Wouldn't we all be a nightmare on a rare ladies only night out?!

SusiS · 04/10/2004 08:08

good morning everybody! hope you all had a reasonable night - ds skipped his 1.30 wakeupcall but still wanted feeding at 3. and woke again at 6 and well that was it grmpf - oops, me thinks he is having a stinky
aww libb: feel for you too. ds is restless lately too. harder to settle him for nighttimesleep. no clue why!! - only a phase
dang! why did i have to give up breastfeeding!! would have helped me with my tummy maybe - although feel already worn out without bf!!
spots: i wished i had a job i could do from home. starting to miss it. using my "adult brain" - what is it you do?

really horrible day here today. grey in black and raining!!!
oh, at the wedding i met a french woman who just had twin girls (9wks) - exchanged phonenrs. and going to meet her - need to expand my social life - and interested in babies

so, who is back to work yet?
does that mean i won't get to see you on here that often anymore??

Egypt · 04/10/2004 10:15

hi all.
seems like we are all going through much of the same thing at the moment then, which is reassuring. (to wean or not, rolling, waking more often, lalaalla)
had a better night - well i did went to bed at 8!. dd woke after an hour of being asleep AGAIN. wouldnt feed and i'm not surprised as she drank gallons at bedtime. had to swing her in the car seat again. oh god, must stop this. i went back to bed with the full intention of getting up when she was properly out of it, to put her in bed, but didnt wake til dh went to the loo and 10. bless her. she woke when i picked her up and wouldnt settle for q a while, and after a feed of course. then we still had the 12, 2, 6, wakings. she must be trained into telling the time. and went through til 8.50am . niiiiiiiiiice

libb, hope you are feeling ok. sounds like a really emotional time at the minute. glad you have your shower! i will send you my other email address.

i started some veggies too saturday. just done a load of butternut squash. never cooked this before, or eaten it. very nice, mmmmmm. made bags of the stuff, but mush get some big icecude trays like you sounds for me susi, as i used bm milk bags. twas not the easiest of tasks! have some sweet potato and papaya to do today. so you cant blend potato then ? makes it more starchy did you say cat? i pushed the bns through a sieve. took ages but is really pureed now. unfortunately the sieve is knackered now as dh keeps putting his pissing golf balls in it in the dishwasher... mmmm

dd has her 3rd set of jabs this morning

SusiS · 04/10/2004 10:46

yes egypt, very reassuring!!! when others tell you of their lo's who sleep through "ever since" - i alwasy think "what am i doing wrong???" - but oh well, have to accept - babies are individuals and ds has his own personality - hope dd is ok after 3rd jab - was the only one ds reacted too! got temperature; but was over in a day or so!
have to get some sweet potatoe; ds likes them! he is not keen on butternut squash ; will try broccoli today
ds being quite difficult today! woke up at 6 (normally 8), stayed up for 3 hours (normally max 2), napped for 40min (normally 2hours), then i "entertained" him for 20 min and now he is back in bed! but what is "normal" with a baby!!! grin - or maybe he is changing his complete routine - again! or it might be teething? he is quite unsettled lately.
since he is asleep now i am going to bake some bread, and possibly a strudel and some purees. - you all have a fab day

I just tried some carrot. not very enthusiastic response - comedy screwed up nose, and she gagged a bit. Does that mean she's not ready, or just that the carrot was a bad option? It's difficult isn't it to get the 'graininess' out of carrot. I tried grating it before I cooked it to make pureeing easier but it stll had a bit of a texture. Shall get some other options while I'm out today. Never mind DD, I LOVE butternut squash... any excuse to have it in the house is welcome.

cat82 · 04/10/2004 11:52

Yikes- today i join the feeding real food world. Our new blender has arrived! We're following the GF weaning plan- anyone else on that? She ate almost all her baby rice today

Libb- Sorry you're having a bit of a tough time at the moment, i'm around if you wanna meet for a chat. Like SusiS said, you are his one and only mummy!

Egypt-hope everything's okay after the jab, everything was absolutly fine with dd after hers, apart from a little bit of a temperature that a drop of calpol sorting quickly, i'm sure it will be the same for you.

I have a stinker of a cold and am really hoping dd doesn't catch it

Hope everyone's okay
xxx

prufrock · 04/10/2004 11:55

We all have horrid colds and copiously snotty noses, but the wonder of Medised enabled dd and ds to get some sleep last night.
Judd and Susi, I know hopw you feel - I'm sick of being asked why ds isn't crawling yet - well that would be because he's only 5 months - he's just the size of a 9 month old. And then they make it worse by asking what I'm feeding him and staring at my (admittedly huge) boobs when I say just me actually.
I am determined to get to 6 months. DS is staring at everything we eat, but has gone back to sleeping through after a couple of weeks of night wakings so he's obviously satisfied. For those of you that are weaning, I bought one of these to cook/blend food for dd and it was brilliant, and you can use the blender bit for non baby food - it's great for finely chopping herbs or small amounts of sauces etc.

prufrock · 04/10/2004 11:57

cat - did GF first time round and dd loved it (and so did I - it made it so simple) after a couple of months of following her suggestions I stopped doing it so strictly, and dd now eats anything and everything

kbaby · 04/10/2004 12:05

cat82 were also doing the gina weaning guide, or at least we will be once I start. I do have the annabel karmel book also for extra recipies.

A tiP for everyone BUY FLEXIBLE ICE CUBE TRAYS. I have just spent 30 mins trying to get the food out of the trays to put in freezer bags, after being so careful with sterilising the spoons, bowls and ice cube trays, I have had to bang them down on the work surface to try and get them out and covering myself in bits of carrot and swede in the process. Dont think they are very sterile now! I think a trip to ikea is needed to get those flexibal rubber ones.

