I'm in potty land , DD decided herself that she no longer wanted nappies on this weekend, she is 2.5, doing well at the moment but has sneaked off twice over the weekend to poo in her knickers! Am using knickers but she is struggling to pull them up and down, esp up, she keeps getting them caught under her buttocks! Let me know how you get on

littleboo · 13/08/2007 12:03

Hi curly wurly

pretty mum i'm in same boat as you DD 2.5yrs and point blankly refusing to go on.

littleboo · 13/08/2007 12:15

My ds2 was refusing when I suggested at the beginning of the weekend, BUT with a bit of extra bribery.... promise of a lazy town space hopper, sweets and stars we've made a start.
Pretty mum, not a good idea if she's not well, try again tomorrow if she's feeling ok, let us know ,will still be here.

Afternoon

I am in toilet training mode this week. Have been gearing up for the week for what seems like months as a good time to try it.

DD is 22 months and has looked pretty ready for a little while - we've been holding back until we are both off work to share the load.

I feel totally stressed already - except now as she in in bed with her nappy on having a nap.

So proud of her - she will sit on the toilet for 5-10 mins at a time, has made her own way there a few times. Has had 3 puddles on the floor - but equally 3 successes on the toilet (granted following a leakage away from the toilet). The fact that she has actually wee'd into the toilet and relaxed herself to do it is brilliant.

Often she takes baby to the toilet and her baby is also wearing big girl pants. Quite often I ask her if baby needs the toilet which means that she has a go while she's there as well. They say something clicks - can't wait for that - guess the rest of today and tommorrow are going to be a bit stressy until it clicks.

We are trying to install a toilet upstairs at the moment - fortunately for toilet training we have a downstairs bathroom - so never too far away!

Good luck to all the little bottoms out there -

hi littleboo, quick update, another poo in her knickers , think this may be a sticking point for potty training! However all other wees in potty and holding wees for a goos hour or so, busy with play doh at moment so will see if that distracts her enough to forget or if she is ok.

littleboo · 13/08/2007 14:36

curlywurly, sounds tricky, but wees seem brill. keep going

Hi littleboo.

I am also potty training, so can i join your thread? IO would be so grateful of some support.
DS1 is 2.8, I have been trying on and off for months, but feel now is the time to crack it, during the summer hols before playgroup etc starts up again.
I am not sure how to approach it. He nearlt always says 'no' if i ask him if he wants to go on his potty, however he does go on it. he also isn't too keen on pants and would prefer to go commando or just run around wearing nothing at all.
However today he started out in a nappy having told me he wanted to wear one, but once he'd done a poo and i came to change it, he siad he wanted to wear pants. and for the rest of the day he's been in pants and only had one accident (that is with me reminding him every now and then, not religiously nagging him every 15 minutes or anything) so I know he is capable, but he gets so absorbed in things sometimes, i think he just doesn't want to tear himself away from whatever he's doing, and that's when we have accidents. I have not used treats or sticker charts, juts lots of praise, when he does wee or poo on his potty.
I have been told by a few people that it will just 'click' with him when he is ready....is that true or do some children need a bit more of a push in the right direction?

Also how quickly are you hoping to get him trained, are you using any particular 'method'?

MoosMa · 13/08/2007 20:10

I've started today too, DD1 is 3 weeks off 2. It started really well, the first 2 wees (with 30 minute reminders from me) went in the potty, and a big poo too. After dinner she said she didn't need the potty, then 5 minutes later she did a huge wee in it but didn't take her knickers off first!

This afternoon has gone rather downhill, she's got through 5 pairs of knickers today and ended the day with a wee on the bathroom floor

I'm in 2 minds whether to keep trying tomorrow or leave it for a week....

mabel1973 · 13/08/2007 20:16

Hi Moosma - she seems very young still, but i think generally girls are earlier than boys, maybe give it another go tommorow and see how she goes

curlywurlycremeegg · 13/08/2007 20:44

Hi Moosma , DD was showing signs of being ready when I was pregnant 9 well before her 2nd birthday) but I had cracking SPD and struggled to get upstairs with her (at that point she wouldn't use a potty) so I just left it. Then she kind of regressed a little when DS2 came along but this weekend she just decided it was time herself! Have to we have had no accidents today except for poos , neither of which ended up in the potty.....just glad I have wooden floors

Broadie · 13/08/2007 20:50

Well the end of a very long day - but considering it was her first ended on a high, in the last hour before bedtime - dd spent at least half of it on the loo, and totted up at least 4 of her 8 stickers in that time. Felt like we had ended on a high, and the Noddy books we keep by the loo seem to be a big hit as well.

So we continue tommorrow and who knows on Wednesday we might venture out for a trip in the car!

Another in potty training mode here. Ds is 3.7 (yes really!!).

Have a potty/trainer seat the works,he has screamed at me for weeks that he doesn't want to use said items nor the toilet as he will fall down the hole.

Finally had enough of pooey nappies, so on Thursday dh took him to the loo, showed him (again for umpteenth time) what to do and bingo he did a wee. We all whooped and danced around like crazy loons. He is actually enjoying going to the toilet now and only wants to use the toilet, not the potty or the toilet seat thingy. He did a massive poo in the loo all by himself last night and was soooooooooo proud.

I was at a friend's house today and he pooed his pants, but hopefully we are on the right track now.

Sorry if this post sounds smug but you would not believe the uphill struggle I have had just to get to this stage.

Good luck to everyone else.
