How many Easter eggs do you get your children ??

I have a 5 year old and is an only child and she always does so well as we come from a large family so will receive Easter eggs from both grandparents, aunties uncles etc
So this year as a single parent and a bit strapped for cash I'm thinking of getting my dd just 3 Easter eggs I would normally do a lot more and maybe a soft toy or a small toy. I feel bad but I think it's a waste of money and over exaggerated !
Just wondering what other parents do/or how many eggs they get ?

The thought of small children eating even two eggs in a say makes me feel ill

Why? Is it poisoned chocolate? Shock

EugenesAxe · 19/03/2021 19:42

I usually get them one egg; decent size. I also do an egg hunt with small foil-wrapped eggs and might get them something like a chocolate bunny.

2late2fixate · 19/03/2021 19:42

Easter egg hunt with mini eggs. Supermarkets do bags of foil wrapped hollow eggs. Or you can buy plastic eggs that you can put little mini eggs or smarties eggs into. Do it outside if it's a nice day or in the house with clues written on cards. Then bake a cake together to put the eggs on top.

Let grannies and grandpas etc get the bigger eggs.

about 20 each? probably more?
disclaimer - we are in forrin and easter eggs are half the size of a creme egg.

@BurgundyBells

I love the faux shock and disingenuous confused faces on this thread Grin

Even if one small easter egg (or none) is the norm for you I don't believe that anyone is so naiive and detached that they actually would be unaware that some people go ott at Easter and buy loads, just like some go OTT on birthdays or Xmas.

I mean really, why? Why the fake confusion? 😂🙈 People are odd.

I actually genuinely didn’t know people bought their kids more than one egg until I read it on MN! I knew some people bought expensive Easter gifts etc, but had never encountered people who bought piles of eggs for their kids (and still haven’t, in real life).
Mn753 · 19/03/2021 19:44

I usually boil them down with kale else they won't get eaten

guiltynetter · 19/03/2021 19:44

I buy them one each, and now I think is that means 🙈 I've got my 6 year old a large Cadburys fingers one. I always buy an Easter egg hunt too, kinder or something.

I don't think it's faux shock. Of course there are people who do strange things in all walks of life, nothing's impossible, but it's still normal to be surprised at things if they're very unusual. I would saying buying a five-year-old three eggs when they already receive AT LEAST four eggs (likely many more based on OP's wording) from "both grandparents, aunties, uncles, etc" is very unusual.

And actually it's not only the buying 3 eggs on top of all the rest that's shocking, it's more that OP thinks she would be terrible not to.

TheOneWithTheBigNose · 19/03/2021 19:45

And I’m not one of those who thinks 3 Christmas presents is OTT or anything like that, just didn’t know buying multiple eggs was a thing.

Mn753 · 19/03/2021 19:45

I once tried buying my child chocolate but they just donated it to the homeless on the way to look after their eight ponies

dementedma · 19/03/2021 19:45

1 each

orderingcalmingtea · 19/03/2021 19:45

I understand that they can end up with piles of eggs, as gifts from other but genuinely wouldn't have considered buying more than one (unless the small ones bought in packs of multiple). It's like an advent calendar, surely?

I've just eaten a bag of Doritos and a massive bar of chocolate so I'm definitely not a 'half a string bean and I'm full til Tuesday' type

Runnerduck34 · 19/03/2021 19:45

I do an easter egg hunt and get them a gift £10-20 .
They get a couple of easter eggs from family as well

Thesearmsofmine · 19/03/2021 19:45

One medium egg and then we do a hunt where they get a handful of mini eggs and a cream egg of similar.

TomHardyAndMe · 19/03/2021 19:46

None. And none from family.

AjayChe · 19/03/2021 19:46

I know people who buy more than one egg for their kids. And I know people who get lots from extended family. I don't know anyone who does both. And I certainly don't know anyone who would feel guilty about getting them less than three if they already get 4 or more from family!

Nohomemadecandles · 19/03/2021 19:47

Youre putting unnecessary pressure on yourself. Just get her an egg or a bunny. It's not most people who buy tons of eggs. And like a pp said, you're not breaking a 10 year tradition! Certainly not worth you getting upset over.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 19/03/2021 19:47

I've bought loads before and ds just doesn't eat them so I end up getting fatter so I'm only getting 2 this year one from me and one from the Easter bunny. I might also get some Easter related crafts to go with it.

transformandriseup · 19/03/2021 19:55

Just one egg but my 1 year old still ended up with 5 in total last year. I also I thought a gift of one egg per each person giving is normal.

SmilingHappyBeaver · 19/03/2021 19:56

Ours get one each. Why would anyone get a child more than one? No wonder there's an obesity problem in the UK. Mine might get another smallish one from a Grandparent, but only small as they know they've already had a main (big) one from us.

Beautiful3 · 19/03/2021 19:57

One large egg each.

JurassicShay · 19/03/2021 19:59

Normally do 2/3 £1 eggs a bunny plus about 30 smaller eggs/small characters in the egg hunt but this year Iv gone a bit over board and they have a huge one, 3 medium ones, bunny, bags of haribo bunny's, mini eggs, kinder eggs and all sorts Blush

Magnificentmug12 · 19/03/2021 19:59
  1. Then we put the little ones all around the house for them to find and they also get a present, like a craft activity, book or magazine
Magnificentmug12 · 19/03/2021 20:00

One year we had over 20- they were 10p each after Easter and on sale and we bought loads, egg chocolate is way better than normal chocolate

ChocOrange1 · 19/03/2021 20:00

@BurgundyBells

So many restrained children on mn whose small amount of Xmas or Easter chocolate lasts for months and dc that aren't all that bothered about them anyway. I never see the like in real life.

Am I the only parent with feral beasts who rip into their Easter chocolate and are happy to eat it all day?

I'm sure mine will do that when she's older. She's currently only 4 so if I put the chocolate in the cupboard she forgets about it 😂
