if you r feelin bad did anyone c that poor lady in WOMAN mag she had surgary to get rid of the exess skin hang over after having 3 kids !

Lowryn · 14/09/2004 12:37

Wahey! Just wanted to say that my little man is now a back to front roller and can sit up all on his little lonesome!
He looks so grown up now (sob)he was sitting with his big sister playing with her toys, wearing some 6-9mnth dungies and he looked up and gave me a big toothy grin...Before chucking up!

Almost makes up for the fact that the little bugger has had me up every 2hrs for a feed for the last three days.
Doesn't make up for the continual whinging tho'

Lowryn · 14/09/2004 12:38

Only joking

Mrs D - if you can make do with a cheap (mothercare?!) high chair for a few months, we found the handisitt (not sure how it's spelt - something like that) is absolutely brilliant! Ds1 has been in it since he was 8 months old and still uses it now - it attaches to any chair so we take it with us to restaurants and when we go away. Definitely going to be buying another for ds2. At the moment he's eating in his car seat, and occasionally a mothercare high chair, but the handisitt really is fantastic.

dot1 · 14/09/2004 13:40

hmm - found a website for the chair - it's spelt handysitt. Will try and do a link...

here?!

apologies if this doesn't work...

dot1 · 14/09/2004 13:41

Hurrah!!!! It worked - first time I've done that by myself! Look under children and it's in there, although I think you can buy them from other baby/children stuff mail order sites!

Fennel · 14/09/2004 20:16

Dot - how is Dp coping with the two ds's all week?

Metrobaby, I see on the losers thread you are off on holiday - anywhere nice?

LucyJones · 14/09/2004 20:23

Hi everyone. I'm getting myself into a bit of a mess with all this weaning business. Can anyone give me a rough timetable of what they feed their ds/dd ie when milk is given and when food is given or cooled boiled water? Sorry to sound desperate
When dh came home he told me ds had done and eaten today and for lunch apparently the white board said shepherds pie. Should I query this as he shouldn't have meat until six months should he?

LucyJones · 14/09/2004 20:24

Sorry just read that back and it makes no sense
I of course mean when dh bought ds back from nursery!

Fennel · 14/09/2004 20:30

hi Lucyjones

you should query the shepherd's pie, if it's not meat then it's quorn or similar which they also shouldn't have so young. I'd leave written instructions about what they can have and say if in doubt don't give anything except fruit, veg, babyrice, milk. and keep asking them what they are feeding.

with my other dds at about 5-6 months, they fed something like: 7am milk, 8 am solids, 10am milk, 12 solids, 2pm milk, 5pm solids, 7pm milk. Maybe boiled water with the meals. Do you have a good weaning book? Annabel Karmel is quite good and gives timetables and loads of suggestions of what to feed at different times. I have a very nice veggie one too which does the same but all veggie recipes.

LucyJones · 14/09/2004 20:35

Thanks Fennel - I think I will have to get a book. That timetable sounds good. At the moment ds wakes btw 6-7 and has a bottle, then I give breakfast with next milk bottle at btw 9-10, lunch at next feed but replace milk with water and am then confused in the afternoon. I guess I could try milk for next feed and then add in supper at 5ish. It just goes round and round in my head about what and when to feed him and it's driving me nuts
I'm going with dh to pick ds up on Friday so will ask what they've given him then and query the shepherds pie. I really assumed they would what to give and what not to give at nursery for each age group - what do they teach in college?!

MrsDoolittle · 14/09/2004 21:00

LucyJones - Your thread has made me smile . I have been going through the same thing. The fact was before I went back to work dd would wake up for a feed around 6.30ish and I would bring her into bed with me for a bf, then we would both go back to sleep and she would feed again at around 10am. I am thinking back fondly now
Anyway, only this week have I started giving water with meals and bottles in between. Previously she was having a 5-7oz bottle during the day with every meal. Problem is though, dd has a cold and she has not been taking all her milk bottles, I don't know if this is because she has a cold or because we have messed up her routine. So I have been worrying this evening because she has missed a bottle, but she really wasn't interested. I guess this isn't helping Lucy, sorry!
Only there is someone else in the same boat.

