Is this a ridiculous name?

We have twin girls due in a few weeks time and are stumped on a name for baby B.
Our name for baby A is Quinn and the names of our other kids are Arabella, Felix and Hugo.
For baby B we've been deciding between Audrey, Eloise and Pippa.

However, the point of this question is to ask, do you think Pippilotta or Pippalotta is a ridiculous name? If we use Pippa, we'd like it to be as a nickname, but aren't fans of the traditional Philippa. So, would Pippilotta or Pippalotta work, or alternatively Ophelia or Josephine with Pippa as a nickname?

Please don't hesitate to share your feedback. I don't want to give my child a ridiculous name and fear that pregnancy hormones have clouded my judgement!

I've just googled "Pippilotta" - apparently it is a combination of "Little bird" and "Free woman". I love it!

Josephine
Ophelia
Eloise

Beautiful!!

Audrey no way!!

@hopeishere

Pippa and Quinn - P&Q might be a bit tricky. Mind your ps and qs etc?
I was thinking P&Q ferries!

We've settled on Audrey & Quinn now and are delighted with our choices and super excited to meet the girls in a few weeks!

Great choices - and congrats!

This thread has been an absolute masterclass in how to deal with the monumentally rude. A pleasure to follow!

Whoknows77886 · 18/03/2021 20:36

So sorry I have just seen that you've chosen Audrey. I didn't mean to cause offence by what I posted previously. Sorry. I should have had a read through before posting.

HavelockVetinari · 18/03/2021 20:36

I think Audrey is lovely!

It's fascinating hearing about the differences in making culture between here and the States.

Best of luck for the birth OP, you're so lucky to be having twins. Enjoy double the newborn snuggles! Smile

@SeigneurLapindeGrantham

Didn't know about the Maude sex toy thing that's weird and I'm sure most people wouldn't have a clue either. Is it a thing giving sex toys a name?
I don't think its the name of the sex toy, but rather the whole sexual wellness brand that Dakota Johnson's become a part of. In the US, there are a few medicine brands that are common girls names here in the UK and whenever people mention those names, my mind immediately flickers to the brand, so I wanted to avoid that incase the brand 'Maude' suddenly blows up and it seems like I've named my baby girl after a sex brand!!

Quinn is a boys name. I know 2 boys called Quinn.

Littlepaws18 · 18/03/2021 20:36

Ok I'm an idiot... it's P&O ferries.... I'll just crawl back under my rock 🪨

houselikeashed · 18/03/2021 20:39

haven't read the whole thread — sorry
has anyone suggested Philomena nn Pippa?

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 20:39

@3AndStopping

I think Quinn is really cool & Pippa is really pretty. I also think they go well with your other names, which are all also lovely. Audrey is pretty popular (near me?) in the UK so for that reason I’d choose Pippa. I think it’s a good stand alone name.

Honestly OP, you have had to name 5 children & have picked some really lovely names & you’re still getting grief 😂

No one in there right mind is going to go Quinn? Quim! Fanny!

Pippa? Blow iob!

Aghast. Only on bloody mumsnet...

Where abouts in the UK are you? We're in SW3 and it's popping up quite a bit around here too but isn't overly popular in Manhattan, where the kids will be raised, and hopefully stays that way until the twins start school!

Ha ha... P&O Ferries reminds me of Otis Ferry. What is it with name threads...?!

Quinn is a boys name. I know 2 boys called Quinn.
In the US, it's much more common as a girls name! Anyhow, we've decided on Audrey and Quinn and are delighted with our choices! Thank you for your feedback though - the differing opinions have been really interesting to read!

Pippa alone is good. I would not go with the full one it sounds like a cheese.

PurpleishDahlia · 18/03/2021 20:41

My first thought was Pippi Longstocking, made me smile :)

We posted on nameberry US as well :)

Posted here to get opinions on the Pippa variations but people have taken to commenting on Quinn, too!

Best wishes with your pregnancy. I was going to vote for Audrey but I see you've already chosen it. :) Just in case the sonographer got it wrong... I thought I'd throw in a side vote for Aubrey if they turn out to be boys. (I reckon you could still use Quinn for a boy too.) x

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 18/03/2021 20:41

@PelvicFloorTrauma

Quinn is a boys name. I know 2 boys called Quinn.
In 2019 in the US, 3191 girls were named Quinn, and 769 boys were named Quinn.

Don't feel bad at all! If we all liked the same names we'd have a classroom full of Audrey's or Eloise's or Olivia's. I posted on here for feedback and that's exactly what I've received so don't feel bad at all :)

Have never met a Quinn, but several Tarquins have crossed my path, although all male. I like Francesca, nn Fran, Frankie personally. Not too grand but clearly with some social status. It does seem to matter in the US (I lived there for some years).

@monicacat

I've seen lots of references to sausages but not to cheese yet, so that's a first! You'll be relieved to know we've chosen to go with Audrey, and have left Pippa for a future puppy or kitten or something :)

An alternative to Audrey which is not popular now as much as it was is Holly (Golightly). Lovely name.

Fran is a name with social status in the US? And people care about that?

I must let my neighbour Fran know. She'll be surprised Grin

PantherPantherus · 18/03/2021 20:45

Audrey and Holly are both in my immediate family but that was coincidence and long before I heard about Breakfast at Tiffany's.

twinmama2021 · 18/03/2021 20:46

@ArabellaScott

Arabella is a great name. Grin
Arabella Scott is beautiful and so elegant! You're very lucky. Beautiful name.
