ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

hi im an army wife, been with DH for nearly 10 years and married for just over 4. i have a DS 14 months. i am currently in osnabruck germany, dont really like it. have been to catterick (loved it) and cyprus(dhekelia, miss it now).

Dh has done a few tours and exercises including N.ireland, canada, america, iraq.

im not looking forward to this JPA thing. we have been warned about it and that it could cause problems like under or overpay but that these"cannot be helped". easy for them to say as their not the ones with no money to live on when it all goes wrong.

if with the JPA you get paid 4 weeks worth of wage but on the last day of the month, do you not lose money over the year, as some months are 5 weeks long?

everyone with partners away or due to go you have my sympathy. its pretty shit really but we all just muddle on and cope until they get back

Anybody interested in organising a petition to get rid of the DREADFUL MHS???? It is sooo stressful waiting in all day for contractors that could not care less and then they tell you they can't fix the problem and you have to wait for them to re-arrange!! oh they make me mad! Please tell me it will get better.

sorry to tell you but my experience has been awful and I have to say I have given up now. Rang in dec for someone to look at the mold in cupboards and in the bathroom, still no surveyor has returned my call despite their promises after three more requests. The call centre are very nice on the phone but in reality the customer care gets lost as soon as they pass the job on. If you ever get mad with a big call centre looking after something for you (like a bank) then this set up is similar. I suppose we should be grateful it is not in Bangledesh but they have no concept of what we are going through. Where are you moving to?

Sorry, didn't mean to upset you. I have to say we do have a nice quarter (surrey) with a big garden but the smell of damp does get me down a bit. If it is a nice area and a good patch you will enjoy it, whatever the MHS don't do!

My DH is the same Loopymumsy - they won't notice, or care! The funny thing is DHE hand the quarter over and MHS do the maintenance so there is no continuity. The previous occupants in our quarter did some interesting work themselves that clearly wasn't picked up on the handover.

god I leave this thread for 1 hour to wash up and bake a cake and look what happens!

fren - I plan on asking at the coffee morning on tues (our garrison and regt welfare officers both go and are v v good - also their PA is ther and she's fab as well so can't compalin on that front. I do like to keep a tight eye on the money side anyhow. love the wags idea - will email towers in a sec.

vmum - this is my arguement to DH, and he assures me that no it's deffo 4 weekly, this is apparently ment to help us out as you all know in feb we end up in effect 3 days short/2 days short on the money and march is a 5 week month iycwim so it's ment to help familys out more knowing every 28 days they'll be paid.

vick - ah get devany here I say we had them in wales, no word of a lie, if you had kids emergancies were within 20 mins, without it was 3 hours no job was left for longer than a week (well my hot water was left for 10 days cos I had a shower and it was only me (DH was in iraq) butt he lads were lovely always on time never late v poliet etc.

loopy - do you know anyone who's at that camp already? normally if your lucky you can find someone who's been or something (or might just be my experience) but i've found you can normally find out throught a 3rd party type thing what the accom's like, or ask in your hive centre - they should give you a rought idea what it's like.

shosha- next time they come send them to my hosue! lol. i've had my review donw and all we're ment to have a new system/fire put in (have nosyed in at no 7's as well (with the labs) and it's a lovely set they've got there now, but i'm still waiting - apparently we're phase 2 and they have to finish phase 1 first. no 7 was saying she's had 5/6 suverys on the hosue all saying the same hting since last oct and nothin's been done! i'll ask penny on tues and see if there's any progress as of yet - not that i'm holding much hope.

and as for grown men! well my DH thinks the laundry bin is where ever his clothes fall that it's ok to leave dirty minging ex kit in the bergan in the hall, and he doesn't have to come in and go straight in the shower when he comes hom - he's gotta sit down and have a brew first lol. not to mention the simpsons he watches/games consoles! lo. ah men!

munz · 02/02/2007 22:12

shosha that's why I didn't get my FIL to fix my boiler in wales when it went - I felt real bad for the bloke there was 4 adults in that hosue - FIL is a plumber/pipefitter and he refused on the basis he wasn't allowed by DHE etc - he said I can tell u waht needs to be done but I cna't do it. DHE bloke came back 3 times before it was sorted out (was the prob FIL said all along - the prob i'd been telling the DHE blokey as well)

I tell u the thing I find odd with this lot - and I mean this seriously, is that you only get one baby gate and they say we'll fit the cups but you have to get the gate yet DH can fit the bloody cups. last time we managed to get 3 and the cups were there when we moved in already for us - it's really odd. is MHS regional or nationwide?

exactly loopy - that's exactly it - and the bloke says to me where do u want it love we normally put it at the top now I see that point but J's only upstairs when we are and tbh he's only up there when he's in his cot or locked in the room with us so no chance to get down the stairs. it's the going up he's fond of.

saltire · 02/02/2007 22:48

I mentioned to Dh what some said on here about getting paid four weekly. He's RAF, They are getting paid still on last working day of the month, but he says that the salary is divided by 12, so that equal amounts are paid every month, including february. he says this definately the way the RAF do it, and he cannot see the army giving pay out four weekly, as, like he said, it would end up being paid in the middle of the month, and would surely mess up everyone's bill payments etc. However, as he also said, the Army do thing differently to everyone else