Atleast she is sleeping again, thank goodness!!

LucyJones · 14/09/2004 21:03

MrsD - it's lovely to hear that someone else is in the same boat. I feel so silly for stressing out about it though - it's enough being obsessed with what I eat in my attempts to shed half a stone let alone obsessing what poor ds eats and when
But it is lovely now that they sleep through isn't it? When I look back on those first few sleep deprived months it doesn't half make me shudder

KristinaM · 14/09/2004 21:10

Lucy - Could it be that Dh has read the whiteboard for the older children ie 1-2 year olds? Are all the under 2s in the same room or set of rooms? Would be surprised if nursery gave your son shepherds pie (but you never know)......

OP posts:
LucyJones · 14/09/2004 21:15

That is a good point Kristina as you know what dh's are like However I think white board had ds' name on it and what he did and ate for whole day. It is only in the babies room so couldn't have got mixed up with 2 year olds etc. Will definitely be checking this out on Friday as am getting a bit scared! Not sure if I'm obsessing too much as ds is perfectly happy, he is fast asleep in his cot, and didn't our mums "in the olden days" give babies all kinds of stuff far too early? I was also a bit freaked out when i read that manufacturers sometimes fill up baby food jars with the stuff that is on envelopes and stamps just to bulk them out. God, I hope that's not true

MrsDoolittle · 14/09/2004 21:23

I read on here somewhere where one hv had come across a mother giving a dogy looking bottle to a 2 week old baby. The bottle was filled with bacn, egg and sausages with milk all liquidised for breakfast!!!! Eeeeeewww

LucyJones · 14/09/2004 21:25

Ewwwww! That sounds almost worse than a MacDonalds breakfast muffin

KristinaM · 14/09/2004 21:30

The nursery my daughter has just left ( to go to school) didn't give any meals with beef to any of the children ( because of BSE i assume). Though I guess it could have been made with minced lamb....who knows???

Oh I am SSSOOO glad now that DS is the youngest baby here - so I can watch you all worry about these things and learn from your pearls of wisdom

...though i do wish he would sleep more ....sigh...
I could do with a [yawn] emoticon

Am finding your highchair thread very informative Mrs D. Have you made a decision yet?

MrsDoolittle · 14/09/2004 21:36

I've upset Galaxy who was quite happy with her booster seat until reading my thread, but then she nearly made me buy it. Now I think I am trying to convince myself it is worth parting with the money for the Tripp Trapp. I think Back in Action are selling it cheaper than Born, which is the company suggested by MN on the home page. £95 with free delivery! But I would also have to buy the baby set .....[sigh] so No Kristina, not really.

Fennel · 14/09/2004 22:18

I think not many nurseries are great on knowing what under 6 monthers eat as most babies there are older. and the advice changes, and every parent has different food issues.
e.g. I am obsessive about mine not having meat but fine with peanut butter from 6 months. but most people I know will give meat but won't give peanut butter before a year at least.

Lowryn · 14/09/2004 22:30

Wow, I wish I could be braver about the peanut thing.

dolbear · 14/09/2004 22:56

ooo blimey , you guys are making me feel a right fly by night mom !
have not got the foggiest on fixing a routine or menu i shovel in wot he will eat
ds has bottle @ 7 8oz , f.frais , 1pm f.frais @ 3 bottle 5 more f.frais @ 6-7 then bottle 'till he sleeps with juice in between as it is the only thing that will stay in m all else gets thrown back out !
keep trying pumpkin+ s/pots etc but no luck
dm keeps giving him chips to suck on !
trying not to get ott with worry though is hard !
ds will not settle 2-night + off his food v unusual is 5 mts too early 4 teeth ?

KristinaM · 14/09/2004 23:27

Dolbear - Ds is 19 weeks and has been teething on and off for about 4 weeks. I go through 6-8 bibs a day with drool. Not counting the entire outfits he covers with puke. Unless its a projectile vomiting day, in which case he usually avoids himself completely and hits the floor/wall/sofa/other kids etc

But you are right - 5 months is WWWAAYYY too young to be teething
