@Strawberries4days yep, that's something called "swimming". Next step in tummy time 😁

DressingGown87 · 06/04/2021 19:40

@Strawberries4days it’s always the case, hopefully she still goes down at bedtime ok. Aww bless, we don’t even get tummy time as she still hates it. Paige just likes sitting up now, or if she’s led down she just eats her feet and rocks to get back up.

Strawberries4days · 06/04/2021 19:46

@Mc3209 @DressingGown87 I love it😂 DH wants to Photoshop her flying in the sky haha

That's so good Paige can sit up! It makes things easier and playing more fun I think!

Aww yeah she's normally good for bedtimes, knocks out after a bottle and a burp.

Hope everyone's well. Noah is now 6 months! Can't believe how quick it's gone. I've hit a few bumps in the road though, just trying to work through them. The first one being him not being interested in milk at all since he's been weaned, at first he dropped down to 4 bottles and now we're on to three and I'm really struggling to get those fed to him too. I've always done bottle before food as recommended, he will eat food fine but when it comes to milk he just refuses. I've tried to add his milk into any food that I've given him but I still don't think he's having enough.
He can now sit unaided a few minutes, but not interested at all in rolling, he can roll on to his side but not back to tummy or vice versa. He would just happily play on his back.
I didn't do BLW with other two DC but was considering doing it with Noah but he hasn't quite figured out how to hold onto something for long enough he just ends up throwing it. He sucks on his hands all day long but if I put something into his hands he will either shake it up or down or just let it go, so unsure what to do regarding blw.
He's still on three naps a day, wakes between 7/8am bottle first then breakfast an hour later, first nap around 10 until 11.30/12, I offer milk first but he usually refuses so I try to put some into his lunch, another nap around 2 until 3, then I try to offer him milk again when he wakes up but he will only have 2 or 3 oz. He will then have his last nap around 5.30 for around 30/45mins has some dinner once's up and then bed between 8 and 9 and I offer him another bottle after his bath but it's a struggle.

1990shopefulftm · 10/04/2021 09:48

@SamK93 the NHS changed it to food before bottle now apparently when I looked it up. Would you be comfortable giving vitamins if you re worried about the milk?

We ve hit 44oz a day of milk now and want to do BLW so we re trying to hold off until he's 25 weeks or so as I figure a week early won't do any harm but know do many people with intolerances I don't want to try any sooner , they say if they can sit assisted well and don't have the tounge thrust reflex then it can be great to help their coordination doing BLW.

DressingGown87 · 10/04/2021 15:01

@SamK93 Happy 6 months Noah!! Can’t believe we are at that stage already, it’s all gone so quick.
My friends DS is the same and now he has the taste for food, refuses milk only on about 25oz a day. We do milk before food, as that is the advice from the dietician and paediatric doctor, and space meals and feeds out as much as we can (although it seems a never ending cycle of milk / food / milk). Paige has dropped her amounts slightly now she is weaning. We do a mixture of purée and BLW, she is happier doing it herself. But then porridge etc I give her with a spoon, then let her finish it off. We use the fruit feeding things, maybe Noah would like holding one of them and gradually learn to put in his mouth.
Hopefully he will still keep taking some milk, just keep trying. Sounds like he’s don’t great though and your having some good naps, we are stuck in cat nap mode. Paige prefers being sat up too, she can roll, but hates being led down. They are all so different aren’t they.

Mc3209 · 10/04/2021 18:07

Can't believe we are at the weaning stage already! I am planning to start at the end of April when my little one turns 6 months on the dot.
I started him giving tiny bit of cooled boiled water in a sippy cup already, and although he likes the sippy cup, he is not impressed with water itself. His little face was a picture of mistrust and annoyance. Now I am worried he will not like the food!

OP posts:
Glooorb · 10/04/2021 23:26

Echoing everyone else - can't believe we are at that stage for weaning already!

We are planning to give Oscar some broccoli or carrot tomorrow to try out. Hopefully he will enjoy the experience. I don't expect him to eat any of it - I just hope he finds it fun! So is it milk before or after food then...? strange that NHS says milk after food. Other sources like kellymom says milk before food.

Is anyone else going through a leap right now? Oscar is really hard to put down at the moment and has started waking more during the night. He was really grouchy earlier for no reason. He is rolling from front to back and vice versa, but not super frequently. He does like sitting up. I'm breastfeeding him still and he is SO easily distracted (still! This started at leap 4!) Any noise and he will look around immediately and pull away from my boob. Rather frustrating!

DressingGown87 · 11/04/2021 07:21

@Glooorb I was advised milk between feeds or after. But as Paige has reflux, we started earlier so the food was to help the milk stay down. We usually do it in the middle of feed times, think the idea is don’t try and feed them when they would be full from the milk. She will reach to get anything she can eat, but then doesn’t like being fed. Hope he enjoys the broccoli and carrots.

We had a few bad nights last week where she was up most of the night. Since then she has become a lot louder, and won’t stay still so I don’t know if it was a leap. She is constantly reaching, wriggling off, bouncing in her jumperoo, or going backwards in her Walker. You lie her down on the playmat and she isn’t happy. Hope Oscar is more settled soon.

Paige is full of a cold, we have done saline spray, bath, shower steam, olbas oil, snuffle babe, calpol plug in. Anyone any tips?

DressingGown87 · 11/04/2021 07:53

@Glooorb I was advised food between feeds or after. 🤦🏽‍♀️ I’m half asleep.

