Hi all

moosma - the only thing i can suggest is leaving the potty in the room with her. My DS doesn't really nap now, but when he was still napping during previous potty training attempts, i left a potty in his room and he did actually get out of bed, wee on his potty and then get back in again and go back to sleep. I think the main thing is to crack it whilst they are awake though, i think going dry at night and during naps comes later.

Chocbiscuits - of course you aren't doing anything wrong, sounds like you just had one of those days.

Well DS1 got on ok at MIL's yesterday, a couple of accidents, but on the whole pretty good.
This morning we have had a big poo on the potty and 2 wee's, no accidents so far! He did a little dribble before he managed to get on his potty, but we decided that it was a good excuse for a new pair of pants, so we ditched Thomas pants for Truck pants
Have a good day everyone!
Big day tommorow...our trip out!

curlywurlycremeegg · 15/08/2007 13:15

All going well on the potty watch front here, DD is 2.5 and is struggling to get knickers up and down so ends up sitting on potty/toilet with the on! Any bright ideas?

littleboo · 15/08/2007 13:19

just thinking it was ok and ds2 come in to say "just weed in my pants mummy" can't help feeling a bit deflated now.
Still new pants (2nd little accident so far this morning).... think its cos I'm not being as attentive and kind of waiting for him..... don't think thats working..... do I go back to more reg timing?

curlywurly - If you're not going anywhere, i would just forget the knickers for the moment, Ds1 doesn't wear his pants all the time, last week he was running round the garden with nothing on and weeing on my flowers!

Well we have had 2 accidents this morning, my fault really, i was pre-occupied making lunch and he'd had a lot of juice and i forgot to remind him. I am finding it quite difficult as DS2 is only 11 months and is constantly pulling the potty over and this morning he kept pulling himself up on DS1's legs whilst he was sat trying to do a poo, he wasn't too impressed...i can't imagine it helps with his concentration!

And relax - dd is now napping - in nappy and I can take my eye off the ball for an hour or so!

Not a bad day actually - all of us are much more relaxed.

We started the day with a trip to Homebase and tesco - Ironically to get bits for our new cloakroom which we are installing and some breadsticks for dd as she has decided that she likes them very much and currently only gets one after a toilet attempt.

Dry there and back - knew a wee was pending and whilst I was have a pee in the bathroom - she was having a wee on the kicthen floor - oops (deflated) not a great start. But then Eureka!! moment - an hour later she said I want wee to me and we went to toilet and she did do wee - and miracles upon miracles did this again just before bed time.

So so far - one accident and 2 breadsticks!

Actually she's been fantastic today - I have to take her to the toilet as she's too short to get up herself and although I have some upturned boxes they are not very stable. She's not too bad at pulling up knickers and pulling down - but I tend to help. Have orderd a stool from mothercare which I hope will be here today which may retain interest and encourage her to go on to toilet on her own without help!

Glad we perservered - today is going very much better - in fact I notice I am going to the toilet more because of toilet training.

Speak later when dd is in bed for the night with afternoon update.

Can I join in?

Ds2 is 2.4 and doing pretty well. Started last week. Loves to copy his big bro (who was clean and dry day and night by 2.9). They are only 21 months apart so play together OK. surprised me a couple of months ago by weeing in the loo just before bathtime so no clothes on - totally unbidden. Since then we've encouraged him at bathtime to do a wee like DS1 and he has been doing it! Last week he even said 'weeweecoming' when he had his nappy on and tried to take it off and then did one in the loo. Decided it was time to go for it propery! ever since we took it off he doesn't want it on at all! It must feel great to have no nappy on!

Has been copying big bro and big bro joins in every time DS2 goes for a wee. Double wees in the loo! Quite funny and splashy DS2 says it's like sword fighting!

Doing amazingly well with the wees. Up til a couple of weeks ago he always had a huge wet nappy as he tends to drink loads. We had to put on a nappy on monday as were going on a long car journey ( 2 hours at least) and he was DRY when we got home!! He tells me 90% of the time now 'weewee coming' and we dash to the loo. He even points it into the water and gives it a shake afterwards. (Just like bigbro!)

HOWEVER poos not quite so good. We make it about half the time at the moment. Getting better every day - i think he gets confused with wind as lots of the time he says 'poo coming' and when we sit him on the loo he pauses, farts a bit and then says 'it gone!!'

Lucky to have plenty of pairs of pants in the house as well as DS1 we have lots of big boy cousins and neighbours donating!!

littleboo · 15/08/2007 14:02

ds now fallen asleep... must be finding it as exhausting as me. have put a towel under him just in case as this is first ever sleep without nappy (and this ones on the sofa!!!)
nice quiet time now, well have the other 2 plus one friend, but don't need to concentrate as much. nice cup of tea!

