My 3 month old just isn't right

I have a 14 week old ds who just isn't right. I lost my thermometer so can't take his temperature, but he does feel slightly too warm. He's been whingey crying all day and hasn't stayed awake longer than 45 minutes, just wanting to be rocked to sleep in the sling. Im pretty sure it's not teething bothing him. He's just not right. Would it be over the top to ring the gp tomorrow? Would they even see him if he's potentially got a raised temperature? Probably not related but I'd be intrested to see what anyone thinks of this... He has a small purple bruise on his head but it's not a bruise. I spend 24 hours a day with him and he's definitely not bumped his head in any way. It fades when pressed. Anyone know what it could be?

I would ring 111 for medical advice. Its very hard but if your instinct is something isnt right, call the dr.

AnyFucker · 09/06/2020 21:52

I think you should call 111, love

YouBoggleMyMind · 09/06/2020 21:52

I'd be calling 111.
Is he still feeding? Wet and dirty nappies? What does his cry sound like, what does his body look like?

Phone 111 or take him to A&E. It sounds as though he could have a temperature, is very lethargic and the bruise-type marking sounds unusual. I wouldn’t delay seeking medical advice until tomorrow.

Haggisfish · 09/06/2020 21:53

I’d call 111 for advice. Medical people would always rather see a baby and it be nothing than miss something.

Wifeofbikerviking · 09/06/2020 21:54

Totally agree, mother intuition counts for a lot. I'd call 111 and ask to be seen for reassurance at least. Can never be too careful

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 09/06/2020 21:55

Trust your instinct & take him to A&E.
He doesn't sound right.

Smarshian · 09/06/2020 21:56

Another vote for calling 111. It’s always worth getting a medical opinion if you think it’s not right.

Sunshinegirl82 · 09/06/2020 21:57

I would call 111 or take him to a&e. He’s still very little, they really would always prefer to see little babies. You won’t be wasting anyone’s time. I hope he’s better soon.

Cheeeeislifenow · 09/06/2020 21:58

Any good doctor will tell you, they would rather see a child and it be nothing than have something missed. Call 111 and ask for advice. Hope all is well.

Lilybet1980 · 09/06/2020 21:59

A paediatric A&E doctor once told me it’s never an over reaction to take a baby to get checked out. If you are concerned enough to post in here then I really would get them checked out.

I would call 111 and try to get an urgent out of hours appointment. They were always great when mine were little.

ballstoit · 09/06/2020 22:04

That niggling feeling that he's not right is enough to take him for advice - 14 weeks is very little.

hotstepper4 · 09/06/2020 22:05

100% call 111. You can not take enough precautions at this age. Really hope your boy is ok

IKEA888 · 09/06/2020 22:07

agree with others get him checked tonight
hope all is ok

Selfsettling3 · 09/06/2020 22:08

Ring 111 and they will get him seen tonight. I was told by a paediatrician in A and E that if Mum is worried about a baby then they are worried about the baby.

Bluntness100 · 09/06/2020 22:08

Op, agree with the others and adding my voice, get him checked don’t wait till the morning

And don’t worry about it, Christ when my daughter was an infant I had her at the emergency docs nearly weekly over some imagined concern or other. My husband used to joke it was our Friday night out.

Just go get it checked. Or call 111.

Atinytrolley · 09/06/2020 22:18

Another vote for getting medical advice today - 111, Urgent Care maybe or A&E. Dr also told me they'd rather see a child and it be nothing than have something missed. Hope all is ok.

Lougle · 09/06/2020 22:20

Agreed with all above - get seen/speak to 111.

frenchfancy81 · 09/06/2020 22:26

We had to go to A and E with our 3 year old a couple of weeks ago and it was absolutely fine, though I was very anxious about it.
We called 111 first so the hospital were expecting us.
It's all so much quieter at the moment and you will get seen very quickly with a baby. Go- good luck x

iwilltaketwoplease · 09/06/2020 22:30

Agree with above, I hope your baby is ok Thanks

Heyheyitsanotherday · 09/06/2020 22:31

Hi. I’m new to posting but had to write. Please ring 111 or go to a&e. My baby was 6 weeks old and had a temp of 37.8. Not too high but I was worried. Literally no other symptoms. Rang 111 and ended up going to a&e (which I thought was not needed and my husband thought it was me being over anxious). Anyway, long story short my DS ended up in high dependency with sepsis unknown cause. He is absolutely fine now but it makes me terrified to think what would have happened if I hadn’t rang when I did. I’m sure your little one will be fine but it’s better to be safe than sorry. I don’t mean to scare you. But trust your instincts 💕 hope everything goes ok.

backseatcookers · 09/06/2020 22:50

Echoing others, give 111 a call my love.

Being a parent of a new baby must be stressful at the best of times let alone with everything going on at the moment plus the concerns you've outlined in your post.

I would call them tonight and then also call your GP tomorrow for advice. Ours are taking emails with pictures attached (for example of the bruise you mentioned) and then doing call backs to discuss and if necessary arrange an appointment.

It's worth it even just to put your mind at rest. Thinking of you Thanks

EmJay19 · 09/06/2020 23:13

When my son was ill at 5 weeks 111 advised see GP next day who said I should have gone to A&E. go to A&E

Badmemorieshouse · 09/06/2020 23:16

Most definitely trust your instincts and seek help from a doctor.
