Is it wine o' clock yet ?

Someone tell me there'll be light at the end of the tunnel soon...

Since last week end, we decided for our DD 2 yrs old to start potty training her. I took her shopping to ASDA for cheap panties.. and made it a very special trip, she chose the cutest little pants. SHe had few little accident to start with but very quickly got the message... we never made any big OH NO when accidents occured and gave her the biggest encouragement when she asked for her potty and did wee or poo in the potty. We read her this following book when she sits on the potty www.pottytrainingstuff.com/wantpotty.htm.. She loves it..
i took her without a nappy on to the nursery last week, and they were kind enough to follow it up... and this week end, she didn't have any accidents and nearly dry nappy at nap and night time!!! She always wore cloth nappies since birth so maybe she had enough of wet bum all the time!!! And for me to only have to wash little panties and/or trousers, skirts makes a big difference than to have to wash cloth nappies (and dry them without access to a dryer...)

My DD who is 2.9yrs old. She was ready to not have any pull ups on during the day IN the house (after weeks of asking her to try it out but she was having a meltdown!!)....so this had been going for the past 4/5 weeks now and we've nipped out for half an hour with just knickers on - no pull ups - and came back with a dry bum - done this twice.

NOW im running out of pull ups (got 3 left) and no nappies left....do i go completely cold turkey and dont bother pullups?? and just use nappies for naps and bedtimes??

Hi Biglips, for our DD we bought this:www.koolsun.co.uk/acatalog/The_Piddle_Pad.html, so anywhere we went last week, we put the Piddle Pad in the pushchair, car, so for longer journey, we didn't worry about little accidents... your DD is doing well and if it was me, I would go Cold Turkey, it worked for our DD.
GOOD LUCK...

Biglips · 23/07/2007 16:32

StrangelyBzar · 23/07/2007 18:22

Hi folks
Isn't potty training fun!
Our DS (2 and a half) has suddenly, it would seem, grasped the concept. We decided, since DP has two days off, to really give it a go this weekend, giving us 4 days to focus on training.
Our DD (7) is fantastic with helping out. We have gone with the sticker reward and our DD rushes to fetch the stickers and album to give to DS upon a successful "potage". It's lovely. We are all involved!
DS is doing really well. It seems we just had to wait for the right time. I am so pleased - we have had dry "Noddies" all day today, and all day yesterday. Thank you to eveyone who has contributed to ideas for PT. It has been very different with our DS. DD pretty much did it by herself, all those years ago. I think we may have bought our last box of Pampers! Hurrah!

hifi · 23/07/2007 18:42

started dd sunday, cold turkey, one turd, 3 wees on rug(now folded out of the way) 3 wees in potty. today she poured the contents of her potty in the bath, whilst i was in it! 4 wees in potty, sitting on loo with child seat but no action. doesnt seem to want to do poo outside nappy today.tried pants this morning but she wet them, should i keep off for a while, any ideas on time frame totry pants again?

mazzystar · 23/07/2007 21:20

hifi - hope potty contents were the liquid variety when they landed on you. we have just carried on putting pants on but it went vv quickly from 12 soggy pairs to none or just one.

we have had no accidents today - yee hah
and ds seems to now know if he needs to go or not when asked - will get the hump if I try to take him but he doesn't need to but will go obligingly if he does.

i cannot imagine a time in the near future when wee will not be one of the 6 things on my mind.

hifi · 23/07/2007 21:48

liquid thank god. my dd cant pull her pants down on her own, shall i just csarry on anyway?

mazzystar · 23/07/2007 22:07

phew .
she will learn how to do pants quickly enough. i have to halp ds with trickier trousers. but he is catching on

AbbyLou · 24/07/2007 07:47

Well to day is the day for us. Ds will be back around 11ish and then it's nappy off and panys on. I hreally hope he gets it this time. We tried once before in February and he just had no idea so we waited until now - bit older, 6 weeks off, nice weather (!) and all that.

RudyVonLasagne · 24/07/2007 11:42

Have had enough after 2 days. ds on toilet for 30 mins - I know he wants to go as dribbling wee and he hasn't been properly since we got up. Finally take him off and he promptly does a massive horse style piss all over the carpet and throws a wobbly as I try and get him on the potty for the final bit of it...

...he is just not ready, my nerves are in tatters and I'm off to find something to calm myself (ideally a large voddy and a spliff !). Good luck all and I may revisit in a few months time.

hifi · 24/07/2007 13:17

just been to shops and back, no accidents although had to get portable potty out, no action though, i think she just wanted to try it.baught biodegradable nappy sacks for portapotty, cheaper than mothercare ones. at least got out of house, getting cabin fever.

saralou · 24/07/2007 13:25

i think i might join in with this now!!

so far today i have had one pee on the floor, none in the potty!

he's busting to go and keeps telling me he wants to go, but when he sits... nothing!!

Gobbledigook · 24/07/2007 13:29

I'm taking ds3's nappies off on Saturday and that's it. He will be 35 months old so I'm not leaving it any longer.

Wheelybug · 24/07/2007 13:56

ok advice required -

started dd (2 1/2) with pants on yesterday at about lunchtime (as we were out yesterday morning at unavoidable hospital appt) - yesterday we got 1 poo in potty along with 2 wee accidents and much refusal to sit on potty or toilet despite many bribes. Today, woke up dry (has been doing so for a couple of weeks) and we've had 1 wee accident and 2 poos in pants and many many refusals to sit on potty or toilet. She seems to be able to hold wee for a long time.

Is refusal to sit on potty/toilet a sign she's not ready - she is incredibly stubborn and to be fair she did have friends round this morning so obviously wasn't concentrating.

Am thinking she is physically ready but just awkward so I need to persevere ?? What do others think please ??

Aefondkiss · 24/07/2007 16:54

wheelybug, I think if you are determined, then you should start, your dd has bladder control, if you have time and patience, choc buttons or equivelant, stickers star prize for dry pants and all tries on target... then give it a go..

my dd found it much easier to get the hang of it than ds... who is good at dry pants, but has not got a poo on target in a fortnight of trying...still won't ask to go but is less stubborn about loo visits...he is also dry at night, if we put a pull up on him he doesn't wet it either...

still apart from the stress it is great being without nappies

saralou · 24/07/2007 16:59

wheelybug, ds1 is the same... i feel like i'm torturing him in some manner.

still, 2 small wees in the potty ths pm

Wheelybug · 24/07/2007 17:07

Thanks both - trying the sticker chart and choc buttons line but doesn't seem to be working although if only she could get one on target (had one yesterday) she would see the reward etc but however many times I tell her if she gets it in the potty she can go and buy an ice cream it doesn't seem to work.

THis afternoon 2 wee accidents - 1 she did and then wouldn't talk or listen to me so she knew she had 'done wrong' (I know its not wrong but YKWIM) and the second one I hadn't realise she'd done it as it was out in the conservatory and she came and told me (I'm not sure if thats a good thing or a bad thing).

My mum has advised I don't do the trying to get her to sit on the potty regularly as this seems to be making her more determined not to use it and getting me worked up so am trying just gently reminding her ever so often and then letitng her have accidents and seeing if she twigs of her own accord....

So, no successes today....and a v. frazzled wheely. Will give it this week as think I need to give it a proper try and if no better by weekend will give up. It makes me feel so sad though cos she really wants to have ballet lessons and she can't really do that in a nappy which I keep telling her ...... sigh sigh sigh.

Wheelybug · 24/07/2007 17:08

saralou -well done to your ds btw.
