Sorry to hear that littleboo, hope it's just a blip.

Things have gone really well today, no accidenta all day and we even managed a nappiless trip to town in the morning and to the swings in the afternoon. She obligingly weed in her potty in Debenhams, the car park, screwifx carpark and at the awings!

She still needs reminding and cajoling a bit but she's getting much better so I hope this continues.

quick update
now on second week, good day today so far, where pants when out as well, armed with travel potty and much persuasion/reminding.
Not sure what would happen if I left ds to his own devices, but not keen to go down that route at the moment.
Really really proud of him, wees and poos on potty.
Hope things are good for everyone else this week

Hello fellow potty people.

Back to work today so first chance to update you all on dd.

Saturday rest of the day after the little accident clear and ok,

took dd out on Sunday and after a small leak followed by I want wee wee - we seem to have turned a corner. She now asks to go to wee wee - although we do remind her every 2 hours or so - and certainly ask her to try and use the loo before a journey in the car.

Today at the childminders - super day - no accidents.

After being dry on Friday and Sat for her nap - we decided to go for in on Sunday and leave nappies at hom e- she fell asleep in the car for an hour and was dry and slept today with no accidents.

So I think we may have cracked it.

Although we now have another problem in that she wakes in the night wanting to go wee wee - rather than doing it in her nappy - trying to encourage her to still use her nappy at night - but I don't think it will be long before she is out of nappies altogether - now she realises she is clean and dry - she likes it.

So please so perservere with it all - its totally worth it and they do get it - it just takes a bit longer with some than for others.

Take care
debs

'ello,
glad to hear that everyones been getting on well! Ds has been managing fine although still bit scared about poos but they are going in the potty!!
I was back at work today (yuk yuk, I wanted to take two weeks off but it was not to be ). Luckily Dh and Ds seem to have got on fine today - one tiny half accident.
Had to get up quite early and wanted to do a wee, although had also weed in night nappy.
Makes no attempt to remove own trousers or pants although I think he could if he wanted!!!

nellieloula · 21/08/2007 10:57

HI everyone - hope you don't mind me joining here. We started yesterday (DS is 2.4) and it isn't going at all well! The good news is that he is sitting on his potty more and more (he would refuse point blank before - but bribery seems to work!) but has had two accidents this morning, mostly my fault for not paying enough attention. He hasn't had a wee for an hour and an half now.....feel shattered already and I know we have a long road ahead of us - I'm 30 wks pg which isn't helping. Thought if I was going to do it before this next one comes, we should crack on. He was showing all signs of readiness and we had a clear week at home with crap weather, so I thought the timing was good. Now I keep thinking he's not as ready as I thought.....maybe I'm rushing it. He tells me when a wee/poo is coming when he has a nappy on, will happily sit on the potty for 10 mins at a time. Maybe I should just persevere and dig deep?? any help and tips really appreciated.

littleboo · 21/08/2007 11:34

hi nellieloula, welcome to the world of potties, I started last week with my ds2 and feel really proud of him
My advice would be.
put pants on all the time ( maybe no trousers around the house)
at the beginning put him on the potty every 30-40 minutes, loads of praise if he goes, reward with sticker chart, One sweet ( button or similar)gradually lengthen this time depending on child.
Keep a chart to show him how well he's doing
I started with nappy on whilst out but have now ventured out without BUT with trusty potty or travel pot always to hand.
Have loads of patience.... I very nearly gave up come wednesday, but think like all of us It is 2 steps forward and one back.
Just keep going.
To me it felt exhausting and come 6pm I was ready for a very large glass of something.
Keep us posted, goodluck

Ds is doing really well. Has definitely cracked the weeing but poos still need some work I think. Did one in his pants on Saturday (but that was his first accident since thursday!). On Sunday I recognised the signs that he needed to poo and he did it in the potty.
However he didn't do a poo at all yesterday and I'm concerned that he might be holding it in when he's at nursery.

littleboo · 21/08/2007 11:36

well done for you Mrs Coops, seem like all off us have made breakthroughs in one way or another,
Also think the support on here has been great, just kinda keeps you going, and reminds you that you're not the only one going through it.

thanks litle boo - I will definitely keep going now. I'm just a bit concerned that he isn't going - I've had him on the potty every 40 mins or so since 9 this morning and nothing. Is that normal? I've also just put him in a nappy for nap time - should I have left it off do you think? thanks for your tips though - really appreciate it. I'll keep you posted.

marge2 · 21/08/2007 12:52

Hi - back on line today. Wees now back to only 99% fine. Took him on long car journey on monday morning so put nappy on UNDER pants - when we got home he was still dry - He managed 2 hours which I thought was great. We needed to pop out to shops in afternoon. Weed before we left so I thought it would be fine. This time he weed in his pants while stuck in the car. I thought he would manage but this time he only lasted an hour

Poos still a bit hit and miss. Sunday in pants - In potty yesterday. I'm at work today and he's at home with Grannie. Keeping my fingers crossed!

