Doing well so far today, had 2 wees in the toilet and 1 in the potty

How's everyone else doing?

mabel1973 · 14/08/2007 09:41

Hi fellow potty trainers!

DS1 has gone off to my MIL's for the day. She's had him 1 day a week since i was pregnant with DS2.
we had an accident 1st thing as he took his nappy off as soon as he got up, and while he was eating his breakfast he wee'd on the chair. But has wee'd on his potty twice since then and is happily wearing his digger pants.
I am just hoping that my mil will be supportive and try and keep the momentum going as she has a bit of a 'it's so much easier to just stick them in a nappy' attitude, which is true, but he can't wear them forever, and this is from someone who was head of a pre-school and had a lot of children in her classes that weren't toilet trained and she used to moan about it!
We are aiming to visit a farm park on thurday with some friends, this will be a real test I think, I am going to be particularly nervous if he hasn't done a poo by the time we set off!

mabel1973 · 14/08/2007 09:42

sounds good Moosma! keep it up!

Forgot to say, we did start badly today. I went to get her out of bed and she's undone her nappy inside her pyjamas and weed in her bed . I think she was a bit too keen!

Fimbo · 14/08/2007 09:59

Ds woke up about 2hrs after I put him to bed saying he needed a poo. He did a wee and then refused to put his bedtime nappy back on. Got up this morning expecting his bed to be soaking but both he and the bed were completely dry.

Dh took him to the loo first thing and he did a massive wee and has been twice since, tbh I think he is enjoying all the praise at the moment. I have this funny feeling he is going to get fed up of going in about week or so......

littleboo · 14/08/2007 10:21

hi to those in potty land, great you're all here.... think it really helps with a bit of encouragement from others.
mabel- no no particular method....... made him sit on pot every 30-40 mins yesterday, plus waring pants........ stickers, praise and sweets !!!!!
only had one accident yesterday ..... but it was such a long day
STILL todays another day as they say
up this morning had big wee in potty
had to put nappy on to go out
just back at 1000 and hadn't wet the nappy at all
straight on potty and small wee...... phoned dad, loads of praise
other children are staring at me with raised eyebrows!!!!
Good luck everyone, keep updating on news

Hi littleboo
are you still using nappies when you go out then?
I have been doing up to now, as have chickened out of taking him out in pants, especially if he hasn't done a poo yet!, but i am not sure if it helps, as i don't think he will learn not to rely on his nappy, so I am determined that this week will be nappy free, even when we leave the house!

littleboo · 14/08/2007 11:11

we only started yesterday and today was the first time we had to go out.
Am planning on trying to spend the week in ( will be stir crazy by friday)
could try with just pants take potty when out ( will probably do that next time)... so nappy free except at night!!!

MoosMa · 14/08/2007 11:58

Had a couple of accidents this morning so I suggested she wears a nappy again but she went crazy "no nappy no nappy no nappy nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!". So I think we'll persevere a bit longer and see how we go...

MrsCoops · 14/08/2007 12:30

DS1 (3.1) had been adamant that he was going to wear nappies forever and would have a major tantrum if I even suggested wearing pants. However yesterday at nursery after his nap he was persuaded to wear pants. Went all afternoon without having a pee and did one in the potty when we got home. Wasn't happy about having to put a nappy on to go to bed!
In pants again this morning and off to nursery with lots of spare clothes!
Think something has suddenly clicked with him.

curlywurlycremeegg · 14/08/2007 12:37

Hi everyone, it seems to be going well for all of you
DD has used potty this morning but we had to go out to visit her nursery (due to start in a few weeks) and I put a nappy on for that. When we got back took the nappy straight off, haven't put knickers on this morning as they kept riding up yesterday and making her sore, will have to takel that one tomorrow, so have left her in a skirt so it's easy for her to get on the potty at the moment. Just asked her if she wanted to use the potty and she pointed to it and to my surprise she had done a poo in it, sorry I know it's sad to be whittering on like this but DS1 was in nappies up to the age of 5 for a poo! Now just got to sort out the nursery....i absolutly hated it when I went to visit , had used it with DS1 a good while ago and really liked it then and just thought it would still be the right choice, but it isn't and everywhere else is obviously fully booked, stupid me!

Broadie · 14/08/2007 12:38

Hello everyone

Nap time comes as such a relief! We got dd out of her nappy this morning and put her in some Noddy pants this morning - she loves Noddy and ok ok they are boys pants - but hell she's not even 2 - she doesn't care that she is not in gender specific pants!

Anyhoo, took her to the toilet 3-4 times after breakfast over the course of about 2 and half hours, on last visit she finally did a wee - super whoops and dancing - big sticker on her, I have 2 stickers, daddy has a sticker and baby doll has a sticker, then we had lunch at 12pm - so about 2 hours after last wee, she did well - knew another wee was due, but wanted to see if she would make her way to the toilet under own steam - she didn't! walked into kitchen and wet floor and Noddy. I could of course taken her to toilet immediately after lunch - but I feel she needs to try and work this out for herself. Took her out of wet pants and put on the toilet - I know its a bit like bolting the door after the horse has bolted!

So nappy is on - she's now in bed and I am hoping that she may have a dry nappy through her nap and then we can start again after lunch. Feel less stressed today - certainly learning more about her toilet habits!

Will send updates when she goes to bed tonight! Tommorrow I think we will venture out of the house, strictly a nappy free outing! Getting cabin fever already - and its blinkin raining!!

littleboo · 14/08/2007 12:40

moosma - well there you go, she obviously likes the pants, no stopping now, don't give up. are you timing her..... I've even got the timer out so I don't forget, . Try every 30-40 mins for now, seems a pain but give it a go.