Strawberries4days · 11/04/2021 09:13

We're the same with food few hours after her bottle since she's only on 4 bottles a day. Started yesterday with a spoon of porridge, loved it haha. Going to try banana purée today. I'm wondering, when do you offer water to them with their meals? We're just on spoon a day so I guess we don't start until she has more or do we start it now?

Mc3209 · 11/04/2021 09:50

@DressingGown87 hope your little one feels better soon.
@Glooorb same with breastfeeding, very easily distracted too, and waking up more frequently in the night.
@Strawberries4days my HV advised to start water now, so I've been giving few sips here and there from a sippy cup. He does not drink much at all at this stage though.

OP posts:
Strawberries4days · 11/04/2021 10:31

@Mc3209 that's what I was thinking cause they wouldn't know to drink water yet. Is it just cooked boiled water from the kettle?

Mc3209 · 11/04/2021 10:34

Yeah, it's suppose to be cool boiled water until 6 months, then can be tap water after 6 months.

OP posts:
DressingGown87 · 11/04/2021 11:12

@Strawberries4days we have had a little sippy cup for a while with cooled water, just do a little jug every morning. She doesn’t drink much, but likes the cup. Took awhile to find one she liked, (so many to choose from) so maybe just start trying with the cup.

@Mc3209 thank you seems the never end stream of green snot. Suppose this is the downside of her being at a childminder.

Sls668 · 11/04/2021 11:58

I always forget the gap between the babies as I think mine was one of the last born, she was 5 months yesterday!
I really want to wait until 6 months to BLW but she does try the odd bit here and there while we’re eating. She had some broccoli the other day, I put some small pieces on her tray and spoon fed some mashed bits. Her face was an absolute picture!
We start our classes this week, I got a bit carried away putting us on waiting lists so we have classes on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday! I’m quite nervous about baby swimming classes, half because I don’t know how she’ll react but secondly because it’s at 9am and I’ve no idea how we’ll fit feeds, naps etc around it and get there on time!

DressingGown87 · 11/04/2021 12:13

@Sls668 we have swimming on Tuesday, and I feel the exact same. She usually has a nap at that time 🤦🏽‍♀️ Plus I have to put a swimming costume on. What you dressing her in? Hopefully they will love it.

Sls668 · 11/04/2021 12:39

@DressingGown87 ours has asked that we come ready (obviously with clothes on over the top 😂) to reduce time in the changing rooms so she’ll have a normal swim nappy then the cutest little costume with built in nappy which they insist on. I’ll probably just stick a sleep suit on over the top for ease.
I MUST remember to shave beforehand! I also have to wear goggles and a swim cap so I hope I don’t know anyone there as I’ve no doubt I’ll look ridiculous! She better enjoy it as it costs a small fortune!

1990shopefulftm · 11/04/2021 13:12

@Sls668 we ve got one class booked on Tuesday, I can't drive so figured I ll see how walking to one goes before we sign up to more (it's going to be at least a half hour walk there so hoping it goes okay) ,what have you signed up for?

Sls668 · 11/04/2021 17:08

@1990shopefulftm we’ve got baby sensory which I always wanted to do and then a music class. I kind of booked that because I didn’t think we’d get a space swimming but we got lucky!

Mc3209 · 12/04/2021 09:01

Ladies, I would appreciate your thoughts.

We seem to be moving backwards with sleep. From birth mctiny always slept in his Next2Me like a champ, eventually waking once or twice for feed. Since about 4 months, he is waking up more frequently, every 2-3 hours, and for the past 2 weeks it's every 1.5 hours. Not all these wake ups are for food, most of them it's just him being unsettled. Wriggling asleep initially, until he wakes himself up and gets upset. Stroking/patting/shushing worked once or twice, but not consistent. What really works is getting him into our bed. Then he sleeps beautifully.
I don't mind co-sleeping, but I prefer he sleeps in his own bed. I won't be able to do any type of cry it out and the likes, I just can't stand by when my baby needs a cuddle and not give it.
Now, I put him to bed in his Next2Me every night, but I give in about 5am and take him in.

Anything I can do to get him sleeping better in his bed? Or should I just accept he needs this closeness now?

Sls668 · 12/04/2021 09:32

@Mc3209 I have no idea as we have the exact same issue!

Glooorb · 12/04/2021 09:59

@Mc3209 pretty much exactly the same issue here. He was pretty much sleeping and settling in his snuzpod cot for naps and nighttime sleeps, waking once or twice for night BF feeds. Last night he woke every 1.5 - 2 hours. I gave him the breast to settle him or my husband would rock him, and he would sleep on us but the moment we put him down he would stir and cry. I got about 3 hours sleep... :( at least you know there is another zombie mum out there today! I'm writing this as I rock my Oscar to sleep hoping he would stay sleeping for a period so I can catch up on sleep myself!

I'm chalking this up to another leap for now - perhaps he wants to be close to you? This leap Babies learn of the distance between you and them?

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 12/04/2021 11:49

@Mc3209 sorry to hear that, it's so frustrating. My DS is very mixed, some nights better than others but similarly the only thing that will make him settle after a feed is sleeping next to me. He's only about 20cm away from his next2me but somehow it makes such a difference. I'm just going with it for now- he spends most of the night in his cot and if we have to cosleep at the minute to get through I will. Nothing stays much the same with babies and sleep so I figure I can wean him off it later. Like @Glooorb says, it might just be the leap at the moment - so maybe keep do what you've been doing (or cosleep earlier in the night if you need to catch up on sleep) and then see if you can start putting him back again when he gets less clingy perhaps. I hope it gets easier soon xxx