SusiS · 04/10/2004 12:22

ds is on solids a few weeks now. i read a few books on weaning and do a bit of mix
ds never bothered with babyrice! spat it right back at me - i started off with glasses (no special brand; just what i thought he might like foodwise) - and we never ever had 1 spoonfull "only"! now he demolishes one of them smaller glasses (125g) in one go. i do mix it with babyrice; to give it more texture. but the meatyones don't need it anymore! - but i did buy a blender recently and started preparing own purees. "fingers crossed"
yesssss prufrock! doesn't it get annoying? hehe are you on 9months clothes too???
found these "individual ice cubes with lids" somewhere on the net. don't remember though - they looked fab!! icecubes \link{http://www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk/bmsite/BloomingMarvellous/prdgrp/AW04BB632.htm}

SusiS · 04/10/2004 12:22

dang!! what went wrong???

prufrock · 04/10/2004 12:44

kbaby there is NO NEED to sterilize. Honestly - ask any american, they don't even sterilise bottles. And if you do sterilize, don't buy the flexible trays - they melt when you put them in boiling water (I am speaking from bitter personal experience here)

cat82 · 04/10/2004 12:50

ah! kbaby thanks for that tip- i never would have thought!
Susi-i went to that websit, and those trays do look good, thanks.
Ahh, what would i do with mumsnet?!

GeorginaA · 04/10/2004 12:50

SusiS - I was looking at those individual icecube thingies this morning and was very tempted! They do look much more practical.

Both children have colds from hell and woke in the night (not at the same time, of course, oh no... waited until I'd been asleep again for half an hour before the next one would wake)... can't believe how quickly I'd got used to getting a big block of sleep and how incapable I am of coping on reduced sleep today!! I know, I'm pathetic, really I am.

Went back to the doctor today and have got even stronger hydrocortisone cream just for arms and legs. Hope that does the trick - I want to be better now, thanks.

Ds1 spent fifteen minutes entertaining ds2 this morning though, giving him hugs, showing him toys and making him giggle. I am so relieved that he doesn't seem resentful of his younger brother - I was so worried about it while I was pregnant - it's a joy to watch them now, it really is.

prufrock · 04/10/2004 12:56

It is wonderful isn't it GA - dd comes through to our room in the morning and the first thing she says is "where Babin, my go get him?" (grammatical language not being her strong point atm) and when dh is away and I do bath for both she sits on the sofa whilst he has his last feed reading to him (That's a crocodile Babin, snap snap, bite your finger" and stroking his head ever so gently - it makes me melt.
Dose them with medised - dries up the noses and knocks them out - could you ask for a better medicine!

cat82 · 04/10/2004 13:08

where o where can i purchase this miracal that is medised?

xx

GeorginaA · 04/10/2004 13:12

Can medised be used that young then? I thought because it had antihistamine in it you wouldn't be able to use it until piriton age (which is 1 year?)

lou33 · 04/10/2004 13:15
lou33 · 04/10/2004 13:16

Mine says medised infant, from 3m+

GeorginaA · 04/10/2004 13:22

ooo... will add that to my Boots order with dh

NomDePlume · 04/10/2004 13:23

Ducking in to say that I bought medised from Tesco pharmacy last month

GeorginaA · 04/10/2004 13:36

Ta NdP ... it's just that dh is going to Boots in half an hour, whereas I've done my trip out for the day and am knackered

Yes, I am lazy

SusiS · 04/10/2004 15:24

OMG!! i don't believe it! dp just ran into the glassdoor - he said he didn't realise i closed the door and his eyes where on his phone

anyways! ds is really weird lately. so unsettled! very light sleep. he was a bit snotty but almost gone. might be teeths again. his cheeks look a bit red. but could also be carrots

yes, he had selfmade carrots and broccoli earlier! bit of a face with the broccoli but loved carrots. just have to watch if there are any bigger bits in it! - and i also ordered those ind.icecubes

finally ds seems to be asleep! woke again after 10min but i managed to put him back. and now dp needs to go into the loft - well if he wakes him, he is all his

libb · 04/10/2004 15:55

I am going to get me one son from the childminder - have had just one text saying he took 1oz this morning , hopefully he has taken more since. I have mostly wandered around the house, despite all the housework staring at me, feeling like someone has taken a limb away. I couldn't even get on here to bend an ear as the electrician has been finishing the re-wiring - have I mentioned my new shower?! woo-hoo!

I am off to get my son - double woo-hoos and the drinks are on me!

OP posts:
Egypt · 04/10/2004 16:09

ahhh, libb. let us know how he got on. sometimes when people send you messages that are not positive its best not knowing. but then again, if i thought someone looking after dd wouldnt ring me if they had a prob i wouldnt want them to look after her!

have been a busy girl and made dd lots of scrummy first tastes in the freezer. can you freeze papaya and sweet potato and butternut squash. i know some things you can't. like banana. can you carrot?

we have a super super hand blender, but it obv doesnt get the stringy bits out of some vegs so i need to sieve, which is a pain. may look for a mouli. whatever that is .

dd is still asleep outside in her pram. she has been for ages . must be the jabs.

cat82 · 04/10/2004 16:35

Hope he's okay libb, Egypt's right- at least when you don't get texts you know everything's fine.

Just wanted to whinge and say i'm feeling really, really grotty today with my cold, and dd is whingy for no (apparent) reason.

xx