MrsCoops, I think they say the child is ready when they are and its better not to push.
My ds2 starts a new nursery in sept, and somehow being in nappies doesn't seem " de rigeur" as they say.... thought it was about time I started , my other two were both dry day and night by 2.5. This time purely down to me, its been easy in nappies than trying to make the transition
Anyway going for it now.
Good luck both, keep us posted.
mabel1973 and fimbo - where are you, hows it going??
Calling curlywurly and broadie .... earth to......hows it going for you

littleboo · 14/08/2007 12:48

Hi broadie and curlywurly.... sorry jumped in there
both of you seem to be doing well too.
It is really stressful isn't it, and exhausting, don't know if its mainly mental stress though I suppose.
I'm just hoping ds doesn't start to get bored of the idea by yhe end of the week..... hey ... here's me already jumping ahead and its only tuesday.
know what you mean by a long day yesterday, don't think i've ever watched time go so slowly.
Keeping going

Well next week its my childminders problem!!

My next holiday is end of Oct - so choose this week as I expected it to be a bit warmer - plus the house is under contruction at the moment so if she does pee on the carpet - well you'd not notice!

From Monday she's back in full time childcare - and she will go armed with a collection of knickers and skirts and socks. All the other children are now toilet trained - so hopefully dd will continue to do well as she will get a certain amount of peer pressure!!

sometimes working full time has its advantages!

littleboo...i am around, but DS1 is with my MIL today, i haven't heard anything yet, he usually comes home about 4ish, so i'll let you know how he got on with her, the problem is she plans loads of activities for him ( i think she misses her old job now she is retired so DS1 takes the place of a class of 30 kids!), so he gets very hyped up and will of course be more likely to have accidents, so fingers crossed

MoosMa · 14/08/2007 13:36

I have been reminding her but she keeps refusing, she goes in to full on paddy just at the mention of the potty! She will go in the toilet on request though so I think I shall be getting very fit running up and down the stairs several times a day!

littleboo · 14/08/2007 15:12

their all certainly very strong willed at this age which makes it more difficult especially to get them on a potty when they're determined not too, perserverence

well we've finally finished for the day, large glass of wine in hand!!!!!!
really good day here, just one little accident this evening after he'd had a beaker of milk and I was on the phone, again more me really.
Hope you've all had a goodish day........here's to tomorrow another trip to potty land.
no trips out for us planned until thursday so gearing up for that one.

Well the end of a very weird ol day!

Once again overall we had more successes than accidents - and wait for it - first poo in the loo! hurrah!

We had a hairy time for about 2-3 hours from lunch time onwards - dd pretty much hated the idea of going to the loo. Then after this time elapsed and a few tears and tantrums something changed - she managed to find a way of communicating that she needed the loo - sort of gripping her groin and going oooh in a desperate way. Then we scoop her up and run to the toilet and she actually does a wee - comfortably.

Once again she acheived most of her big girl stickers in the last hours before bed

At least a pattern is emerging. Her cousin came round for an impromptu visit this afternoon and Grandad is coming round tommorrow.

So nearly threw in the towel - glad I perservered - might feel the same way tommorrow - but will feel better if she does another good job and know we perservered. Got to say much happier doing this with other half!

Good luck tommorrow ladies

Hello!
Started trying to potty train yesterday. Today Ds has been specialising in the first half of the wee on the floor, then the second half in the potty. Did a poo as well whilst sitting on potty, but unfortunately was also fully clothed.
Had to go out for more pants and tried putting him in a Pull-up Huggies. He did ask for a potty in the shop but couldn't find one in time.
Convinced I must be doing everything wrong!!!!

JustInCaseShesLooking · 14/08/2007 22:48

I'm so glad I persevered today, thanks to you all for telling me to! We had 2 small accidents this morning, the first one she came running from the other room leaving a trail of drips on the floor but she stopped herself weeing and didn't finish, so 10 minutes later she did the rest on her chair

The rest of the day was brilliant though, we went for the walk in the afternoon and she had a nappy on but it was dry when we got home, then she weed on the toilet before her sleep and woke up with a still-dry nappy

One thing I am having difficulty with, what do you do when they wake up in the afternoon? DD got really upset when I sat her on the toilet after just waking up, but I daren't leave her too long in case she wets herself while she's still sleepy.

MoosMa · 14/08/2007 22:49

Sorry, I name-changed earlier and forgot to change back, that last post was me!

curlywurlycremeegg · 15/08/2007 07:01

Hi everyone, had a hit and miss day yesterday, more hits than misses but two wees on the floor and one sneak of to poo where I can't see her again!

Moosma, not sure what to suggest after afternoon nap as DD doesn't have one, other than wait a bit longer till she seems fully awake, I guess it's all part and parcel of them learning the sensations even if they are sleepy

littleboo · 15/08/2007 08:42

morning ladies
moosma, also not sure about afternoon nap time as we sadly don't have one anymore, but I think also try just leaving a little longer until more fully awake.
chocbiscuits don't think you are doing anything wrong at all, keep going, good luck, maybe by the end of a very long week we might all be celebrating ( heres hoping)
it seems to be with everyone a few steps forward and then back, and at those times you just feel like giving up, BUT i know you've just got to keep going
funny thing is though I've done this twice before now, last one my ds1 is now nearly 8.... but I'd really forgotten just how difficult it is, well more how stressful
well off we go now, first pair of pants.... postman pat to the rescue!!
