Tiny DS in hospital with bronchiolitis - hand hold

DS 14weeks has had a bit of a cold the last few days but this morning really deteriorated. I took him to the GP who said it was just a cold and sent me away. Throughout the day he got worse, fighting for breath, not feeding at all etc so I insisted the GP see him again this afternoon. One look at him and we were sent straight to hospital. DS is now on oxygen with a feeding tube and I’m in bits seeing my tiny baby so helpless. I’m trying to pump but I’m so exhausted and hungry I’m not getting much. DP not allowed to stay due to bloody fucking Covid even though we’re in a side room. Not sure why I’m posting other than to just get it out there.

@Floopyandtired I hope your DS gets better very soon. Make sure you are eating properly and getting rest too. Flowers

RainyDay2020 · 09/09/2021 01:52

Sending you hugs.

I’ve been there and know how scary it is as they go downhill so quickly. With my children once they had the right treatment they recovered remarkably quickly too so hope it’s the same for yours. Be reassured that they’re in the right place now.

Make sure you’re being looked after too, as a breastfeeding mother you should at least get a voucher for the canteen for a proper meal etc (at least that was the case when I was in hospital with my DC). And make sure you’re drinking.
It always seems worse in the lonely nighttime hours. Thinking of you.

I'm so sorry you're going through this with your tiny baby! I promise you will get through this horrible time. I had a preemie (born 2.5 months early) with bad lungs. 6 weeks in nicu and at 8 months 19 days on ventilator with RSV. He was on oxygen 18 months. So many illnesses. Never thought would survive those brutal stays in hospital. Can't imagine doing that in Covid time. My boy is 21 now. Sending you love. Take care of yourself. Eat and sleep when you can do so.

I had a very similar experience, although my DS2 was older (14 months). It's exhausting and scary, but he's being treated and monitored so hopefully things will improve soon.

BoneWithTheWind · 09/09/2021 02:09

Thinking of you, @Floopyandtired and sending you and your DS lots of love and strength. That must be horrible.. such a tiny baby! Really hope he gets better soon. Really try and take care of yourself too. Your little boy needs you xx

SleepingStandingUp · 09/09/2021 02:53

Sending love, I've been there.

Although all the bits are scary they are temporary, they are really basic bits of kit so he's not having any extreme kind of treatment, and they're designed to make his life easier atm whilst he gathers his strength.

Sleep. If baby is settled, sleep. I assume he's on a SAT'S monitor and the nurses will be round.. A bottle of formula if needed won't cause any harm. Tomorrow try again, lots of fluids, make sure hospital feed you bfast and lunch, do your best. It will be good enough

NatriumChloride · 09/09/2021 03:16

Big tight handhold here OP. Your son is in the best possible place and receiving all the right treatment. He’ll improve from here on in, you’ll see. Look after yourself too - try to get some sleep and at least make sure you’ve had a sandwich or something to eat.

Dogsandbabies · 09/09/2021 03:53

We are in the same boat @Floopyandtired. Also in hospital with my 5 week old DS for bronchiolitis. It is horrible watching them so helpless. Somewhere between the beeping monitors and the worry I am struggling too.

longerevenings · 09/09/2021 04:06

Flowers 💐 to those watching over their babies in hospital.

I remember my dc when they were in scbu, it is a very scary time.

Make sure you eat and drink. Hoping you get some sleep.

Floopyandtired · 09/09/2021 04:46

Thank you so much everyone. I am overwhelmed that so many of you would take the time to reply and be so lovely. He’s having two hourly tube feeds and I’m trying to pump to keep up. They aren’t feeding me until breakfast but have kindly offered unlimited jugs of water! DS is refusing to sleep in the hospital cot bed so is sleeping in a buggy which they’ve somehow managed to hook an oxygen tank up to.

@Dogsandbabies sending you all my best wishes for a speedy recovery for your DS x

Handhold. It’s such a hard thing to go through but you are in the best place. Would DP be allowed to drop you in a bag of supplies? Might be worth asking

Kakser · 09/09/2021 05:12

What a horrid time for you. Do your best with pumping but as a pp says, a bit of formula if needed will be fine too. I hope your baby has a much better day tomorrow. They really are resilient little things.

Shortyshortcake · 09/09/2021 05:16

Hi @Floopyandtired just to say that I had exactly this with my son when he was 6 weeks old. It was terrifying but once he was having treatment, he improved after two days and we were out after 4. Worst time ever but you are in exactly the right place. Sending you lots of love x

Floopyandtired · 09/09/2021 15:04

DS has deteriorated and has been put on a ventilator. I am not religious but if you are would you please keep my baby in your prayers. His name is Henry and he is my world.

Poor lamb. I'm so sorry. And yes, I will.
GU24Mum · 09/09/2021 15:08

Poor Henry (and you). I hope the oxygen does what it needs to be and that he'll pick up very soon. Thinking of you. x

hedgiehedgehog · 09/09/2021 15:08

Sending love and best wishes to you and baby Henry, hoping for some good news for you very soon Flowers

TheWristBoundLatexBitch · 09/09/2021 15:09

Wishing him a speedy recovery Thanks

Mama1980 · 09/09/2021 15:11

Thinking of you, and wishing Henry a speedy recovery.
I had 2 micro preemies, my ds1 was ventilated for a very long time, caught every bug going and was on oxygen or nearly 2 years on and off. It's terrifying but he's now a perfectly healthy teen.
Henry is in the best place.
Sending you strength x

whiskersonkittenss · 09/09/2021 15:12

Thinking of you OP. I hope your little baby gets better

Mysa74 · 09/09/2021 15:12

Poor Henry, keep fighting little man. Hand hold and prayers for you floopy xx
Little people shouldn't be ill :-(

Howsyourfather · 09/09/2021 15:15

Sending you Flowers and lots of positive thoughts. Having been on the other side (worked in NICU), little ones are far more resilient than they look and I’m sure Henry will bounce back before you know it. Stay strong and look after yourself xx

mistermagpie · 09/09/2021 15:15

Thinking of you and Henry, I hope and pray that he makes a speedy recovery. Try to rest and eat if you can, you need your strength too xx

TwilightSkies · 09/09/2021 15:16

Hand holding and praying xxxxxx
