My 3 month old just isn't right

I have a 14 week old ds who just isn't right. I lost my thermometer so can't take his temperature, but he does feel slightly too warm. He's been whingey crying all day and hasn't stayed awake longer than 45 minutes, just wanting to be rocked to sleep in the sling. Im pretty sure it's not teething bothing him. He's just not right. Would it be over the top to ring the gp tomorrow? Would they even see him if he's potentially got a raised temperature? Probably not related but I'd be intrested to see what anyone thinks of this... He has a small purple bruise on his head but it's not a bruise. I spend 24 hours a day with him and he's definitely not bumped his head in any way. It fades when pressed. Anyone know what it could be?

A&E ASAP!!! It could be nothing serious but why take the risk?! Please take him, I have a 5 month old myself and I would definitely take him with these symptoms

weepingwillow22 · 11/06/2020 21:43

Have you done the glass test to see if the rash disappears under pressure? Phone 111 first if you are worried about going straight to a&e.

Needingsupportplease · 11/06/2020 21:48

Please just go get your baby properly checked!! This was me a couple of months ago. Exact same situation dr told me probs viral and not to worry I ignored her went to a+e a few hours later my baby had sepsis for the 2nd time. Trust your instincts I just knew something wasnt right. I'm sure your baby will be ok but better to be safe, please x

A&E now. Surprised your dr sent you away with such a small baby with a fever with no clear source. That's not good. A&E.

weepingwillow22 · 11/06/2020 22:00

OP I just noticed your comment about bruising as well as the rash. I would really get LO checked out quickly as it does sound similar to meningitis symptoms

Wigglegiggle0520 · 11/06/2020 22:09

Please take him to A&E

Pearpair4 · 11/06/2020 22:11

Please go to A&E now.

If your baby is fine you will not be told off, you will be reassured by a paediatric A&E doctor and will be able to get a good night’s sleep.

If your baby is not fine going to A&E could save his/her life.

With those symptoms I would 100% go.

VioletVerity · 11/06/2020 22:14

OP just another person saying go to A&E! I have a 14 month old and would certainly be there right now.

Do not take a chance and do not worry about 'wasting people's time' you are not. Your baby is tiny and may need urgent help.

Heyheyitsanotherday · 11/06/2020 22:17

Please go to a&e. My baby had no symptoms at all. Apart from a slight temp of 37.8 which with my elder child I wouldn’t have been concerned. I felt like I was wasting the hospitals time and it was the day after we went into lockdown so I was terrified. We ended up in HDU with sepsis. If I hadn’t have gone when I did I dread to think what would have happened. Do NOT wait until morning.

Blackberrythief · 11/06/2020 22:17

Your motherly spidey senses are saying something's wrong so I would go to A&E. your little one is so young still. When my baby lost a lot of weight and we had to see a paediatrician, they said to me do not ever be afraid to contact them if I was ever worried, they would much rather see the baby and give us peace of mind then leave it too late. Please pop to A&E and get your baby checked over, the doctors are great and there are lots of measures in place for the coronavirus.

HarryHarry · 11/06/2020 22:18

Always trust your instincts. Take him to A&E.

Heyheyitsanotherday · 11/06/2020 22:18

Also, every doctor I have ever met has always said that no mother/father is wasting their time taking a child to be checked. They’d rather see a hundred children that are ok than the one that left it too late. Go.

Lockdownseperation · 11/06/2020 22:32

A and E. paediatricians are very worried at the moment that they are not seeing the volume of children they normally see. Please get your baby checked out.

Goostacean · 11/06/2020 22:38

I don't think I can take him to A&E since he only saw a doctor a few hours ago. This is false logic, OP. Doctors can miss things, conditions can worsen rapidly. My father almost died of sepsis a couple of years ago following a 111 call out where the attending doctor refused to call an ambulance. Please take the advice offered here- worst case scenario it’s a wasted trip. The worst case scenario if you don’t go, doesn’t bear thinking about.

a12345b · 11/06/2020 22:41

Second A&E, if its nothing you ll have wasted a few hours, if its something you ll be glad you went! Sorry but i dont rate GP s all that much, i d trust your instincts much more.

YouBoggleMyMind · 11/06/2020 23:03

Just echoing everyone else, please go to A&E. My DS very nearly died at 3 weeks old due to a UTI that caused sepsis. We nearly missed it and he was extremely poorly by the time we got to hospital.

ohfourfoxache · 11/06/2020 23:08

You are not over reacting

Please go to A&E

loveskaka · 11/06/2020 23:10

Pls take him to the hospital and depend bloods

loveskaka · 11/06/2020 23:10

Demand **

Haworthia · 11/06/2020 23:12

“Heat rash” is a terrible diagnosis. The weather is shite (assuming you’re in the U.K.)!

Horehound · 11/06/2020 23:15

Tbf my baby has come out on a rash when he's been hot under a blanket...it isn't necessarily to do with hot weather

Can you post a photo of the mark, op?
If you've just seen a Dr I doubt if be rushing off to a and e either.
How is his feeding going?

GrumpyHoonMain · 11/06/2020 23:16

Go to A&E. a lot of the time Measles presents just like this

MamaLion1319 · 11/06/2020 23:19

Trust your gut, they don't call it maternal instinct for nothing! Any good health practitioner will always agree too. Hope everything is okay x

whatisheupto · 11/06/2020 23:29

OP I used to think hospitals, and certainly A&E were only for people with limbs hanging off and blood gushing out. Not until I had kids did I realise that is not the case at all, and that most people with kids will find themselves there a good few times. It's quite calm, not too unlike a GPs waiting room. Have you been to A&E before? I had to call an ambulance when my DC was 1 and I nearly left it too late as I thought I was over reacting. Did you get a photo of the rash? You could show it to the A &E doctors.

whatisheupto · 11/06/2020 23:32

And by the way 5 different GPs didn't spot the problem with my DC until finally we ended up in hospital and a wonderful paediatrician knew exactly what the problem was.
