How many Easter eggs do you get your children ??

I have a 5 year old and is an only child and she always does so well as we come from a large family so will receive Easter eggs from both grandparents, aunties uncles etc
So this year as a single parent and a bit strapped for cash I'm thinking of getting my dd just 3 Easter eggs I would normally do a lot more and maybe a soft toy or a small toy. I feel bad but I think it's a waste of money and over exaggerated !
Just wondering what other parents do/or how many eggs they get ?

My children get a big egg and one small one each, which they find after following an egg hunt around the house. They also collect little eggs along the way after each clue. The children usually get a gift and clothing too. This year, ds2 is getting a wooden bbq set and dd1 is getting the Sims 4. Family members also give them an egg/eggs too. Our birthdays are all just after Christmas so we do make a fuss at Easter.

1 plus they get some from family would never occur to me to buy them several
Although for neices and nephews this year I have bought 2 little ones when on offer at 75 p instead of a medium £2/3 one to save me a little as have 7 to buy for

RagzReturnsRebooted · 19/03/2021 23:40

@dementedpixie

We get ours 1 each, but one of the bigger ones. Why would you buy multiple for your own child?
This. Except last year because of lockdown they weren't getting any from family, they would usually get one from MIL and one SIL so 3 in total, plus extra sweets/mini eggs at SIL's easter egg hunt. Last year I bought them a couple each plus some little extras, then the following weekend we had Second Easter with another egg each. Because lockdown Easter was shit.

I'd never bought them more than 1 before, though these days they tend to be £4/6 ones not little ones.

None.
We have been eating them for weeks instead of other choc.

cinders222 · 19/03/2021 23:44

I will get daughter one egg and then eggs for egg hunt and a little toy for end of hunt. But she will end up with about a dozen from friends and family and I will end up eating them. !!!!!!

My giant teenager, who really could do with fattening up (unlike me), is getting:

A medium-sized choc bunny, probably on the Saturday,
A small egg on the Sunday, and
A dachsund (from M&S) on Easter Monday.
Ten tiny (really tiny) choc bunnies, which will be hidden around the flat for him to casually find over the weekend.

He's only getting the dachsund because I saw them and snapped. He wouldn't normally get this much from be, but fuck it, why not. But no "easter presents" - that way madness and ludicrous fuckery lies.

LindaEllen · 19/03/2021 23:52

My parents would always get us one Easter egg (usually one of the large ones you get in Tesco but nothing super extravagant) and they also did an Easter egg hunt in the morning, so we'd get other easter themed chocolate, chocolate bunnies, creme eggs and the like etc etc.

Then I'd get them off my grandparents, aunties, uncles, godparents, some neighbours .. I'd get about 15 a year when I was a child.

Lucky if I get any now. Sucks to be old!

SheikahSlate · 19/03/2021 23:55

Reading this has been a bit of a revelation. Growing up, I always received a bit of a stash, I have to be honest. 5 or 6 eggs...a nice pile to creep downstairs to ('has the Easter Chicken been', etc etc). The excitement was about 20% that of Christmas. I do the same with my own, now. I'm not generally materialistic / over-indulgent - but Easter's definitely a 'thing' in our house.

EmotionallyEncumbered · 19/03/2021 23:57

I'll be judged for this but I get loads, not the really big eggs, but medium, small ones, mini eggs. We do a huge egg hunt in the garden and I love it, probably more than the kids to be honest.

EmotionallyEncumbered · 19/03/2021 23:59

@SheikahSlate xpost, glad I'm not the only one!

Workinghardeveryday · 19/03/2021 23:59

We buy all kids one big one or £5! Why would you buy more if they are also getting from family!!

ArcheryAnnie · 20/03/2021 00:04

I suppose the thing this year, and last year, is that they aren't getting more eggs from friends and family, because we aren't seeing friends and family.

NightOwl19 · 20/03/2021 00:04

My DC will each get one medium one small and pack of Easter theme sweets, I'm going to do an Easter egg hunt this year but not with chocolate

Whatwouldnanado · 20/03/2021 00:10

I've carried on my childhood tradition of something new to wear which they would need anyway really so a dress when dds were little and a t shirt these days. They'll also get a chocolate bunny from us. Gps usually give us an egg to share. We do an Easter tree, cake with mini eggs. on.

Youvegotafriendinme · 20/03/2021 01:19

Usually 1 medium egg and a small Easter egg hunt but last year I couldn’t get so much as a creme egg for him. (Was shielding, none sent in the food delivery) so this year I’ve gone over the top. He’s had a crap year and he deserves to be spoilt.

SunshineLifeIsBest · 20/03/2021 06:58

I don't understand why you'd get them more than 1 main egg. It's not Christmas it's easter.

Ours get an Easter egg hunt to keep them busy with some small eggs along with the clues. Then at the end of that they will each get a bigger egg/bunny whatever.

Really prefer them not to get more choc from the rest of the family. If they do they need to save it for another day.

SunshineLifeIsBest · 20/03/2021 07:00

I don't know anyone who buys their dc's just one (unless a baby)) I end up buying mine around 5/6 each then some smaller treats. I love it and most of the eggs only cost about £1.

Perhaps people are concerned about the health of their children? Hmm

BigButtons · 20/03/2021 07:05

Only ever one each. They will get one from their dad too and possibly from my mum this year.
When they were small we’d do an egg hunt but I won’t do that anymore.
I can’t believe the amount of chocolate people are giving their kids.
It’s obscene.

Rover83 · 20/03/2021 07:24

I buy mine 1 each and then some for an egg hunt. My aunt always gets them one of the £1 eggs and my mum often gets them a lindt bunny.

My mum was always obsessed with us having too much chocolate at Easter as children so we only ever got 1 egg from grandparents and a colouring book or something from my parents.

Raindancer411 · 20/03/2021 07:29

One from us and one from the Easter bunny. He is dairy free so I tend to buy extras to put by for family if they want them. This year he will get 7 eggs in total....

He never had proper Easter until he was 5 though, so I tend to make it up a little.

longhaulstress · 20/03/2021 07:33

I don't make them eat them all in one day Grin

Maybe it's a regional thing? I live in the north west and always grew up getting a few as did my friends.

Thebookswereherfriends · 20/03/2021 07:33

I have an only child and she loves to have an egg hunt, so we have various plastic eggs whuch i put a couple of mini eggs in and hide around the house and then at the end she will find a regular size easter egg. That's plenty from us as she will also receive some from relatived.

Lemonlemon88 · 20/03/2021 07:35

Mine will get a chocolate bunny and an easter egg hunt of small eggs.

willowsway · 20/03/2021 07:37

Loads, but I only think I do this because that's what I got when I was a child. I don't really like them having so much sugar. I think I'll scale down the eggs this year and get a gift for them too.

RampantIvy · 20/03/2021 07:39

Parents who are concerned about the health of their children wouldn't be buying that many eggs. When DD was little she used to get given loads from around the family, but they lasted well until May. She is like me about chocolate in that she can take it or leave it.

Not that long ago she was still facing a lot of Cadburys eggs to eat and decided to melt the chocolate to make rice crispie cakes. The chocolate went greasy and vile and ended up in the bin. After that I had to request family not to buy Shiteburys Cadburys any more, because it really isn't chocolate as we know it these days.
