Afraid no advice as in the same situation! Good to know its happening to others too!

DressingGown87 · 12/04/2021 12:57

@Sls668 oh I know can’t wait to see her in the costume. We have a happy nappy too, and a swim wrap to keep her warm. I can’t believe the price either, just hope she’s happy. I’ve managed to shave BOTH my legs this morning in one sitting 😂

We also do buggy walk / fit class. Which is good, we just go on a long walk with different terrains. I love walking at the minute, we did 20k yesterday.

@Mc3209 I had to cosleep the other week because of the same problem. It was the only way I could get through it. She’s back happy in her cot at the minute, but was up a few times last night. I think that’s because she stayed away from home for the first time this weekend, so was just wanting to check I was there. I think it’s a mixture of being unable to self settle again / leap / separation. I did some sleep training with Paige when I got to breaking point with rocking, but i didn’t leave her crying. It did help her to settle a lot better. Have you tried the cot instead of next to me? He might just want a bit more room? They just constantly change habits at this age. Hope you get a better nights rest soon, and you too @Glooorb

Mc3209 · 12/04/2021 19:59

It must be a developmental thing then. Solidarity to all you zombie mums out there 💐 We shall plod on and we shall survive.

@DressingGown87 congrats on shaving both legs in one sitting!
Yes, I bought a cot, it's arriving tomorrow, mattress will take 2 weeks to be delivered for some reason, so will transition him then (he is pretty much at the weight limit for next2me anyway).

Had a wonderful time today at Rhythm time class, his face lit up when he saw other babies and he's saw some bubbles which he was fascinated with so now i m going to convince DH that if we get rid of something baby doesn't use that we really need a bubble machine for him Grin

With it being a 2-mile walk one way I'd fully packed the changing bag as we're were out nearly 2 hours which is the longest we've really done before, ended up not needing anything at all but at least we were prepared.

Hope you're all enjoying classes those that have signed up for things :)

Mc3209 · 13/04/2021 16:46

@1990shopefulftm sounds like both of you had a great time! I actually got bubble solution and it was definitely a hit ☺️ especially weather is getting better

We had swim class today! She wasn’t really too sure about it and moaned a bit with her head on my shoulder for most of the class but she didn’t scream, I wouldn’t even really class it as proper crying so I’m was happy enough with that! It must be a strange concept to them being taken to a huge ‘bath’ in a little costume with mum who has to wear a silly swim cap and goggles so I’m not surprised it threw her a little

1990shopefulftm · 13/04/2021 17:21

@Mc3209 we moved into our house 3 years ago, still working on the garden being baby safe but nothing stopping having bubbles indoors.

Have any of you thought about baby proofing yet? trying to find things that will keep a moving baby safe but that I won't find ridiculously difficult to use seems like a minefield

DressingGown87 · 13/04/2021 17:37

We’ve been swimming abs I think she enjoyed it, at first she just glared at everyone, probably thinking where am I. But I did have to drag her out of bed this morning at 9.10 after she was up for a few hours in the night and she wouldn’t have a bottle before we left. Her favorite part was being underwater, she found it funny being dunked.

@Sls668 there was baby really crying in our class, sounds like she will take to it. Did you do the under water dunking?

@1990shopefulftm glad you had a great time. It’s alway the case when you pack everything. Paige loves bubbles too, we have a machine we use in the kitchen / bathroom / garden.

Not really going to do much baby proofing. Just move breakable / valuable things / dangerous out of reach, and stair gates. My reasoning being I can baby proof mine, but it’s better for her to understand NO, or what not to do, as when we visit people’s houses theirs necessarily isn’t going to be safe.

Sls668 · 13/04/2021 18:00

@DressingGown87 yes, I’m hopeful she will warm to it and it was just a shock to the system. The class is at 9am which is usually her nap time so we’re going to have to do some experimenting with how to make the morning work well!
We didn’t do any dunking and I don’t think it’s one of the big focuses in this class, she said something about they like it to be child led(?), I think dunking today would’ve pushed her over the edge too 😂

1990shopefulftm · 13/04/2021 18:31

@DressingGown87 I can only move so quickly with my horrendous reaction speed and we have a cat so I don't think safety gates alone is going to work for us, might end up with a playpen in the living room.

krissy12 · 13/04/2021 18:45

sorry everyone just catching up. we are the same with baby being more unsettled at night. my mum told me my brother done this and she was told by the health visitor at around 5/6 months babies start to get separation anxiety so to put a tshirt worn that day in the cot and she said it worked. trying it tonight so will update.

also a bit concerned..... we have started putting lo in his highchair but there is no footrest and his legs and feet have been going purple because they are dangling. they also do this the odd time if carrying him upright. does this sound normal?