1 small wee accident this morning, then a big poo on the potty (with knickers still on ) after dinner, other than that, pretty good. Have just been to town and put a nappy on her and she doesn't want to take it off now!

MoosMa · 15/08/2007 17:10

I bought her this today in size 12-18 months as all her skirts/trousers keep falling down without the enormous nappies underneath!

MoosMa · 15/08/2007 17:11

well another day over.
not a good one for us i'm afraid, infact i'm beginning to wonder if this week was a good idea.
my ds is great when i'm taking him every 30-40 mins or so, even went 1.30 but today didn't really seem to know that when he first got the feeling he had to go, also we had quite a bit of the tiny wees all the time thing.
also other 2 are obviously on school hols and desperate for us to go out.
so will have a think overnight and see what tomorrow brings. May be that its better to do when other 2 are back at school and its just the 2 of us.
hope you all had a good day, night

I'm having the same problem with clothes - all dd bottoms are too big - she is nearly 2 and all the 12-18mths stuff are sitting low down on hips! Thinking of getting her some braces!

So back to today. Woke up after nap with a wet and dirty nappy, that was about 2.30 ish, by 4pm had still not gone to toilet - reminded and took there myself - but nothing going. encouraged her to drink more juice - still nothing - sat her on toilet just before dinner at 5.15 and she continued to drink and eat and 15 mins into meal she had an accident on the chair and finished off in the toilet.

15 mins later in the kitchen she had another wee accident - which she didn;t really finish on the toilet.

We went back to dinner table had pudding and afterwards took dd back to toilet - and finally we got a wee and a nice big one at that in the toilet.

So 3 accidents today but more in the toilet than there were accidents. 2 steps forward and 3 back - seems the connection is not comepletely clicked yet - but the best day so far - we had a dry outing and a I want a wee moment and we finished on a high by getting a sticker before bed.

Tommorrow is another day!

Red letter day!!!
Just thinking last night how we weren't getting anywhere and Ds woke up this morning (day 3) and seemed to have been swapped in the night for another model that understands about weeing in the potty! Said 'need a wee-wee" and sat on the potty then got up and asked for a nappy. I did as someone way back suggested and put a nappy in the potty and he really went for it and weed! I then took it out and jumped around and he weed on the potty again...and again...and again...lots of tiny ones (suddenly having seven to celebrate - we were beside ourselves)!!! Got better later in the day and produced slightly larger ones. He wasn't even all that impressed by stickers, just really proud of himself!! . In all we've had ONLY three accidents today and even managed to go to the park (where they'd even had new equipment put in that he hadn't seen before) and make it back dry!!!! One of the three accidents was a poop but I guess we'll get to that later .
Seems to manage to remember as long as I go as well!!! (me drinking a lot!!).
Persevering has been working for me!!! Thanks for everyones support here!! Still a long way to go but we're working on it! .

SusieHughsie · 15/08/2007 23:42

Littleboo, just a few words of encouragement. It took my DS 5 days to recognise that he needed a wee, I also added the incentive of if he told me and we got to the potty/toilet in time he could have a chocolate button. Since then, we havent had one accident (has only been a week).

I know it's hard when you got other children climbing the walls, my DD was very bored by the whole thing.

Good luck, hope tomorrow is more promising.

MrsCoops · 16/08/2007 10:30

Ds didn't do that well at nursery on Tuesday. Seemed to be holding it in and so had a couple of accidents. did a poo when he had a nappy on at nap time.
However yesterday he did really well. Were out for about 3 hours over lunch so put a nappy on then and that's when he did a poo again. No accidents at home though he was saying he needed to do a pee about every 30 minutes sometimes!
He's back at nursery today but will hopefully be better at going to the loo.

MoosMa · 16/08/2007 10:55

Going pretty well today, only 1 accident so far, she was playing at the sink and drinking lots then said "wee on... uh... uh", I think she was confused between wee on potty and wee on chair as she'd stopped herself and was looking for the potty!

littleboo · 16/08/2007 11:39

ok, so still going.... am about to go out , think will put on pull up, not sure, what shall I do???
will be out for some time so prob pull up and potty as well.

Not so good yesterday. I work from home on weds so nanny there. Not sure if DS2 is feeling quite himself as he normally adores her but yesterday he didn;t want to know her. Woudn't let her help him go to the loo. He says he wants a wee really well but then kept hearing him shrieking 'Mummy do it' Had a wee AND poo accident yesterday morning although afternoon was OK.

