Under the sea or clouds and rainbows???

Or baby boy is due on November 10th. We have a room for him but we don't want to buy and furniture or decor until we know what theme we are choosing. We are stuck between under the sea and clouds and rainbows. Both are equally cute.
We would paint the walls dark turquoise/aqua for under the sea and pale blue for clouds and rainbows. My mum has an art degree and will be painting the decor on top of the base colour (sea creatures and plants or clouds connected by rainbows).

If you had to choose, what would you go for?

Clouds and rainbows!

Lucky you having a mum gifted in these things. Bet it will look great. Hope you post some pictures when it's done!

Hairhorror1 · 02/07/2017 15:24

Under the sea just so that I could have a huge octopus 🐙

Totally depends what the room is like though. How big is it, is it a light room or tendency to be dark?

Under the sea! Loads of colourful fish and sea creatures.
Lovely theme!! I think it would last him longer than clouds and rainbows which he would grow of quicker.

Clouds and rainbows above a picture rail... hills and animals between picture rail and dado rail... under the sea below dado rail. Dark yellow carpet for bottom of the sea, starfish rug Grin

MrsLettuce · 02/07/2017 15:29

Under the sea. Much more interesting and more longevity too.

Im IN LOVE with the idea of a huge octopus. Hope it doesn't frighten him when he is a tot though Confused

Oh how lovely xx

imsorryiasked · 02/07/2017 15:41

Much more scope in the sea than clouds. Glow in the dark jellyfish would be awesome Grin

Under the sea is cold and wet, and sea blue is not at all a warm and cosy colour to paint a bedroom.

As the baby won't care what colour or theme the room is for quite some time yet, I'd pick a nice pale base colour and add to it as DS grows into an opinion.

MummyMiddleton · 02/07/2017 15:48

@imsorryiasked

@Heratnumber7

Cold and wet? Yes, can't argue with that. But beautiful, magical, enchanting, other-worldly, fairytalish? Can't say that under the sea isnt all of these things as well Smile

Personally, I think the ocean is one of the most divine and stunning natural beauties our world has to offer

You can get glow in the dark paint which would probably be better? Also if there's a nice big rock or something low down blackboard paint would be good.

Clown fish

I love the under the sea theme 😍

Clouds and rainbows sounds lovely. Much more peaceful for a bedroom.

If you want characters you can add some birds on a tree branch.

I think bright underwater theme would be a bit much for a whole room. A bit in your face.

Heirhelp · 02/07/2017 19:12

I remember panicking when pregnant because my dd room was not decorated. She is 14 months and we just use it to sort the laundry.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 02/07/2017 20:09

I like under the sea. We've got an under the sea nursery in Aqua blue which has been used at some time by all 4 children and currently used by DD2. We used stickers from Walls of the Wild which have lasted well ( about 10 years so far) but if you've got an artist in the family, go for it!

MummyMiddleton · 03/07/2017 08:37

We are planning on teaching him to self soothe. If he gets hungry or needs changing we will obviously tend to his needs. But then its a short 5 minute cuddle and back in his cot. This is scientifically proven to get babies sleeping through the night earlier. My friend did this and her baby, now 2, slept through the night from 6 months. So his room will definately be used

Clouds and rainbows sound so much more peaceful for a bedroom and a better nights sleep- we did a jungle theme and then found it far too busy and over stimulating. we went ott with bright colour and stuffed animals. it would have suited a playroom more.

Orangedaisy · 03/07/2017 12:56

I agree clouds and rainbows if you must decorate. Can be jazzed up with hot air balloons, birds, planes etc.

I know this isn't what you're asking, and this is meant kindly - your views on baby self settling may not work on your baby. If it was that easy there wouldn't be a multi million pound industry on baby sleep books. By all means think that and I hope for your sake it works on your baby, but I would advise keeping thoughts like that to yourself (at least in real life) until baby is here. Babies are all different and you may end up looking stupid. I recall a 5 month old staying with me when I was pregnant with DD1 and her mum sitting with the baby for 2 hours while she went to sleep. I thought she was crazy-surely by 5 months the baby should just go to sleep on its own?! I subsequently cuddled DD1 to sleep for well over 18 months!! DD2 is slightly better and we are working on self settling but your method would not work on her.

Also, relax and enjoy your pregnancy. You sound really prepared which is fab but November is still a while off!

Sorry if I seem overinvested, spend lots of time breastfeeding and noticed all your posts pop up.

Heirhelp · 03/07/2017 14:35

Each to their own preferences mummy. Nesting is an important part of preparing to be a parent. The biggest thing I have learnt about parenting is that is is a relationship between you and a your child and it your child might have other ideas.

I think the under the sea will be more interesting but the rainbows and clouds sound pretty.

Heratnumber7 · 03/07/2017 17:15

beautiful, magical, enchanting, other-worldly, fairytalish

Which sea is that then? 😀

To me the sea is cold and wet, not at all cosy. Full of sharks, squid, and ugly looking fish. It's not really like Finding Nemo at all you know!

Clouds and stuff are so much more peaceful and sleep inducing.

buckyou · 03/07/2017 21:54

I love it when people have all these ideas on how they are going to parent before they have the kid. I was the same, I can remember saying to my mum how I would never Co-sleep. Now I feel like a knob.