1990shopefulftm · 13/04/2021 19:48

@krissy12 babies do have worse circulation than adults but I would speak to someone about it, my sister has Raynaud's phenomenon and her feet did that as a baby.

krissy12 · 14/04/2021 08:20

thanks @1990shopefulftm I'm now not sure if it's because the highchair doesnt have a foot rest. I've been looking online and it seems the ikea one we have is the only highchair without a footrest something I never even thought about at the time. I did mention it to the HV about his feet going purple sometimes when carrying him and she thought it was likely positional because they go back to normal quickly but you end up just worrying about everything

1990shopefulftm · 14/04/2021 09:10

@krissy12 we have a different brand highchair but I ve seen that people buy or make their own footrests for the IKEA ones.

krissy12 · 14/04/2021 09:18

yeah I think I'm going to buy a footrest for it.

also the tshirt in the cot was an epic fail

DressingGown87 · 14/04/2021 09:28

@krissy12 I had seen something on Facebook the other day (think it was a sponsored add) about high chairs without footrests, and you can buy a footrest add on which grows with the child. Maybe have a look see if you can add something on? Babies do have poor circulation, so hope it’s something that will get better in time. Hope the T-shirt trick worked.

@sls668 I know the new challenge is trying to get out the house. Our class is 9.45 so slightly later but still falls with usual nap time if she wakes at normal time.

@1990shopefulftm hopefully a playpen might help. I got a pop up one just for when I have a shower / hanging washing out etc, so she can be enclosed. I don’t want a permanent fixture in the lounge 😂 But will only start using it when she wants out the jumperoo. All my cleaning stuff is high level too in the utility, but I did have cupboard locks when the twins (SDc) where little and they where under the sink.

Sls668 · 14/04/2021 09:37

@krissy12 google cove baby, they make footrests, cushion covers and placemats for the IKEA highchair. Ours looks lovely and we’ve ordered one for my mums too

1990shopefulftm · 14/04/2021 10:53

@DressingGown87 a pop up one could be ideal for us. I ll see what I can find

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn · 14/04/2021 16:23

Anyone else's baby fight every single nap? I'm so over it...

Strawberries4days · 14/04/2021 16:45

@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt yep DD does it some days and when I win it's only like 20 min nap🙈 I think it's from tasting new foods each day plus wanting to roll and sit up at the same time so her mind must be racing

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn · 14/04/2021 17:00

20 min naps are a killer. That's what I get too unless I just hold him. 💤💤

Sls668 · 15/04/2021 20:56

Is everyone weaning now? My LO was 5 months on the 10th and I wanted to hang on until 6 months but she just wants to eat everything in sight 😂 I’ve tried a few different mashed down fruits and veg and she loves it. If I give her a finger of something, she can hold it and bring it to her mouth too. She was 2 weeks late so part of me thinks developmentally shes not far off 6 months at all

1990shopefulftm · 15/04/2021 21:24

@Sls668 we haven't started yet, we re thinking of starting when he's 24/25 weeks as he was a bit late but we want to go straight to BLW

Glooorb · 15/04/2021 22:00

We gave Oscar a carrot stick last weekend which he chewed but didn't swallow anything. I'm quite nervous about BLW - I might start with purée for a little bit while I work up the courage with BLW.

What I wasn't sure about is - how soft does the carrot stick have to be? People say it is ok if it can be mashed up in your fingers but to me that's still not clear the extend of the softness... also I was worried that if Oscar bit off a chunk of the carrot stick, will that get lodged in his throat? I'm sure I'm worrying about nothing - just need to do some research and reassure myself some more!

I preordered this book since I follow her on IG and she helped write the Joe Wicks' wean in 15 book

krissy12 · 15/04/2021 22:08

thanks everyone I'll look at buying a footrest

we're 24 weeks here but not started weaning yet. I asked the HV about starting because hes looking for more milk and was already on 40 oz. she said the gold standard is 26 weeks but could start if I want but would be giving myself more work so I've held off but thinking about starting soon
