oh no, he doesn't need congratulating.. we haven't achieved anything

the wee's were so small, maybe a thimble or 2. i've just put a nappy on for him to go to bed and his stomach was hard where he's held it in all pm (i know how much he's drunk, definitely more than a thimble full!) and he filled the nappy straight away

suppose he'll do the poo he's held onto all day too in a minute!

i was hoping he would see what he'd done and want to do it again.. he even refused the chcolate, he was so upset with it all

i'm inept at this - definitely

AbbyLou · 24/07/2007 19:12

Well day one is over. We had 3 wee accidents, one poo accident and a couple of dribbles. All the rest of the wees were on the potty or in the toilet. He did really well at times but seems to do a tiny dribble in the potty, get off and then wee everywhere a few minutes later. Never mind, onwards and upwards. I just hope tomorrow is nice weather too as I only had one accident to clean up inside!

Wheelybug · 24/07/2007 19:49

saralou - we can be inept together . Today's total here is 4 wee accidents and 2 poo accident. No successes.

I will try tomorrow though even if it sends me doolally (which I really think it might).

i think ds is potty training me as i am getting better at knowing when he needs to go and avoiding an accident. his favourite words are "DON'T need a wee wee now"; sadly frequently proven to be a fib by the puddle round his feet...think he means "can't be bothered to go to the toilet now".
only 2 pairs wet pants today and lots of wees in toilet + first poo in appropriate venue (previously prefered the windowsill), but think that is down to me being more potty trained...
good luck to all fellow wee wee moppers

AbbyLou · 25/07/2007 10:58

2 accidents already today despite being taken every half hour! Both wees, one big, one small and both almost immediately after he's done a smaller wee on the potty. He doesn't seem to be emptying his bladder all at once. We've tried counting, singing, stories, tv but he still gets fed up after a few minutes. I think he really is trying to go but I don't want him to hurt himself by straining. No poo anywhere yet today which is very unusual for him!

AbbyLou · 25/07/2007 15:03

Add one poo accident and another small wee one. The problem we have is that ds has never done a solid poo in his life (sorry if tmi) and the mess it makes is awful. You can't get the pants off without covering him in it. I'm getting through more wipes than when he was in nappies. Anyone else got this problem, or any advice on what to do about it?
Oh god he has fallen asleep on the sofa wearing pants! Oh well, we'll see what state he's in when he wakes up!!

RudyVonLasagne · 25/07/2007 15:27

ok - have sort of rejoined after yesterday's lapse.

DS has weed on the floor x2, pooed in his pants x1 and, get this, has weed x2 in the potty, but with his pants on. Is this a Good Thing ? I still had a wet patch the first time as he then hoofed the potty all over the carpet.

I have put a nappy back on this afto, and thank the lord I did, as he did the most horrendous poo imaginable. I shudder to think what would have happened sans nappy...

I'm not cut out for this cold turkey malarkey. I am Inept.

AbbyLou · 25/07/2007 15:30

This is the worst part of parenting so far I think Rudy! Ds has been asleep on sofa now for 45 minutes and I'm dreading the state his clothes will be in when he wakes!

AbbyLou · 25/07/2007 15:42

Oh my god, he woke up and he was dry. Cue lots of loony jumping around and 2 Smarties! He sat on the potty and has only done a tiny wee so I'm expecting a flood on the carpet any minute.

Wheelybug · 25/07/2007 15:52

I agree Abbylou - a real low point in my parenting life so far.

No successes so far here today but she didn't have an accident till 3.15 ! So woke up dry, had a wee in nappy before we put pants on and then dry till 3.15, then a poo in pants swiftly followed by a wee.

My mum has come up for day to give me some help and dd is at least trying for her although only in the spare room ensuite which is 2 floors up (even though we have loos on the ground floor and first floor !).

RudyVonLasagne · 25/07/2007 16:18

Yep worst part deffo Abbylou. My ds has suffered from constipation since a baby and we are gradually getting it under control with Movicol, but a side effect is that there is the occasional shock like the one he produced today. I couldn't hack that all over the carpet !

Nice to know someone else is the same boat though...

Wheelybug · 25/07/2007 17:13

yeah !! dd did a wee in the toilet - she wants no potty and no special seat, just the toilet which is a good thing I think. However, the wee was with my mum who has gone home now and it seems that I've made the problem by getting into this big battle with her trying to get her to try lots which clearly hasn't worked with her as she is so stubborn so.... I need to learn to relax I think.....

sigh sigh sigh

AbbyLou · 25/07/2007 18:25

This sounds awful but does anyone else feel a huge sense of relief when the end of the day comes and you can put the bedtime nappy on? I feel like I'm counting down to bath time. We have ordered one of those potty seats today as ds seems to find the potty so uncomfortable. He is perfectly happy to sit on it but just cries because it hurts him.

saralou · 25/07/2007 19:56

well done wheelybugs dd!!

yes i'm with you abbylou! although i got a day off today, me at work ds1 at nursery!! he didn't do much better at nursey!!

thinking of wimping out and waiting a couple of weeks...he's moving up a group in 2 weeks, they do the whole toilet thing up their... maybe it will help seeing others do it!!??????????

