@Sls668 glad they checked her height so you know you don't need to worry. He's 68cm now, I think he's 98th for height and over 99th for weight, I ll never know how he's so big.

DressingGown87 · 22/02/2021 17:51

Hey, had a hectic couple of days, mostly giving my head a wobble.

Has anyone started their baby on any food? Following advice from the GP on Friday, we now have some porridge / baby rice every day. She absolutely loves it. Hoping something with some more substance helps her reflux.

I’ve also started sleep training (not cry it out) and I don’t leave her to get anymore distressed. But finally stopped the night wakings (apart from 5am), easier to settle, and 4 (50-90mins) naps! It
Might only last a few days, but I’ve cleaned the house, slept and got some work done, so feel better at least.

@Sls668 hope you’ve recovered from your fall.

@1990shopefulftm My weight loss plateaued, but just started loosing again, but it’s just 1/2lb a week, as long it’s in the right direction. glad you’ve managed to her out for a walk. I met my friend and her baby yesterday too, and Paige just shouted at him, poor boy didn’t understand.

@BlueLilyLilyBlue Sorry to hear your also struggling with regression, it’s not easy. Hope you had a better night last night. hope it doesn’t last too long. My DD also does the leg thumping against her cot.

@Mc3209 hope DS is not as grumpy today.

DressingGown87 · 22/02/2021 17:58

@1990shopefulftm get out for walk I meant. I’m with you, when will they stop growing so quickly.

@DressingGown87 he doesn't fit on my chest properly now when he sleeps, luckily he doesn't want to contact nap much.

Seems hope we might still get to go to baby groups even if they are 5/6 months old when it happens

krissy12 · 22/02/2021 18:31

we had 16 week jabs today and we have a poor soul now. he is so sleepy and literally whimpering feel so bad for him

Mc3209 · 22/02/2021 20:38

@DressingGown87 what type of sleep training did you go for?
@Monkeyseesmonkeydoesnt solidarity. I am hoping grumpiness is just a phase due to a growth spurt!
@krissy12 aww poor mite. I found those 16 week jabs to be the worst out of the 3. My little boy spent the day crying and sleeping. I hope your little one feels better soon.

It seems just as everyone else is growing out of contact naps, my baby is discovering them.. Well, at least that's a way for him to nap in the day time, and I like the cuddles.

DressingGown87 · 22/02/2021 23:14

@1990shopefulftm it does seem like there is light at the end of the tunnel. I think we can finally start swimming class in April, although will have to see if they can change the day, as it clashes with the childminder.

@krissy12 aww hope he is feeling better tomorrow. Lots of cuddles and calpol.

@Mc3209 I’m doing pick up, put down. As I think it’s kinder for how young she is. I always do 2/3 naps in her crib, 1 on a walk, and a cuddle (short) nap late afternoon when I have a brew and catch up on tv.

krissy12 · 23/02/2021 09:02

thank you he seems a bit better this morning

that's good @DressingGown87 that Paige is sleeping and napping a bit better

Strawberries4days · 23/02/2021 09:31

I actually can't wait to take Sophia swimming. But now I'm thinking, what does she wear in the pool regarding nappies😂 I'm in Scotland so we're getting the announcement today on our roadmap, but I think it's gonna be more stricter than England's 🙈

Getting our 16 week jabs today. Cancelled 2 weeks ago because of the bad snow and she had a viral rash on her tummy and chest! Dad's taking her and it'll be the first time in a car too so hopefully things will go well🤞

@krissy12 hope he feels better, it's never fun with these jabs. You just want to hold them and take away what their feeling!

@DressingGown87 that's really good she's stoppe the night wakings and more naps! Let's hope it last! We're thinking about doing the same thing because we just can't sleep at nigh with Sophia thumping her legs and crying out. Last night, she went to bed at 8.30 after a feed at 7.45 (trying earlier bed times) then she was up at 12.30 and again at 5.30 and finally at 7. Not so bad that night but other nights she was up every hour. Sleep regression is a pain!

