not going anywhere either..

Longdistance · 20/11/2021 22:04

You can never be too old for a teddy bear 🧸

Puffinhead · 20/11/2021 22:07

You are never too old for teddies!. I’m approaching 50 and I still sleep with them (I have 2). I’ve told my kids I want to be cremated with them too - till death do us part!

SunShinesBrightly · 20/11/2021 22:07

OP, I teach 11-16 year olds and some of the Year11 lads have admitted still having their favourite cuddly toys on their bed at home.
‘Nah man, I’m not getting rid of X (Insert name like ‘Fuzzy bear’)’
Ignore your DM.

SusieSusieSoo · 20/11/2021 22:08

My 9 yr old's teddy is literally dropping to pieces. He is planning to buy a replacement (same teddy) and pass the magic from the old one to the new one next weekend whilst we're visiting Santa. No way is he too old x

Hesma · 20/11/2021 22:09

My DD is 9 and loves her teddies. Don’t let anyone make him grow up too fast

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/11/2021 22:10

I’m in my 40s and my doggie sleeps on the marital bed. Sometimes on a weekend morning my OH complains that he has me, a stuffed toy, and the (real) cat taking up all the room.

MissCruellaDeVil · 20/11/2021 22:10

Of course it's not too old! I know lots of 11 year olds with teddies,

SinoohXaenaHide · 20/11/2021 22:10

Ignore.

My 12yo boy has a bed full of teddies and other non-bear soft toys, and spends most of his pocket money acquiring new ones regularly.

FASDE1517 · 20/11/2021 22:11

DS6 has only recently got into soft toys!

TawdryBrush · 20/11/2021 22:12

My nearly 8 year old DS still has several teddies in bed with him.

And my 50 year old DH still has his 2 childhood teddies, although they are kept on a shelf and not in bed thank goodness Grin

FGSWhatNow · 20/11/2021 22:12

I have a teddy. He often sometimes comes into bed with me at night. I'm 42 Blush

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/11/2021 22:13

We all took our teddies with us to university.... ignore

SnarkyBag · 20/11/2021 22:14

Both my boys loved teddies at that age, in fact when it came to declutteringbits the one thing the buggers wouldn’t part with. My 13 year old is poorly at the minute and is upstairs asleep clinging onto his favourite big bear.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 20/11/2021 22:15

I'm in my 40s. I never quite fully trust people who don't like teddy bears.