(by that theory ds2 will be so much easier... won't he????????????)

mazzystar · 25/07/2007 20:23

the first three or four days are totally grimola

but have to say now at day 10 its lots better. lots and lots. had a bit of a breakthrough - asked to go twice for wee, once for poo. no accidents but a near miss in attempting a standing up wee in toilet

i deffo think peer group pressure helps/encourages them. also was a sap and bought a copy of that india knight book - the baby, and DS delighted with it - there's a picture of a little boy on the kazi

Wheelybug · 25/07/2007 20:26

phew dd in bed now .... and relax.... well, no more successes but she did at least try on the toilet with me (in the guest room ensuite on the top floor - it will get me fit at least !). She had a last accident whilst brushing her teeth and I made it worse by scooping her up and trying to hold her over the toilet, cue much screaming and struggling, then she got down and slipped over in her puddle of wee whacking her head on the floor. So I gave her new angelina ballerina pyjamas to distract her (which were really waiting for when she'd been a bit more successful but thought a distraction from the incident might be best).

Where's the wine...

Abby - dd really doesn't like potties either - can't say I blame them !

Sara - seeing others may help, the children I know of that have potty trained early have been those who are at nursery and see all the big children doing it.

Wheelybug · 25/07/2007 20:27

mazzy - glad to hear day 10 is better.... I can but dream...

I've been really good Cod, night time nappy hasn't gone on until after bath which was at normal time. Day three here we come!

Aefondkiss · 25/07/2007 20:47

pee success

no poo (after two weeks) on target

Biglips · 25/07/2007 20:52

well the piddle pads arrived this afternoon so it will be no more pullups - HOORAY!!

Yesterday we went out to a store for over half an hour, DD asked me for the toilet cos she only had her knickers on. i was really praying that she didnt wee-ed her carseat on the way there and back home from the store.

SkittlesAreFruitGroup · 26/07/2007 02:15

Joining in the fun! DS is 2.9, we are on day 17. Lurked a bit on here for advice from the guru (thanks cod!), but with the spectacularly bad response from our CM (I don't want my carpet wet, send nappies please), I've come on in need of support and hugs

DS just a trooper at going when I ask, started with the every 20 minutes biz, and this resulted in meltdown from all parties, so revised to hourly status check, much joy resulted, although is only going when prompted. Am using Thomas the T.E playing cards as incentives for when he tells me he wants the potty - working a bit, but with set back from sensitive CM's disgust at accidents Mummy is laying on the bribes with renewed vigour.

Loving the stories of similar probs and joys - keep smiling (with the mop in one hand, a gin in the other)

saralou · 26/07/2007 09:20

well progress has been made... by dp that is!! i've come downstairs this morning and the nappy is off (it's a first, the man is obsessed with sticking nappies on his arse!!)

so far no pees whatsoever!!

i'm gonna chill today... who cares if he pees on the floor, at least he'll be getting used to not peeing in a nappy!!

'tis my mantra for the day ahead!!

AbbyLou · 26/07/2007 21:15

Dare I say I think he's slowly getting the hang of wees. Poos are a different matter entirely. Too tiny rabbit droppings on target, all others not. It's so wearing!

GreatGooglyMoogly · 26/07/2007 21:37

Hello, we are on day 1 of training DS1(3.3). This morning we started off bare-bottomed in the garden and it wasn't long before we had a poo in the playhouse. DS2 (18 mths) had walked in it before I could get there so I had to clean his sandals, remove the poo and move the playhouse! I put DS1 on the loo (with training seat and step) to see if he had finished but he panicked so I decided to try the potty for the rest of the day. He then did a wee in the playhouse, so had to move the playhouse again. We came inside while I made lunch and I had him sit on his potty in the kitchen with me and he did a wee in it! We told Daddy on the phone and he got a smartie. He has sat on the potty since but not produced anything and he went to bed for a nap bare-bottomed on a waterproof sheet with the potty in his room in case he needs to go. He doesn't seem to have any awareness of needing to go/ going or any control plus he doesn't care about wet or soiled nappies but we are on holiday, it is Summer and he is quite old so I really want to see if we can do this!
