How many Easter eggs do you get your children ??

I have a 5 year old and is an only child and she always does so well as we come from a large family so will receive Easter eggs from both grandparents, aunties uncles etc
So this year as a single parent and a bit strapped for cash I'm thinking of getting my dd just 3 Easter eggs I would normally do a lot more and maybe a soft toy or a small toy. I feel bad but I think it's a waste of money and over exaggerated !
Just wondering what other parents do/or how many eggs they get ?

I honestly don’t get my son one at all! I feel kind of bad but have been very stressed and busy as a single parent for a long time, and the organisation of Easter eggs was too much for me! And he gets plenty chocolate anyway. And I go overboard at Christmas so it’s not because I’m so morally superior not to get him an egg just never really did it coz I had too much else to think about. I think by never setting the precedent it’s just not something he expects from me. My mum always got him one though til he became a teenager and doesn’t really care any more. And some years I would randomly get some of those small eggs to hide round the garden for an Easter egg hunt which he loved. Sometimes there would be a surprise of a bigger egg at the end if I was organised, sometimes not 😂 I did try to take him out for an Easter egg hunt or do one at home most years when he was little.

One egg.

GintyMcGinty · 19/03/2021 19:06

I bought my a £4 egg each. They only ever get one each from us.

The get other eggs from grandparents and aunties.

One large one each.

When they were little we also did an egg hunt in the garden with mini eggs.

No other presents.

Hullabaloo31 · 19/03/2021 19:07

1 each. Then a couple of nets of those teeny ones to do a hunt with some years.
Grandparents usually get them one each too.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 19/03/2021 19:08

When smaller, a large egg for the end of the hunt and small ones and bunnies to find. Usually a new toy or game to play over the break.

Now they are older we don’t do a hunt and they can choose to have a large egg or some smaller ones. They get extra pocket money over the holidays as usual.

I don’t know anyone who only gets one egg or new toys only at Christmas or birthdays.

ChocOrange1 · 19/03/2021 19:10

Weird to get them more than 1. If you want to get them more wouldn't you just get one larger one rather than multiple small ones?

My daughter is 4, we have bought 8 small individually wrapped eggs (total 100g) for an egg hunt and that's it. I expect she will get 2 or 3 eggs from family members - usually the ones which are about £1 each.

She still has chocolate left over from Christmas, even though she didn't get much. She just doesn't eat much chocolate so getting her loads of eggs seems pointless.

Younger daughter is only 1 so obviously she won't be getting any chocolate but I've bought her a small toy instead

Maryann1975 · 19/03/2021 19:11

I never realised it was a thing to buy your dc more than one egg? I tend to get them one of the large ones, maybe the £5 ones from Tesco. They will probably get one of each set of grandparents, maybe one from an aunt and their god parent tends to drop something round too. That’s plenty!

Rosieredapples · 19/03/2021 19:12

We do one big one and a lindt bunny which is plenty. When mine were very young with Easter not being a very expensive occasion we would get them a few eggs, a little toy and book or game and something to play with as most often we were traveling to see family and it kept them occupied.
At about 6 / 7 I had an epiphany realising the gifts would get bigger and more expensive and be expected the older they got. Slimmed it right down to one big egg and a bunny, also little sweets like mini haribo etc in plastic eggs for an egg hunt and we dyed boiled eggs and went a bit more back to basics. It's so much better. There's no chocolate hanging round still in May, there's no financial pressure. I'd curtail it one decent sized egg is plenty especially as you say she will get some from relatives.

Dontsayyouloveme · 19/03/2021 19:12

1, always one, plus There’s still chocolate here from Xmas!

RandomDent · 19/03/2021 19:13

None. Their relatives buy loads. They forget about them after a day or so anyway.

Eatingsoupwithafork · 19/03/2021 19:13

Zero she gets them from other people so I get her an outfit

Moonface123 · 19/03/2021 19:14

I never buy more than one egg. My two are teenagers so this year l have bought 1 med egg each and a lindt chocolate rabbit. They don't get anything else from rest of family, but they're more than happy, l only ever got one egg, and never questioned it.

Neolara · 19/03/2021 19:15

One. And some small eggs for the Easter Egg hunt, which they are still desperate to do even though they are teens.

AjayChe · 19/03/2021 19:15

Just spat my tea out at that. Was expecting you to say "thinking of not getting her one from me" and was gonna agree with you. If my 5 year old was getting given easter eggs from both grandparents, aunties, uncles, etc. I'd buy her none. I'd also keep most of the ones from family members for myself!

My kids get one each from us. None from extended family.

OrangeBananaFish · 19/03/2021 19:15

We buy them every other week or so when they appear in the shop and they get eaten that week. So when it comes to actual Easter we are either sick of them or they just get the same as they did the last few weeks. We don't do anything special over Easter regarding eggs etc.

We buy for everyone in the house so us adults get them too. I often wonder why I'm not the size of a house Grin

BlowDryRat · 19/03/2021 19:15

One. They get enough from various family members and various Easter egg hunts that they don't feel deprived.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 19/03/2021 19:16

None. Sometimes 1 if I've got spare money. Never more than 1.

ChocOrange1 · 19/03/2021 19:18

Your child is only 5. Surely you have only "normally" been buying her more than 3 Easter eggs for a two or three years at most? She won't remember. She is too young to say "but last year I had 7 Easter eggs"

mummywithhermini · 19/03/2021 19:18

None. They get enough choc from school.

yellowlorry123 · 19/03/2021 19:19

I always end up eating half of it myself. So the
Fewer, the better

Enb76 · 19/03/2021 19:20

1 egg - it's not even very big. I tend to go for small and beautiful and probably artisan

ifigoup · 19/03/2021 19:21

From us, one main egg, one Lindt bunny, and some Mini Egg-sized ones in an egg hunt. DC will probably get 2-3 others from relatives. They last a good few months.

kowari · 19/03/2021 19:22

You can do lots of lovely things instead - make Easter cakes with her - chocolate Krispy nests with a mini egg in each. Dye real eggs for breakfast. Plant bulbs. Make an Easter bonnet out of craft scraps.
While these are lovely memorable traditions, for parents who are actually struggling they may be out of reach. Cupcake cases, cupcake tin, rice krispies, chocolate, mini eggs (we have none of them) all add up to a lot for example.

BurgundyBells · 19/03/2021 19:22

I've bought these for years. Nice enough chocolate and really good value.

I usually buy 6 or 7 packs so we have over 100 small eggs hidden all over the ground floor and garden to collect (between 3 dc)...that's what the Easter Bunny leaves obvs.

Then they have one really nice 'big' egg each from us.

In the afternoon about half the small ones get melted down into krispie cakes. The rest of the small ones get eaten for breakfast and usually don't make it past the end of the day!