My advice is unless it's obvious it's not working and too early once, once you have started to presson with it.

marge2 · 21/08/2007 12:53

Also I think you should put nappies on at nap and sleep times. Dry while asleep comes much later!!

MoosMa · 21/08/2007 14:59

Today is going to be our first go at nappiless afternoon sleep! The last few times I have put a nappy on her but she's taken it off before going to sleep and woken with a dry bed. Perhaps I'll put trainer pants on her just in case...

MoosMa · 21/08/2007 15:45

Oh dear, that didn't go well at all. She started well, she did a really big wee in the toilet before going to bed, then 20 minutes later I heard her calling me so I went up and she'd pooed in her trainer pants

She was quite upset at the time but I think she's forgotten about it now. Try again tomorrow...

littleboo · 21/08/2007 17:55

Good day here today, have been reminding my little one, but several times he's called "I've had a wee" rushed in to find him sitting happily on potty.
have carried on with sticker chart ...its great. been at home all day though .
Think we can say we've officially broken out of nappies ( well except for nights and maybe if unwell or something, but think we're on our way to cracking it)

OP posts:
chocbiscuits · 21/08/2007 21:16

Another good day here today but having loads of difficulty trying to get him to wash his hands afterwards. Even stumped up for blimmin' expensive Kandoo foaming soap which only worked for a few washes.
He just goes off and will only wash hands if dragged kicking and screaming, but I don't want to put him off the potty....

littleboo · 21/08/2007 22:31

not even worrying about hands yet, sorry if that seems bad but, one thing at a time.

OP posts:
MoosMa · 21/08/2007 23:55

I don't do hand washing after using the potty as she doesn't really touch anything, but I do enforce it after going on the toilet as she has her hands all over it. She likes to have soap (shoop!) put on her hands and dry them on Daddy's towel.

littleboo · 22/08/2007 08:13

Have to update this morning...... Had come down with ds2, happily playing with train track, I was making a cup of tea, came back in living room and saw nappy on the floor [shocked].
suddenly saw him sitting on potty, had taken off his own nappy, had a huge wee on potty (Nappy was dry)!!!
How amazing is that. Really really proud

Well done to littleboo's little boy!! Sounds like this little gang is cracking it pretty well!

I really love this age. They seem to grow up SO fast just about now don't they? DS2 is suddenly speaking 'properly', can be reasoned with a little bit, weeing on the loo, learning to ride a bike with stabilisers rather than a trike. He even sat at the table and ate his own lunch at the weekend. ( which is AMAZING for DS2 who is usually a nightmare at mealtimes) everything seems to be happening at once.

littleboo · 22/08/2007 14:44

Marge2 - I totally agree, they are like little sponges soaking up all this info, talking to them is great, and their immaginations are wild.
Best time I reckon, very tiring but really worthwhile.

Damn damn!

Working from home to day ( hence m-netting ) DS, having been clean and dry for two days now, just had a wee accident while playing outside with our 1 day per week nanny. He likes her a lot but possibly either not making himself understood or not brave enough to tell her he wanted a wee. He was OK all this morning with her inside though - even pooed on the loo!

Two steps forward - one step back fairly typical though I suppose.

marge2 · 22/08/2007 20:35

Littleboo - DS2 is SO funny the way he remembers and copies everything! Took him downstairs tonight to say one last final 'nightnight' to Daddy. He said 'Aaaah Football - Good goal - GREAT goal' This was before it even kicked off!!

chocbiscuits · 22/08/2007 22:00

One accident today when Ds was in the company of his friend and mum. Oh dear wee all over the floor. It seemed afterwards that he was scared his friend would leave whilst he was upstairs on the potty...

Nursery is going to be a nightmare!!

marge2 · 22/08/2007 22:50

I bought Kandoo foam for DS1 two years ago when potty trainign him - we still have the same bottle!

Expensive load of totally unnecessary rubbish!!

MoosMa · 23/08/2007 16:14

Yesterday she had her afternoon sleep with a pull up disposable nappy on and woke up with it still dry. Today I put one on her, but when I went to get her I found she had climbed out of her cot (or slipped through the bars, who knows?), taken off her wet nappy, climbed up the shelf and got a new one and put it on, weed in it, taken it off and put another clean one on!

I don't know whether to tell her she's naughty or incredibly clever!
