I think at six months the sleeping goes all cockeyed again. I've been dream feeding dd again as then when she wakes at whatever hour in the middle of the night I know that she doesn't need to be fed.
Have tried medised for the last 2 nights to try to get some good sleep and how on earth do you get enough swallowed by dd/ds?
No matter what I should be OK for travelling...I did an hour spin class at 40wks with dd so can't imagine that I'll be so bad that I wouldn't be able to travel a bit. We just have to remember that the earlier we do it the colder it will be and the harder to find an appropriate venue that will suit.
Had our first visit to a farmers market today and spent a fortune on lovely veges so the rest of the day is prepping food for the week so we have less to do.

I have been using grobags since dd was about 8 weeks, coincided with her sleeping through the night strangely enough. However like Fennel I sleep in arctic conditions and I feel it's healthier for dd also. In the beginning I often found dd cold in her grobag and I ignored the 'grobag advice' and dressed her in a vest and a sleepsuit in the summer. She wouldn't sleep with out her sleepsuit. Soon she'll be growing out of the small baby ones I have. I do throw a cellular cotton blanket across her too. We were also given a lovely fleece sleeping bag fron the USA which she sleeps in really well too.

Hey, Mrs D - I'm currently ignoring the grobag advice too - it says 21 degrees in the nursery (but feels chillier in our draughty house!). DS sleeps in a vest, sleepsuit and 2.5 tog grobag and still feels chilly sometimes (not just his hands) so I'm wondering what on earth he'll be in when it's truly winter!

Last night at about 10.30 he cried really loudly for about five seconds, then nothing til 7.30 this morning - weird! Think he's destined to wake up in the night tonight though cos I'm feeling really tired!

lunavix · 17/10/2004 20:00

I've been using a 0.5 grobag with ds all summer, but on nights it goes below about 16 i've put a blanket over the top... I think you just have to see what works. His arms and hands always feel so cold in the morning though.

hi yorkiegirl. dd3 likes ice-cold apple or pear puree when teething. she is getting good at feeding herself with a spoon - messy but quite accurate. is anyone else doing this?

went to lurk on the may thread, they are also discussing grobags and room temperatures! tonight I put dd3 in lots of fleecy layers and she was too hot to go to sleep!

yorkiegirl - are you going back full time, I can't remember. did you find it hard going back after dd1?

hewlettsdaughter · 17/10/2004 23:08

I saw that posting on the May babies thread YG - libb, if you're reading this, nothing you said deserved that response!
Thanks for the comments re the grobags. DD slept reasonably well last night - although she woke at 4 she wasn't obviously cold. Have put her in a bodysuit and sleepsuit tonight - this is what she always had on under sheets and blankets.
Fennel - when did you start weaning again? DD is still getting used to the feel of food in her mouth but, like your dd, is quite keen to hold the spoon (I use two spoons so she can hold one while I feed her with the other).

Thanks HD - how are you doing? I wasn't too perturbed by the childminder, I guess she had her reasons for posting what she did . . .

DS has a cold, poor mite. Hope you are all doing well - can you believe how time has flown?

ooh, sorry forgot to say good luck if you are returning to work - I am actually enjoying it more than I thought (although I have been cheeky and booked tomorrow and Tuesday off as annual leave already - I want to straighten the house after the rewiring without DS giving me the lovely puppy eyes . . . )

hewlettsdaughter · 17/10/2004 23:17

libb - time certainly has flown (my dd is 6 months today). YG, I keep telling myself the same thing re it working out (because it has to!). Know what you mean about going back before you're ready. I'm just getting into my stride and my maternity leave is ending!

Fennel - wow - dd3 is feeding herself?!!! I hadn't even thought about letting ds2 have a go!! Will give him a spoon tonight and see what happens! He's utterly miserable at the moment though - full of cold and a horrible chesty cough - although he slept until 6am today, which was a miracle. He sleeps in a sleepsuit, fuzzy big sleepsuit, under 3 blankets and has a heater on in his room! I think babies definitely sleep better when they're warmer, but it's soooooooo hard trying to judge what's going to keep them toasty or what might be harmful... I worry every single night, and always have a listen for him breathing if I go to the loo - fortunately he sounds like Darth Vader all the time so I can usually hear him!

