Dolbear I never had a routine, just did as you do and lobbed the food and milk in when they were hungry. but in retrospect that is about the times it happened.
and don't worry if ds is not keen on solids, my dd3 is still on just milk after not being interested in solids, so are several others of the april babies here. they will all be fine without solids, if he's not interested yet it doesn't matter. he will be soon.

peanuts - years ago I taught primary health care in Kenya (student voluntary thing) and peanuts were one of the things which was always pushed as a good food - vitamins, protein, good oils. so it's hard for me not to see peanuts as good. especially for veggie kids. but we have no allergies in our families. and the good thing about peanut allergies is it's very immediate and obvious, so you'd know if they had it.

dolbear, DS is 20 weeks tomorrow and has both his bottom teeth...It may be teething for sure!

hewlettsdaughter · 15/09/2004 11:38

Another teething baby here - it's one of my dd's top teeth which seems to be trying to come through first.
I just engaged a childminder this morning! Feel relieved that it's sorted (although sad at the prospect of leaving her with someone else). DD will start to go there from the middle of Oct. Just got to get her to take a bottle or a cup now...

Helloooo. Hi dolbear, I wouldn't worry about a routine. I know I witter on and on here but that's largely due to the fact I have been trying to deal with putting dd into nursery so young. Nursery is doing a better job of organising her than I ever was. Dd's nursery nurse seems to beable to read her cues much better than I ever did so she is falling into a routine with them really quickly.
When it comes down to it, your baby is happy, many aren't. For that alone I should be grateful The nursery staff call her "Smiler" I chuffed to bits.

hewlettsdaughter · 15/09/2004 12:55

MrsD, that's great, I'm glad it's working out

MrsDoolittle · 15/09/2004 14:33

Thanks HD So am I!

handlemecarefully · 15/09/2004 22:31

Mrs D - my ds has a cold too at the moment and its also mucked up his routine and appetite too, so you are not alone there. He is 100% bottlefed now (has been for around 4-6 weeks) and typically takes 32 fl oz 24 hours, but is hovering around 20-25 fl oz at the moment.

My mum is staying at my house at the moment (she will be looking after baby ds and dd when we go to Rome) and she got up with baby ds this morning (bliss - a tad more sleep). Apparently when she went in to him this morning he gave her a quizzical look as if to say "you're not my mum", which made me feel quite chuffed really...because at this age they seem quite undiscriminating and seem to switch on their smiles for virtually anybody

handlemecarefully · 15/09/2004 22:33

I've just read my post and its sloppy english (I don't know why that bothers me but it does) - i.e. lots of 'at the moments'. This I put down to 3 bottles of budweiser....hic

handlemecarefully · 17/09/2004 21:25

Blimey - its uncharacteristically quiet on here - no posts today and Thursday???, where are you all? Helloooooooo???

I am feeling exactly the same YorkieGirl. I also wrote my notice to return to work too last week, although I won't be actually going back until after Xmas. When are you going back?

I'm off on my holidays tomorrow. We're off to a cottage in France. I am hoping the weather will be fairly nice over there. Dd1's birthday is coming up soon too. Time really does fly - even she is growing up so fast. Help - i think I'm feeling broody already

Lowryn · 18/09/2004 11:26

Hiya, DS had his first taste of solids the other day, I caved in and bought some babyrice after the third consecutive day of feeding him every two hours.
Sooooo tired!
Now that he can roll over I feel I can't leave him to cry when he is in his cot. I have to go in and flip him over.
I am thinking of velcroing him on his back!

Glad you had a good holiday Yorkiegirl (hope you're having a good one handlemecarefully!). I gave notice last Thurs that I will be going back 1 Nov. Found a childminder last week - one recommended by a friend, so feeling relieved about that. Now we just have to try dd with a bottle or a cup...

Lowryn · 19/09/2004 15:32

DS is hilarious! He is trying to feed himself and getting very cross and vocal!
I was giving him some rusk in milk and he was grabbing the spoon. I said - well if you think you can do better do it yourself.
He has smeared the stuff all over his head in an attempt to stick it in his mouth but he is persevering!
I have taken loads of pictures!

Yorkiegirl - we've already got ds1's birthday (Dec 7th) and Christmas presents! Only way we can afford Christmas is to spread the spending out..! He's got lots of train stuff, but I think we're not really going to get ds2 anything much to be honest, as he's got all ds1's baby stuff and I kind of think that while he's young enough not to be bothered by presents, we should make the most of it! What ds2 really needs is clothes - he's racing through the sizes and we didn't keep all of ds1's stuff 'cos we didn't have storage space. So the grandparents (bless them) have asked for lists of clothes he needs.

Horribly busy at work now, but at least it keeps me occupied. Dp is coping OK but finding the days long and afternoons quite a struggle, as there's not really much going on for her then.

Ds2 can sit up!! He's been almost able to do it for a while, but on Saturday just started to do it - he wobbles after a while and did fall back on his head yesterday (oops - I was sat next to him but didn't catch him ). But it's lovely seeing him sitting up!

MrsDoolittle · 20/09/2004 11:47

Hi Ladies. We have been away this last weekend, my sister got married. It was a lovely day. Most of my family are Irish and hadn't seen dd. She also is the first of our generation, so as the only baby, and absolutely gorgeous at that, you can imagine the fuss we got. I could feel myself beaming with pride all day. She was sooo good, not a squeak out of her all day, just big, big smiles. She was a bit grumpy yesterday, but that was to be expected - she was absolutely shattered. I have kept her out of nursery today so we could get up late and let her recover in her own time
Glad you enjoyed your holiday Yorkiegirl! Sounds like you had a lovely time. I bet you are all looking relaxed and sunkissed!!
Have a lovely time in Rome HMC. Sure you don't want to swap?
HD - I'm sure you must be feeling alot better now that you have a childminder for dd, you beable to look forward properly now. You sound relieved.

It's great to hear how all your babies are doing . I'm taking dd swimming for the first time tomorrow - I've decided to do a few aquababies classes with her before I'm back at work and won't be able to...
MrsD, I'm very pleased to have sorted the childminder, especially as she comes recommended (my friend's daughter will be there with dd). Glad you had a good time at the wedding.

I got me the purple/lilac one from snugglytots - my tot is indeed snuggly

Fennel · 21/09/2004 09:22

hi HD, any luck on the expressing? I had a bad expressing day at work yesterday, couldn't get any out despite being so engorged that when I met a work colleague on the way to express, she commented I was looking very "bouncy"!

dd3 has also been swimming for the first time this week, she liked it too.

she's another baby who won't be getting anything much for christmas. we have a housefull of baby stuff already, I really can't think of anything much she needs that we don't have. will save the money for all those designer trainers I'll be pestered for in a few years