Last night he seemed also to have cottoned on that if he says 'poo coming' just before I turn the lights out at night he gets to sit on the loo and keep me upstairs ad infinitum. Needless to say no poo arrived! Then had tantrum when I tried to put him to bed which is also very unlike him. No poo in nappy this a.m so I guess it was a ruse to keep me upstairs.

Anyone else has this change in personality?

He could just be teething again and feeling sorry for himself! Or just feeling a bit insecure as he has been seriously clingy all the time recently.

littleboo · 16/08/2007 16:50

well just had to report feeling a bit proud ( might come before a fall but who cares)

Feel really proud of him ( will prob wee now, but feels good and shall keep going.
Oh well little things.......

I'm feeling proud too boo, not quite as impressive as yours, but just after my last post I went in to the living room and found DD putting her skirt back on, she'd taken everything off and weed in her potty all by herself . She's been very good all day, just 3 small accidents where she'd started to wee then stopped herself until she was on a potty/toilet.

I've ordered some training pants for her for when we go out in the car/pushchair until I can trust her fully!

This afternoon I put her to bed, but after a while I went upstairs and she was yelling, so I went in and found her standing naked in her cot - she'd taken off all her clothes and her nappy (they have strong poppers too!) and had weed a tiny bit in her bed. I whizzed her to the toilet where she did an enormous one, but she'd tried so hard to hold it in! I think we might abandon the afternoon snooze from now on!

Broadie · 16/08/2007 19:54

Super day today - dd was at absolute star - I on the other hand was an absolute nightmare and she blinkin well told me so.

Started really well, 7am pee on toilet, 9am pee on toilet then at 10.45 we were upstairs (loo downstairs) I noticed her little wee face and scooped her up and ran downstairs with her and she finished on the toilet, in the space of 1 hour she did 2 more further wee in pants to finish off the in the toilet and 2 more on the toilet - after I noticed she was still fiddling (if you know what I mean). Then bed time - woke up with a little dampness - in nappy - but nothing like normal, but then I put the pressure on her - thinking she must need a wee I kept putting her on the toilet and demanding she did a wee - such a bad mum - feel awful especially since it upset her so much.

Anyway she was clearly upset by it all - super clingy - so we decided to go out and get a change of scenery. I asked dd to try and go to the loo before we went out for a drive I told her we were going 30 mins away from home which would be her next opportunity to go to the loo. Then we drove to B&Q and on arrival I asked if she needed the toilet and she said yes, so we went to the public loo with her seat and she went!! hurrah! then we decided to push our luck and went to have dinner in a pub, where she ate and drank juice and we took her to the loo before we left - she said she didn't want a wee - and I explained that it was 20 minutes before we would get home and she would need to hold it in.

So we get home and she is bone dry, I asked her if she wanted the toilet when she got home and she said no. So we went and had some yoghurt and more juice and started getting ready for bed. I suggested that we say goodnight to noddy on the toilet and see if there was anything to come out before we put her nappy on and the visit produced a wee and a poo! Hurrah!

Such a good day - I think I will cut her some slack tommorrow - but I think she is officially out of nappys!

Oh Dear ME,

Pooed in my Mum's back garden this afternoon and then traipsed it through the house! ( So sorry Mum!! ) .

He usually does a couple of poos a day. The second one of the day came just after I put on his nappy to go to bed tonight! I don't THINK he had been holding it in, as he did look like he was pretty surprised and it was a bit of a squitty one. I think he's teething again as has been off food too!

He was actually SICK on tuesday night which he NEVER is so I'm not sure whether he is just a bit under the weather! He's not been sick at all since then though. Pretty sure the sick and the squitty poo are unrelated. I think he had too much to drink at bedtime.( Unfortunately he wants drinks to settle him. Not sure how we are going to handle this when it comes to trying for dry nights. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it I guess)

Wees 100% in the loo today though! No problem at all here! He can hold it in quite well too as he kept saying 'weewee coming' to me but then not wanting to go to the loo as he and big bro were playing 'hotwheels' and it was a good game.

Should I give him a break and try later?

chocbiscuits · 16/08/2007 21:06

Not so good morning, afternoon went out and exceeded all expectations and very proud of wee in own potty in strange, unknown toilet surroundings and amazing powers of hanging on!

But - we have Poo problems, just hangs on till his pants are on and ceremoniously produces then.

Has got two weeks off nursery, not sure what'll happen when he goes back.

Glad to hear everyone else is doing OK!

mare · 16/08/2007 21:16

Just remembered what DS2 did last thing tonight before bath. He was nude larking around in bedroom while I was running the bath. Turned round to see him very SLOWLY and CAREFULLY carrying a little plastic boat VERY full of wee into the bathroom and tipped it into the potty and then from that into the loo without spilling a drop!

Clever little boy!