1990shopefulftm · 23/02/2021 12:13

@Strawberries4days if I ve understood right, swim nappies hold poop and the pee leaks out of it and then you put the swim shorts or costume over it

Strawberries4days · 23/02/2021 12:40

@1990shopefulftm ahh right! I've been looking online for swim nappies. Just can't wait to get to the pool with her 😂

Jabs went good, currently blabbering away to ourselves. This happened with the first lot and then the crying and screaming started a few hours later so preparing for it🙈

1990shopefulftm · 23/02/2021 12:57

@Strawberries4days I cant swim myself but DH is trying to convince me i ll be fine in the kiddy pool and it's good if both of us go with him, i ll have to find a good swimming costume to hold my mum tum in before i'd go anywhere near a pool i think.

Mc3209 · 23/02/2021 13:09

@1990shopefulftm I am right there with you re swimming. I swim like a brick, and I already told DH it's his job to teach the baby how to swim 😬

OP posts:
DressingGown87 · 23/02/2021 13:27

@Strawberries4days I’ve got Paige a happy nappy, which is swimsuit and nappy built in. Then a swim nappy goes under that. That’s what is required by the pool where she will Do her lessons. Sleep regression is a pain, I’m just hoping it gets a little easier now we have stone structure. Glad Sophia is ok after her jabs.

krissy12 · 23/02/2021 15:20

so disheartened with our lockdown update feel so sorry for our babies not getting do all the things they should be able to do like meeting family/ friends go swimming and go to baby classes

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 23/02/2021 15:31

@krissy12 I read somewhere that now is around the time that babies start taking an interest in other babies. I'm just very very sad that our babies won't see any others for some time yet. Sad

krissy12 · 23/02/2021 15:34

@BlueLilyLilyBlue I know its awful for them my lb will be going to nursery when I go back to work and I just worry he is going to be shell shocked seeing all these other people and babies.

Strawberries4days · 23/02/2021 17:09

@1990shopefulftm don't worry, exactly the same, I mostly doggy paddle 😂 I was just saying I'll need a new costume because I'm sure the one I have doesn't fit!

@DressingGown87 that's so clever! I'll look for one with built in nappies. Sleep regression is never easy, hopefully Paige will be sleeping better soon!

@krissy12 I know what you mean, I was hoping there was more to it but it's just too slow. Feel so bad that all the babies will miss seeing each other. The only baby Sophia has seen is herself, her reflection is her best friend with the constant smiles and it's so sad!

1990shopefulftm · 23/02/2021 17:18

@Strawberries4days i havent bothered shaving my legs in mums and feel like its going to take some searching to find a swimming costume that i m comfortable in,

DressingGown87 · 23/02/2021 18:00

@1990shopefulftm I managed to shave mine last week for the first time, I think I lost a couple of pounds 😂 but I need to search for a costume I feel comfortable in.

@Strawberries4days I think they sell them on Amazon. They are cute little wetsuits. We will get there hopefully with some gentle training.

I’m looking forward to April, and we can hopefully go to the zoo, away to the Lakes for a mini break, eat out in an outdoor setting, and let people in my garden. So we can have some interactions. But hoping things don’t get delayed.

Glooorb · 25/02/2021 23:43

Hello how are we doing? It's been challenging for me.

I've been through the wars on breastfeeding. After the challenges of recurrent blocked ducts, Oscar bit me on the nipple a couple of weeks ago and the nipple swelled up to double its size and super sore. I pumped to give my nipple a rest so fed on the good boob, bottle feed expressed milk and bottle feed formula as top ups since i wasn't expressing lots. Then I had bouts of vasospasms probably due to nipple trauma, which I thought was thrush and hurt like a mf*er - i have been though labour and my God my boob was hurting so much it rivalled labour pains. It was like my boob was filled with knives.

