Hi all - I've been told by Mercy to come over after I posted another thread earlier.

It sounds like I'm way behind most of you - just deciding to take the first steps into potty training - target is September when DS1 starts a new nursery. It's not essential, they would take him without it but I'd like him to start as he means to go on and also I hope to have a better chance than nursery workers - I've booked the two weeks before he starts off work with DH so we can really put some time and energy into it.

My main issue that I posted about was that DS1 lies about whether he has done a poo or not - even though we can smell he's done one he insists he hasn't. He had a period last year after a load of antibiotics when he got thrush so I was understanding for a long time that he found change time painful but that was SO long ago now I'm finding it hard to be sympathetic anymore [pulling out hair emoticon]

I'm open to suggestion as to a way forward with him as I feel like I've tried everything!

The good thing is that he takes great enjoyment with doing wees on the potty and I'm wondering about training pants - has anyone used them? Any brands better than others?

hotcrumpets · 06/07/2007 21:19

ok dd did one more poo on potty and then wouldn't get off "no mummy more poo more poo" but again she didn't have any knickers on cause she had just got out the shower

but only one pair of knickers being washed tonight compared with the 7 odd yesterday

phew

Still doing well here. Think we will need a dungaree-clad rabbit or summat soon.

ok we started in the afternoon today (am in NZ for the unititated) as I was out on my Saturday toddler free jaunt round the shops with DS before that, and DH refuses to be involved (helpful)

decided to use the loo (with smaller seat) on it. New pants went down a treat but I regret to say we have had no action on the loo, just 2 wees in her pants. But at least I got her to sit on the loo every half hour which is a lot better than I thought it might be - she seemed quite interested really.

so will make renewed effort tomorrow and at some point she's surely got to wee on the loo and I am primed to go crayzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeee and armed with a fine selection of radioactively coloured sweets as rewards

IntergalacticWalrus · 07/07/2007 11:47

Oh FGS.

This toilet traing is shite (no pun inteneded)

after wee on the loo trimph yestarday, there hasn't been anything and DS is refusing to go on the lo again.

My sitting room stinks of piss

theStallionOfSensibleness · 07/07/2007 13:05

IGW

how old?
wel let him wee in his pants then and tlel him every time he wont fgo to the loo hat YOu are oging to eat his sweet.
that may piss him off enough to go.

he is a bugger isnt he

Cappuccino · 07/07/2007 17:22

oh we have been dry all day and we have been out all day at a festival

tho it was dh who can take the praise as I was working

bought new knickers age 2-3 for her they are massive they would be big on my six year old

we couldn't stop laughing at her as she ran about in them this morning they look like a loincloth

FlossALump · 07/07/2007 19:20

Completely unsuccessful day today. DP at home with DS this morning, states no wees despite nappy off for 2/3hrs. Then he put nappy on and brought Ds into town to meet me from work... which I was a bit annoyed about TBH! We had an episode this afternoon where DS was desperately trying to get to potty so I went over, pulled pants down and a lovely poo rolled out and went splat on my laminate...

MrsJohnCusack · 08/07/2007 00:25

we have had to abandon it today as DD was sick all night (including ON MY HEAD just as she'd finally fallen asleep in my bad). Am on my third load of washing for the day and feel like the living dead as when I'd got her settled at 5am DS woke for a feed and then wouldn't settle so I dozed sitting up holding him. will start again when she's feeling better and caught upon some sleep

Bumping for Elmtree

FlossALump · 08/07/2007 08:46

Oh MJC - poor you! Bet that is an experience you won't forget! Hope DD is better soon.

ds isn't up yet, had a late evening last night. He did however, after promises of sickers, chocolate and a phone call to Grandma (the clincher!) wee for me on the potty. And then again on my bedroom floor...

Wheelybug · 08/07/2007 09:52

Looks like I'm in too - had planned to start in two weeks when all our usual activities stop for the summer but dd and I were talking about it this morning and she declared she wanted to wear pants. Am a bit scared !! Will see what happens - doesn't help I have loads of people coming round for afternoon tea this afternoon so need to get on and do stuff but have set cooker timer o remind me to take her to loo. HELP !!!!

lissie · 08/07/2007 10:15

hi, planning on training ds (2.3) in the summer hols so he's dry to go back to nursery (instead of 1 morning it'll be 3) and im scared. he's showing signs, we got a wee on the potty at MiLs and he takes his nappy off now now if he needs a poo. should i start early or try to hang on?

