My 3 month old just isn't right

CupCupGoose · 09/06/2020 21:50

I have a 14 week old ds who just isn't right. I lost my thermometer so can't take his temperature, but he does feel slightly too warm. He's been whingey crying all day and hasn't stayed awake longer than 45 minutes, just wanting to be rocked to sleep in the sling. Im pretty sure it's not teething bothing him. He's just not right. Would it be over the top to ring the gp tomorrow? Would they even see him if he's potentially got a raised temperature? Probably not related but I'd be intrested to see what anyone thinks of this... He has a small purple bruise on his head but it's not a bruise. I spend 24 hours a day with him and he's definitely not bumped his head in any way. It fades when pressed. Anyone know what it could be?

Get him checked. I took my LO to out of hours last week at it was fine. I called 111 and they arranged an appoinment in a couple of hours. I met the gp in the clinic car park in full ppe and he did all the checks in a seperate room which was cleaned between patients.

How is your little one? Always go with your instincts. Dc was very unwell for about a year & I was almost dismissed but I knew something wasn’t right. My insistence paid off & basically they’d needed stronger antibiotics in the first place. Flowers

Hi sorry for the late update, I've barely been able to put ds down so hadn't got round to replying to you all until now. I was given a gp appointment for today. The gp took his temperature and it was 38.5. I think he actually feels cooler today too. She thinks he might just have an upset stomach because his poos are slightly green. The mark on his head is broken blood vessels, she thinks, but will ring me in a few days to see if they're any better.

Thank you all for your messages and being kind. Do any of you have any tips on getting him to keep calpol down? Every time I give him some he just projectile vomits it straight back up!

Does he take a bottle? My 7yo used to vomit any medicine back up but was fine if we mixed it with 2oz of milk, the doctor said it was fine but time the dose from when she finished the bottle, not the start even though it was only 5/10 minutes. different.

I wouldn’t bother unless he’s unduly uncomfortable. Temperatures serve a function- bacteria and viruses thrive at normal body temperature, but die at raised temperature. It’s the body’s natural defence. Calpol will relieve symptoms, but may stop the recovering quite so quickly.

I used to give calpol at night to make sleep a bit easier, but manage with light clothes etc in the day...

CupCupGoose · 11/06/2020 21:08

Sorry to post again but I just need to talk this through. Ds seemed a but better this morning and actually played on his play mat for a while. This afternoon he developed a rash of small red dots all over his body and head and was screaming the place down. I eventually calmed him Down and he's basically just slept and cried the rest of the day. Every time he wakes up he just wants to go back to sleep again. Took him back to gp who said he's fine and it's just a heat rash. He doesn't have a temperature any more.

I feel like there's something wrong with him though. I don't know if I'm over reacting though.

Call for advice. Your instinct is telling you to do that, just call. Nobody ever minds seeing a tiny baby or indeed a child.

Call them and take the advice given. Thanks

Fatted · 11/06/2020 21:20

If there's a temperature with rash go to A&E.

Mammyof22020 · 11/06/2020 21:22

Call 111 for advice or take baby to A&E.
You know your baby best and us mams know when our babies aren't themselves.
I have called 111 and taken both my children to A&E/GP over the years when they've been unwell. You can never be too careful when it comes to babies. I've never got wrong for taking my children to see someone when they've been ill.

Cheeeeislifenow · 11/06/2020 21:24

Go to a and e don't delay go now op.

CupCupGoose · 11/06/2020 21:25

His temperature is fine now so I don't really understand why he's being like this. I don't think I can take him to A&E since he only saw a doctor a few hours ago. Sorry to shoot down your suggestions. I think I'm over reacting.

Cheeeeislifenow · 11/06/2020 21:26

Seriously please go. No one will think you're wasting time. Your baby doesn't sound well and you sound worried. Op please go.

Cheeeeislifenow · 11/06/2020 21:27

Gp's aren't infallible, they often miss things. No one will tell you you are over reacting.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 11/06/2020 21:28

This afternoon he developed a rash of small red dots all over his body and head and was screaming the place down

Good lord go to A+E. Im an A+E nurse. We wouldnt think you're being OTT for this.

harper30 · 11/06/2020 21:28

I would call 111 and describe all the symptoms and what's been going on the past few days
My DD had a few episodes of things like this when she was a baby, being sleepy, temperature, rash or mottled skin, it always turned out to be a UTI but some occasions were more serious than others, and once we had to stay in hospital for 4 days until it cleared and her temp and heart-rate all calmed down.
Trust your instincts and call 111 and explain all of that an I'm pretty sure they'd send you either to an out of hours gp or a&e

Quartz2208 · 11/06/2020 21:31

GO to A&E they wont mind seeing you to reassure you

DS had scarlet fever really really badly and needed iv antibiotics - for around 18 months after every time he got ill I panicked (and it happened a lot) and everyone was always very sympathetic and happy to see him

I am surprised actually with the GP with those symptoms didnt do anything

GenevaMaybe · 11/06/2020 21:35

A&E go right now.

Minai · 11/06/2020 21:35

I’d go straight to a&e with a rash and a temperature. I was sent to a&e by 111 with my ds1 when he was a few months when he had a rash and temperature. It turned out to be hand foot and mouth and he was fine but you can’t be too careful with little ones.

itsgettingweird · 11/06/2020 21:35

Try general paracetamol.

My ds use to projectile Calpol too!

confusednortherner · 11/06/2020 21:36

Please see someone if you are worried, ds had a rash that spread at 6mths a nurse thought heat rash but got gp to check and she called a ambulance as suspected meningitis. Ds ended up being blue lighted to hospital nearly unconscious and spent a week there on antibiotics .
No one will worry about you wasting time and much better to be safe.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 11/06/2020 21:36

Go to A&E. we ended up there so many times with my DS and they always preferred us to take him in and get checked. Trust your instinct and don’t worry about “wasting” anyone’s time.

itsgettingweird · 11/06/2020 21:37

Sorry hadn't refreshed.

Take to a and e with rash. It could be post viral rash but my concern is the constant need to sleep. Any form of drowsiness and change in alertness should be seen immediately

SpaceDinosaur · 11/06/2020 21:37

A&E now.

Yorkiee · 11/06/2020 21:37

My nephew had hand and foot and it took days for it to cover his whole body.
