My 3 month old just isn't right

CupCupGoose · 09/06/2020 21:50

I have a 14 week old ds who just isn't right. I lost my thermometer so can't take his temperature, but he does feel slightly too warm. He's been whingey crying all day and hasn't stayed awake longer than 45 minutes, just wanting to be rocked to sleep in the sling. Im pretty sure it's not teething bothing him. He's just not right. Would it be over the top to ring the gp tomorrow? Would they even see him if he's potentially got a raised temperature? Probably not related but I'd be intrested to see what anyone thinks of this... He has a small purple bruise on his head but it's not a bruise. I spend 24 hours a day with him and he's definitely not bumped his head in any way. It fades when pressed. Anyone know what it could be?

I really don’t mean to worry you but having just clicked off mumsnet to surf the web. I’ve just read an article (by the evening standard) suggesting that a chill blane type rash may be a symptom of covid, It may co-occur with other symptoms or the symptoms could be consecutive (which got me thinking about your son’s previous high temp). Either way, as a previous a&e nurse poster says attend I’d urge you to. I hope everything is okay with him x

mamasiz · 11/06/2020 23:53

I have always erred on the side of caution with my little one and have gone to a&e if I’m concerned (eg crying continuously, not settling, not keeping feeds down, high temp, rash) as I would rather be be seen by paeds rather than GP under those circumstances. Hope he’s on the mend soon, OP.

CupCupGoose · 12/06/2020 01:43

Sorry again for the late reply. So I rang 111 and they sent out a paramedic. Of course as soon as he got here ds was just lying down carmly being checked. Probably since ds has only seen a few other humans since he's been born! But he had been either trying to go to sleep or crying all afternoon. You couldn't make it up. He said he agreed with heat rash and told me not to bother with 111 as they are always sending out ambulances when people don't need them. He felt ds was absolutely fine. Obviously as soon as he left ds started on off crying and sleeping again.

I've just had to bring him downstairs as his nappy needed changing, he's got diarrhoea. His rash is worse too. I really don't think it's heat rash. It's not raised like heat rash. I've done the glass test and it disappears.

I guess I will just have to see what he's like in the morning.

Op why are you posting you have ignored everyone..bring the baby to a and e. You aren't happy, his rash is worse and now he has diorreah. Just bring him to a and e.

Needingsupportplease · 12/06/2020 02:06

Hope this is a wind up now. You've asked for advice now your just potentially putting your babies life in danger. All the advice points to this COULD be life threatening and NHS says TRUST your instincts.

Lynda07 · 12/06/2020 02:30

It is morning, CupCup. I am glad you sought advice but your baby's symptoms persist, particularly the rash being bad. Please do take him the A&E, you will be seen quickly. You can't take chances with symptoms like that.

kleew1 · 12/06/2020 02:41

My little one had something like this... Let it go on for around 2 weeks, doctor dismissed me. Hospital dismissed me. Eventually I went back and got another doctor who confirmed scarlett fever. I feel so guilty even now I didn't trust my instinct. Just keep calling/seeing your doctor as you know yourself there's something wrong x

joystir59 · 12/06/2020 02:50

Take him to a&e

mylittlesandwich · 12/06/2020 03:04

I don't want to worry you but the reason nobody is suggesting you leave it to the morning is that small babies go downhill fast. Trust your gut, hopefully it's nothing but you'd never get over it if it's something serious and you waited.

weepingwillow22 · 12/06/2020 03:44

Take some videos when your LO is displaying symptoms which you can show to the gp/a&e. As others have said you do need to trust your gut and be persistant, doctors do miss things.

A&E is pretty empty these days and when I took my LO at a similar age they were so helpful.

harper30 · 12/06/2020 08:00

Definitely take pictures and videos to show them, often they look fine when you're seeing the specialist (annoyingly) but I remember the a&e doctor being SHOCKED at how blue and mottled my DD had been a few hours previously in a video, and she said bring her back to a&e immediately if that ever happened again.
But looking at her at that moment she looked normal.
Keep pushing, take him to A&E, push the fact that your instincts are telling you something is wrong and you feel like you're not being taken seriously by the GP/paramedic.
What's the worst thing that will happen if you take him?
What's the worst thing that will happen if you don't?

harper30 · 12/06/2020 08:00

Also I hope you're ok this morning OP

RUOKHon · 12/06/2020 08:05

I would take him to A&E. At 14 weeks old he is still so tiny, you really can’t be too careful.

Never underestimate your instincts as a mother.

yestim · 12/06/2020 08:13

If you are worried at all this morning please take them to A&E. Up to 12 weeks, any temp of 38 or higher gets admitted, bloods, urine checked, lumbar puncture and treated with antibiotics. So 14 weeks with a temp of 38.5 is something that should be taken seriously

KHall84 · 12/06/2020 20:16

@CupCupGoose how is your little boy today ?

MabelChiltern1 · 12/06/2020 21:24

Hope all well 🌸

CupCupGoose · 12/06/2020 21:26

He still isn't himself but is better today. I've still had to hold him most of the day but he hasn't cried as much and has been awake for longer. I spoke to the doctor again today who said to bring him back in Monday if he wasn't better. Hopefully we will both get a bit better sleep tonight. (he's been sleeping in my bed the last few nights) and he will be much better tomorrow.

I'm sorry that some of you felt like i wasn't listening or that I was neglecting my DS by not taking him to A&E, but I really didn't think it was needed. If I felt like he was that bad, I would have taken him, but as he didn't have a temperature anymore, I didn't feel I needed to. He saw 2 doctors and a paramedic.

I do appreciate everyone who took the time to reply to me.

Hi just a thought , could baby have a cows milk allergy ? Ask the doctor if it all carries on , Rash , being sick and green poo are all symptoms ? And also is the bruise mark on the top of nose ? Google "sugar bug" for this see if it's same thing , xx

CupCupGoose · 12/06/2020 22:23

The mark I was talking about isn't on his nose but interestingly, he does have a 'sugar bug' mark on his nose! I just assumed it was some kind of birth mark.

He is breastfed and always has been so I don't think it could be a milk allergy? but weirdly the rash he has looks similar to the ones on Google. And his symptoms match. If it wasn't for the fact he was 3 months old and hadn't any problems before, I'd probably think it could be a milk allergy.

@CupCupGoose if there's dairy in your diet it could well be.

CupCupGoose · 12/06/2020 23:11

I've always eaten dairy though so surely it would have affected him before now?

carexfairex · 12/06/2020 23:14

@Letsallscreamatthesistene

This afternoon he developed a rash of small red dots all over his body and head and was screaming the place down

Good lord go to A+E. Im an A+E nurse. We wouldnt think you're being OTT for this.

He has seen a doctor since then though.
carexfairex · 12/06/2020 23:17

Sorry ignore me. Lots of posts didn't show up when I replied Blush

ashamedNC · 12/06/2020 23:42

He's only a few months old so it's completely possible that symptoms are just starting to show.

christmassooncantwait · 13/06/2020 07:36

I know people who's babies took a while for it to affect them breastfeeding, mine were bottle and it was obvious after couple weeks at most , Try cutting out all dairy from your diet completely for few weeks see if helps and deffo speak to doc again about it x