All of this meant that my anxiety is through the roof and so it affected my letdown and Oscar is fussing on the boob which then made me even more anxious and I had a panic attack while breastfeeding last night. So many times I said this is it, I'm stopping breastfeeding but when it is going well I do love it. I'm going to take one day at a time and I can always decide that the next day, it's time to stop.

So I'm persevering for now. Trying to get my supply back up as after 2 weeks of pumping it's not great. Oscar's weight gain is slowing a bit so I need to monitor that too.

Anyway really just wanted a little moan as my mental health isn't doing so well ;(

Sls668 · 26/02/2021 03:11

@Glooorb sorry you’re having a rough time with it, breastfeeding is full of surprises isn’t it?! You’ve done so well to get this far! Do you use nipple shields at all? We have always used them as baby struggled to latch without them (she can actually do it now but seems to have got lazy with it)

Mc3209 · 26/02/2021 04:21

@Gloorb ((hugs)) that sounds tough. Rafa was a bit of a 'mare on a boob recently, crying, distracted, the works. I actually ended up contacting local La Leche League for reassurance /advice and they have been brilliant. Apparently it's the 4 months developmental leap in my case and normal. They run online support groups too in my area. Perhaps it's worth looking into it for a bit of advice?

Re weight gain, same here. It has slowed somewhat (I weigh him weekly), but he is still on his centile. Apparently that's also expected according to LLL, generally the important thing is for babies to stay on their centiles as the actual weight gain numbers are expected to reduced slightly at this stage.
I'd say give them a shout, it was well worth it for me for a peace of mind.

I am starting baby sign language with Rafa. Got the book, it's arriving today! Very excited, I hope it works 😊 Apparently supposed to speed up language development and help with those tantrums around 14-18 months when they struggle to express their wishes/feelings due to being pre-verbal still. Anyone else thinking of doing it?

BlueLilyLilyBlue · 26/02/2021 10:12

@Glooorb I'm sorry you're having a tough time at the minute. You're doing so so well and breastfeeding is so challenging. I've also had vasospasm in my nipples and the pain is bloody intense Sad. I've been in a similar position where I've thought about giving up but really love it despite the crushing anxiety. I don't think you can be prepared for how emotional it is. Agree about La Leche - they really helped me with some specific individual support when I was at my lowest. Day to day sounds like a good plan. I mix feed now and just offer what ever DS wants at that time, breast formula or both. It works for me as I get to still have the close bf relationship without so much anxiety. But you have to do what is right for you and your baby and LL will support you in that. I still bf DS whenever he wants without worrying about his weight- LL helped me to a good mental place again where I could enjoy breastfeeding. All I'm saying is don't put too much pressure on yourself - you're doing such an amazing job to get through all the pumping and the pain and just do whatever you need to to make sure you're both happy, whether that's persevering or stopping or mix.

@Mc3209 I've never even heard of baby sign language! Let us know how you get on, sounds really interesting.

My DS slept for 5 whole hours last night Halo feel like a new person! I've determined he just hates being held or rocked and putting him down in his cot and calming him from there has been working out much better.

1990shopefulftm · 26/02/2021 10:58

@Glooorb I m sorry to hear that you re struggling, I don't have any advice to offer as I FF but just to say your mental health matters so take it day by day.
@Mc3209 I m nervous to try baby signing as my fine motor skills are that bad when I ve tried signing in the past I found it so hard just learning to spell my name.

Come to accept that as he sleeps brilliantly at night (he can go 10 hours sometimes) that naps that aren't going to be very long for DS anymore so I m trying to make him watching chores educational by counting his formula scoops out to him and I give him his socks to hold whilst we do washing.

I ve put us on the waiting list for rhythm time classes, I ve never changed his nappy in public just at his grandparents and he's only had his bottle outside a couple of times so it ll be an adjustment having to do it again but I figure most mums of baby's at the class will be in that situation now.