Fennel · 18/10/2004 09:36

dot1 - I guess it could be a hereditory enthusiasm for shovelling food into mouth .

HD - I started weaning for 2nd time 3 weeks ago, dd3 was 5 months and a week. We're still just on the fruit and veg and babyrice but she's keen.

Yorkiegirl, working mornings must be quite nice, as long as your commute isn't too long. hope it's ok when you do go back

does anyone here use Ebay? I have bought 2 things on it this last week. one successfully, and then yesterday managed to "win" a puppet theatre at MORE than the new price. Duh! is it just a rip-off? most things seem to sell for about the new price in the end.

Hi dot - you must be busy at work, your quiet these days.

hunkermunker - I started a thread back in May when I was concerned about dd'd cold hands. I mean they were icy cold! Still everyone told me that was normal for babies and i should just feel at the back of her neck to see if she is warm. Didn't stop me throwing a blanket over her though and she does sleep really well.
I put her in her fleecey sleeping bag last night and I think she may have been too hot.

I notice that a few babies here seem to cry out in the night and settle back down again. Dd does that sometimes and I don't know why. When I check on her she is fast asleep. She is so beautiful when she is sleeping.

I'm sorry that childminder felt she had to throw her weight around on the May thread.

dot1 · 18/10/2004 10:07

too busy at the moment! Never enough time to lurk or post on Mumsnet these days - although we've just bought a computer for home and once it's up and running, should be doing lots more surfing!

Did anyone else have SPD when they were pregnant -can't remember - I had it quite badly towards the end, and have noticed that when I'm tired I still get it now. Just wondering if anyone else still does. Don't suppose it's worth going to the drs - I'm just v. tired today as had a concert yesterday (first one - went OK!) and am really quite sore today - hobbling about... Mind you, I've got a feeling it might go if I actually lost some weight...

Chuffed · 18/10/2004 11:02

my manager is in this week and sitting behind me so can't get on here very often today.
We are a sick family, I have an awful cold as does dd and dh is coming down with it.
Great nights sleep on Saturday night but last night dd woke at 3.30 and just wouldn't settle, screaming and screaming (I feel sorry for our neighbours) and in the end we just left her as an hour of trying to comfort her hasn't worked and she fell asleep within 5 mins.
She is in a grobag too but we have a pretty warm house and she is just in a 1 tog with a sleepsuit underneath and we just put a blanket over her if it is cold.
Great idea about the 2 spoons with the eating dd is always trying to grab the spoon when we are feeding her.

MrsDoolittle · 18/10/2004 11:25

I am probably being thick here, but why are you hobbling about after going to a concert dot?

lunavix · 18/10/2004 11:38

Has anyone ese had a horrid run of health visitors? Being quite a young mum my old health visitor (who herself was at least at retirement age) had problems relating to me and used to phrase all advice as a lecture, as if I really didn't have a clue how to look after my own baby.
Now I meet our new one for the first time today, who told me I was overfeeding ds (25oz of milk a day, plus 6 ice cubes of solids) and did i really want an overweight baby? And then she called him a PORKER. I don't care if it was in jest, she was bloody rude. Dear God, I am fuming.
Sorry I think this is just a rant!

hewlettsdaughter · 18/10/2004 11:39

Dot, I had spd to a degree when pregnant - it was definitely worse when I was tired. Am much better since dd was born - though I find I am not as comfortable sitting on the floor with crossed legs as I used to be (pre-dd).
Chuffed - poor you, you must be cream crackered!
My project for the next two weeks - get dd taking a bottle (or cup).

hewlettsdaughter · 18/10/2004 11:40

Rant away lunavix... I am sure there are good hvs out there but you do hear of awful ones too. You know your baby best.

lunavix · 18/10/2004 11:45

HD - Yes I think I'm done

It just makes me so mad that I have this happy healthy brilliant baby and the people who are supposed to be professionals think that a chart corresponds to every single baby and their development. He wasn't small when he was born (7lb 14) and he is a lot taller than every other baby his age. GRRRR.
