i must go to meeting in a sec, shall i go to john lewis and buy loo seat or continue with pot? and am i going to do this now or in august? please help meee only one chance to visit shop this week.

JoshandJamie · 09/07/2007 13:28

No not 6 months - we started using the potty when he was 18 months old ( just under 4 months ago) but it wasn't actual 'training'. He just showed signs and we thought, fine, let's get him used to it - but we were going on a big holiday abroad and didn't want to train and then interrupt and then start from scratch.

We've only been doing it more consistently for about a month - but that's been using nappies for the in between bits which I know sucks, but it's really hard when you hand him to someone else and say: here's 20 changes of clothes. knock yourself out.

But I guess it's time. Any thoughts on overcoming poo phobia?

sassy · 09/07/2007 13:36

Just picked dd up from nursery. She has been dry all morning, asking for loo (sprinkling everywhere but aiming down the loo, they said ). However, yet again, she has cacked in her pants.

This afty, we are going to the toy shop to buy a rabbit in dungarees (TM).

Will report back later...

j&j have same prob, ds with childminder 4 days a week. i got a poo in teh pot by promising chocolate for poo, but NOT wee. first poo went on footstool but all others have been presented to me for a sweetie (deemed more special than choc by ds). i seldom give prizes for wee.

just have to try it i suppose. right i will take own advice if it doesn't work try again in august.

Cappuccino · 09/07/2007 14:22

We have graduated I think we have been dry a week

apart from the Wee on Floor disaster yesterday which was entirely down to bleddy dh and his garden enthusiasm

please can you send us our gold plated knickers now?

codJane · 09/07/2007 15:53

welld oen
yes you get a prize

i never had a potty or a loo trianer seat

micromummy · 09/07/2007 16:04

2nd bare-bottomed day and 3 wee-wees already on the floor - one poo in night nappy. DH already in distress. Will squeeze out a drop of wee when taken to toilet but all big ones unpremeditated and on floor .
What cotton training pants does anyone recommend (might restrain the flow a bit)?

ConnorTraceptive · 09/07/2007 16:07

ok we have pants, sweets and appropriate "I've done a wee/poo on the toilet" songs/dance

Sorry to be a bit thick but we are just talking about getting them dry during the day here aren't we? Not throwing out nappies at night yet?

Cappuccino · 09/07/2007 16:50

cannot use toilet no too much fun

is disabled one with rail dd2 far more interested on swinging on it like a monkey

all wees conducted on potty as far away from fun rail as possible

codJane · 09/07/2007 17:11

no night is Another Issue

ConnorTraceptive · 09/07/2007 17:52

oh good

Aefondkiss · 09/07/2007 17:59

well I was thinking we were doing badly then shit happened... saw it coming tried to get ds, who was wearing wellies and boxers outside to sit on potty, he freaked, then I had to shower him, it sounded like I was murdering him, feel like I am failing on my first day, all that crap smeared every where...

it will get easier
it will get easier
it will get easier
it will get easier

shit and wellies not a good combination

Aefondkiss · 10/07/2007 11:00

two successful visits to the loo today, ds is very reluctant to go to the loo, no pants on just now because he gets really upset when they are soggy (once today so far)...

He will sit on the potty but I don't think he realises what it is for yet, trying to do lots of half hour activities

does anyone else hold their ds's penis when they go for a pee?

MrsJohnClaireCusack · 10/07/2007 11:20

hmm well DD only weed twice today which seems a bit weird TBH -think she may still be a bit dehydrated from being sick. One in her pants, one whilst naked, both times I was told after the event

2 poos, both times I was informed during the event and managed to rush her to the loo to finish and then made a huge fuss, sweets etc. - 2nd one, DH was back and he also made a huge fuss.

we'll keep going but I'm not entirely sure she's getting it - think it may click soon though - I hope. And I am doing exactly as cod says. We may even brave going out tomorrow morning nappy free

I am sticking to the rules grimly even thought it's farking irritating and we're all ill

I will not give in - shame she's inherited my stubborn genes though

FlossALump · 10/07/2007 11:31

oNE WEE on potty. Had a bath and seems to have drunk most of the water, so now two huge pees on the floor within fifteen minutes of each other.

sitting on the loo aint happening here, so I suppose if it works I will do what I have to...

fishie · 10/07/2007 12:05

ok have told childminder we go ahead on friday. two wees in pot last night, still no ability to manage pants.

Aefondkiss · 10/07/2007 12:22

I am thinking it is timing rather than training I am doing here, so I take ds to the loo, he may or may not go.... pants get kicked off, I am taking them down (he will not do it himself... yet?)

still we have managed 3 pees, all with me holding his todger, next time I will try not to hold it, but I think he expects it as part of the "routine" today.... still only one soggy pair of pants so far...

JoshandJamie · 10/07/2007 12:57

Well I took the plunge today and sent DS off to childminder in pants. He wet them as he walked through her door. He has many, many spares. He also pooed on our carpet this morning. He has a MAJOR thing about poo. Nothing - including extortionate bribes of chocolate - will convince him to poo on the toilet or potty. He will happily admire his handiwork on the carpet and wants to flush and gets all excited by it - but he just won't go on the loo.

On the plus side, he didn't have a single wee accident this morning before childminders.

I think I might well find childminder has reverted to nappies. Will find out as am about to pick him up.

FlossALump · 10/07/2007 14:00

Used beebies to convince DS sitting on the potty was a good idea...

Asked him if he wanted to use the potty as we finished lunch and he said yes, went straight over and weed! Ok so its only once but am stuck in doing this so you have to allow me some exitement!
