HD to be honest it took a matter of days as dd seemed starving. She was on 3 small meals a day after about 2 weeks.
We did just do fruit for the first little while as that was what she preferred and I wanted to get her used to eating.

MrsDoolittle · 20/10/2004 12:43

My experience is the same as Chuffed. Once we started we never looked back.
I guess HD dd is still happy being bf, mine wasn't so it was pretty easy.

Thanks girls
She'll have to discover the delights of food once she's with the childminder! Or work out what to do with the bottle by then!

hewlettsdaughter · 20/10/2004 12:46

Can you tell I am worried about how she will cope...

MrsDoolittle · 20/10/2004 13:05

How is she going with a bottle HD?

hewlettsdaughter · 20/10/2004 13:45

Well, the 2 or 3 times we have tried the bottle she hasn't out and out refused it - nor has she drunk much though (only the tiniest bit, and that by accident, IYSWIM). Yesterday she mostly chewed the teat. She just plays with a cup too.

MrsDoolittle · 20/10/2004 13:54

Then she is thirsty with the childminder she will atek the bottle She knows she doesn't have to with you

Chuffed · 20/10/2004 14:02

That sounds exactly like what dd did HD. She was cool about it until she didn't get a bf after she had played or chewed.
We found the cup worked better as she loves to just chew the teat. Are you doing water in them HD or milk?

I'm envious of those of you at home, I don't want to be at work!

hewlettsdaughter · 20/10/2004 14:04

Tried water in the cup - trying milk (formula) in the bottle...

Chuffed · 20/10/2004 14:15

we do milk in the cup...

MrsDoolittle · 20/10/2004 15:22

Hd - check this out Would this help?

hewlettsdaughter · 20/10/2004 16:47

There wasn't any design re water in the cup, milk in the bottle - that's just what we did. May try the cup again, with milk.
MrsD - thanks, I hadn't seen that thread but have posted on it now.

Hi everyone, new april mum here. Trying to catch up on what you have been talkiing about so far, sooo impressed with all of you on solids (and then some!) - like you HD I have just started the weaning, 2 weeks. I think I may have a milk addict on my hands as my ds does not want to know and cries until he has his bottle. Am getting a little worried.

I didn't start until he was 5 and a half months
a) because he wasn't interested and
b) I have become so paranoid about introducing things too early and giving him 'the wrong thing', so much advice out there that I'm too scared to feed the poor blighter.. so pathetic, I know.

Hi Yorkiegirl - Ds was born April 8th. He's a happy little chap, just started crawling last week. Frantic childproofing has begun.

I guess it just takes time with the feeding, as with everything else. I'm thinking, 'C'mon, it's just a spoon with some food' and he's thinking, 'What the @#$%!!!?'

My ds has a fascination with the frayed edges of rugs and throws... may have an interior designer on my hands.
Fortunately for me he hasn't discovered that he can go beyond the blanket on the floor, it's better than electric fencing! Won't last, I'll find him chewing the tv cable any day now. I've been lent a play yard/fencing thing which is quite big, but it's weird seeing him in it - I was one of those kids who kept letting my bunnies out of their cages to run wild... half of them got killed by the neighbours cat, but that's a whole different story...

dolbear · 20/10/2004 18:17

welcome fefifofum !
crawling !! cool , ds is just thinking about it , tho cos dh is an engineer we have resorte to putting aside his cables in an attemt to stop him eating any he finds , not sure that this is a sensble solution , suspect not
feelin smug now ( how quickly the mood chanmges ) ds has just polished off some real banan in the good old pf , but it is a start !
even manged to sprinkle a bit of weeabix in there too !
thanx for the support guys ! mum means well but......... needed a good telling i did

hewlettsdaughter · 20/10/2004 20:00

dolbear - banana, yay!
welcome to the thread, fefifofum - you're in bermuda aren't you?

Fennel · 20/10/2004 21:21

hi fefifofum. my dd3 is also a potential interior designer, she loves all textiles, fabrics etc.

HD - what was your ds like on weaning? My 3 were all different, dd1 took about a month to really get into it, and really liked milk best for many months, even years. dd2 went straight on to quite hearty quantities immediately, and dd3 piffled around uninterested so we gave up and started again a month later, at which point she got very keen.

have you tried letting her play with the spoon with some food on?

fefifofum · 20/10/2004 21:33

Yes HD, I'm in Bermuda. It's a hard life...

Fennel · 20/10/2004 21:38

is ds your first?