Wheelybug · 08/07/2007 10:18

dd has decided to go back to nappies so, given that today isn't a good day and this week isn't a good week (out lots) I have decided to wait until 2 weeks time when we can properly concentrate (I think dd was just being lazy because she didn't want to use a potty so with a bit of concentration on my behalf it might be ok...... maybe....), so Lissie, I'll be starting in the summer hols if you want a buddy !!

Cappuccino · 08/07/2007 10:19

am concerned tbh about dd2 in garden

dh preoccupied with gardening

am doing online shop hope patio is not piddled on when I get back out there

lissie · 08/07/2007 10:20

oooh yes please!

Cappuccino · 08/07/2007 11:34

as I predicted

dd2 ran in and weed all over the toilet floor

good for her it was her idea she just couldn't get her pants down fast enough

bad looks for dh

codJane · 08/07/2007 20:15

RIGHT OYU LOT YOU CANT SAY WHEELYBUG OH I DECIDED OT GO BACK TO NAPPIES
NOT IS A ONE TIME ONY DECISION
YOU SLACKERS CAN FARK ORF

Wheelybug · 08/07/2007 20:17

Well, I hadn't intended to start for 2 weeks as I had a house full today and out all day tomorrow and most of rest of week so it just wasn't a good time but when she appeared interested I thought I'd see how we'd go. I will start in earnest on 23 July and there WILL be NO going back then as I have 4 weeks to crack it before we get on 3.5 hour flight to greece.

teafortwoandtwofortea · 08/07/2007 22:05

Wheelybug - I'm the same stage of 'pre-potty training' with DS1. Not easy is it, not sure if this thread is helping with MJC's having been sicked on and poor cappucino's DD - hope my DH pulls his socks up when we take the plunge. At the moment his enthusiasm lasts until about 9.30am then wilts somewhat as the day progresses

DS1 has done VERY well today though having produced his 2nd poo whilst sat on the potty. I am very proud mum , especially as my mother told me that it would be ages before that happened...

fishiejane · 08/07/2007 22:12

possible dim question here, but what happens at night? no nappy ever again REALLY? and if nappy on at bedtime then when off in morning, straight away on waking or when getting dressed?

RubberDuck · 08/07/2007 22:24

COD! Help me.

Ds2 is STILL pooing in his pants after being dry for a while now. It's driving me nuts. Sticker charts, praise, stories about Sneaky Poo, (and even one day where I lost it and shouted ) all seem to make no difference whatsoever.

I think he thinks its a game. He's aware of when he does it, I'm sure, as he squats to do it.

Strategies and miraculous solutions please.

MrsJohnCusack · 08/07/2007 22:56

so we are starting again today, even though I feel shocking as was also sick last night - must have got DD's bug

have changed to potty in living room for now as a) it's the warmest room in the house - it's -4 here at the moment and no central heating and b) she can watch TV to keep her sitting there. I don't think she's feeling great still but we may as well press on

and why is everyone JAne? Fishie, I am presuming we're not including at night for the moment. I'm certainly not - bad enough cleaning up sick infested beds, I'm not cleaning up wee as well

Aefondkiss · 08/07/2007 23:00

but joining you all in the morning with ds... there is no such thing as a "good" time to potty train is there?

and my ds has a speech delay, but I am just going to give it a go... no sweets here but I might just tell him I will tickle him every time he goes to the loo... or I can make dh go on a sweet run tomorrow before he goes to work... I want to know if he should give up night nappies at the same time... ?

fishiejane · 09/07/2007 09:04

mrsjc we are ones with jane asmiddle name. people of a certain age, when there were only about three names available it would seem, there are squillions of us.

i am really keen to get ds out of nappies, he is 2.3 and very reliable potty user. he is with childminder 4 days a week, so i suppose aim to do it over the weekend with me. questions:

  1. is three days too short a time to crack it? i've got 2.5 weeks off in august and planned to do it then, but he is doing so well by himself it seems a shame to wait. should i just get on with it, possibly badly, or do it properly in 6 weeks?
  2. he is fine bare bottomed but cannot cope with pants/trousers, does this mean it is too early or are more bribes needed?
  3. he scared of falling down loo would one of those little seats help? he is quite slim so i see his point.
