yes I went and found out about th emiddle names! I am a Claire - lodas of us too

today - hmm
well, one wee in the potty in the morning - huge celebrations, sweets etc.

then it all went downhill
one wee in her pants - which she did tell me about
then she ran out of the room and slammed the door whilst I was feeding DS (she can't open door, handle too high) and then I heard 'mummy, poo, mummy POO'; when I got out the poo was half in, half out, so I stuck her on the loo and we waved goodbye, flushed it, gave her the sweets, etc.

then she spent the rest of the day either sitting on the potty barking orders (book NO OTHER BOOK, book, toys etc.) or throwing mega tantrums at the very suggestion of sitting on it, no more successes and a couple of accidents (both which she told me about AFTER the event)

not sure I'm cut out for this, not helped by feeling so rotten. Is the above a normal first day or are we utterly shite?

fishiejane · 09/07/2007 09:57

that sounds pretty good, at least she is telling you about it and isn't awareness the main aim to start wtih?

i'm being forced into pt by ds who takes his clothes off at every opportunity.

MrsJohnCusack · 09/07/2007 10:19

she's certainly aware, just totally bloody minded - I'm sure she knows what I want her to do and likes subverting it. She is calling wees poos as well which is v.confusing

just another round in what I'm sure is going to be a lifelong battle of wills between two exceptionally stubborn and stroppy females

I think the little seat is helping on the loo BTW, it is rather big for a little child (my DD is actually rather large, but would still look like she was about to fall down it). She is only doing bare bottomed most of the time as she keeps taking her clothes off despite the freezing conditions.

we were going out tomorrow but has been cancelled, so another day at home to try and get a little better, and then suppose I'll have to prepare for accidents when we go out on Wednesday as am too frightened of cod to put her back in a nappy in the daytime...

IntergalacticWalrus · 09/07/2007 11:13

OMG, my DS isn't going to be potty trined becfore he's 18 at thiis rate,. He just Doesn't Get It

My sitting room smells like a urinal

He's already had 3 changes of clothes this morning

No more wees on the loo since Friday

[sigh]

RubberDuck · 09/07/2007 12:19

cod, I suspected as much I'm just so sick of cleaning up after him - it's driving me spare.

I have tried keeping track, but almost as soon as I've sussed it, he changes his pattern.

fedupwasherwoman · 09/07/2007 12:22

Floss

I found that you have to hide the nappies where dh/dp can't find them as they are generally inclined to use them rather than have to clean up after an accident.

Postgraduate news...

ds was dry all day Thurs/Fri and Sat (although we are having to remind/take him to the loo loads more that we used to do) but Sun we were out of routine and away from home for the day and it was a soggy disaster episode (two in fact).

Hopeful that today will be back on track as it seemed that the threat of no trips to the beach until he is dry all day, every day, again had worked. I feel mean withholding the activity he really loves but nothing else was working and school is looming plus he was fully toilet trained at this time last year so I know he can do it.

ELMTREE · 09/07/2007 12:23

i decided to start my DD of 2 years and 3 months. She got one on the potty first thing and we did stickers and the potty dance which she thought was great. I had her naked and kept asking, but when she went to her play room she weed on the floor but came and told me. Then about 15 minutes later she weed on her fabric chair but came and told me. Ive now put her down for her afternoon nap before childcare with a nappy on, but she shouted down to me to tell me she had done a poo, which i have changed and put another nappy on.
Should i carry on?

Aefondkiss · 09/07/2007 12:27

more pees here everywhere but the loo, take ds to the loo, he doesn't pee, two minutes later puddle time whereever he is.... sigh

it is good to know I am not alone

ELMTREE · 09/07/2007 12:28

how old is your little one Aefondkiss?

fishiejane · 09/07/2007 12:30

dunno. try sweeties? where is cod?

shall i go and get a little loo seat or carry on with pot?

fedupwasherwoman · 09/07/2007 12:37

fishiejane, we left potty training so late that ds1's arse was too big for most potties so we used padded looseat inserts and a step.

Potties can result in spilling accidents but at least they can be kept on hand when in the early stages. Loo seats mwne that you have to get to the loo and in the early days it can result in accidents on the way.

hotcrumpets · 09/07/2007 12:42

not wanting to be smug or anything but I think DD might of just got it

took her to the beach yesterday, took the potty with us, she asked for it 5 times and did a wee each time, no accidents, dry knicks all day, although where do you empty a potty outside if there are no drains?

will update if everything goes tits up! good luck everyone

Aefondkiss · 09/07/2007 12:48

hotcrumpets that is fab

ds is 3 elmtree...

more unsuccessful pees and tantrums at going to the loo

ELMTREE · 09/07/2007 12:50

i think i may have to pencil in at least 4 days of doing nothing but simply being at home. No work, no childminder, no outings. Have too much on this week, and like they say you have to be just as ready as the child.

codJane · 09/07/2007 12:53

the not getting t he wees int eh potty is the trianign part of potty trainign!

TutterJane · 09/07/2007 12:54
codJane · 09/07/2007 12:56

TutterJane · 09/07/2007 12:57

can't promise ds will be model pupil but i will be

fishiejane · 09/07/2007 13:10

cod you have not answered any of my questions.

i have got all the equipment including some glow in the dark dinosaurs. shall i start on friday?

JoshandJamie · 09/07/2007 13:17

Cod - Q for you (or anyone else) Haven't read whole thread so sorry if asked previously.

DS is almost 22 months old. We've been potty training since he was 18 months old as he just wanted to do it. But with my first son (who we only trained when he was about 2.5 years) we had a good week at home doing nothing other than potty training. I now don't have that luxury. DS2 goes to nursery twice a week, childminder twice a week and me the rest of the time.

Although he knows when he wants to wee and how to hold it in, he OFTEN just wees wherever and he won't poo on the toilet at all. So unlike my first son, I leave him nappy free at home, but when he goes to the other places, he goes into pull ups. Feel like I never get a good run at it.

So do I just say to hell with it, and chuck away nappies and deal with the consequences (and let nursery / childminder deal with consequences) or do I keep going this slowly slowly approach?

codJane · 09/07/2007 13:19

J and j your potty trainign ahs lasted 6 months?
you arent really odign it
leave him fo a month or two then go codl turkey

codJane · 09/07/2007 13:19

oh and yes of COURSE you chuck aeway nappies
