ANY OTHER FORCES WIVES OUT THERE?

Just been chatting with 3andnomore on another thread and wondered if there are any more of us on mumsnet who would like a chat and a comforting moan? I am on my own atm - hubby away for 4 months, and would love to swap 'home alone with the kids' stories - good and bad, and also a good gossip about the other wives we are left with! A much safer outlet for frustration than the hive!

No, Dh was on the phone to PMA at various times throughout the week but never got any answer.

whatisthepoint · 02/02/2007 16:52

Hi everyone its so refreshing to have this thread isn't it - I didn't realise how many of us there are on MN!! I'm an army wife with a DD 3.10, a SAHM trading on ebay (to tight to pay child minding fees!!) until she goes to school in Sept !! Live in Tidworth in a MQ and hate it!! Not the quarter, thats really nice but the area.

munz · 02/02/2007 16:56

wtp - how do you find the ebay trading? i've been doing some of our old stufff and done quite well so am considering it properly. ooh I have a friend off to bulford and anotehr to tidwroth this side of may - what are the qtr's like there?

saltaire fingers crossed you don't get pompey! .

I've been selling on ebay for about a year, clothes mainly, some of ours but mostly get stuff from carboots/table top sales etc. My best profit to date was a coat I bought for a £1 and it sold for £57 !! This is not the norm I hasten to add!! But its not unusual to make between £5-£10 per item.
The quarters in Tidworth are mainly brand new houses, ours was built less than 2 years ago, we were the first ones in ours in July 2005, quite spacious, with great storage & large garages, very happy with the house. Tidworth however is another matter, there's absolutely nothing here, one street of about 5 shops, a Lidls, a garage, a pub and thats it !! The nearest Tesco's is about a 20 mile round trip away. I have to say I really have found it tough, haven't made too many friends but things will get better I'm sure when I get a job

McDreamy · 02/02/2007 17:23

There were similar problems here with JPA, they had to helicoptert housands of pounds onto camp as people didn't get paid!! DH has also had problems with staff just booking whatever leave they want off whereas before you needed signature from your boss.

tinytotmummy · 02/02/2007 18:19

Munz, didn't mean to offend you . Too busy for me, although I do miss the shopping! I have got far too used to being at Cornish pace. I would still move back if DH was working "normal" hours, ie, Mon-Fri, as I think it would be unfair for him to commute weekends.

I am looking forward to Raleigh though, as will be within stones throw of Plymouth - so all the big city advantages, without living in the middle of it!

tinytotmummy · 02/02/2007 18:21

I think we are on JPA, but not 4 weekly. Haven't heard about that. Will ask DH about it tonight.

munz · 02/02/2007 18:32

LMAO tiny - it would take more than that to offend me honestly! lol. the more you guys are saying about this system the less i'm liking it - surely the army wouldn't do something as huge as this without telling everyone in the system? as I say DH found out from a friend/clerk blokey in the office.

JillybeansNW · 02/02/2007 18:55

hmmmm jfa... off to alder hey in a bit but I will have LOADS more to say on that later

munz · 02/02/2007 18:58

oh god,

so the navy/raf are on it and army are hoping to go onto it?

PetitFilou1 · 02/02/2007 19:16

Sympathies to all with dh/dp away - I am married to an RAF Dr so slightly different to most of you probably as he doesn't become properly deployable until he's a consultant. He does aeromed on-call but that's it. I have two ds (3 in a week or so) and dd (17 months) so am quite happy with that situation though....... It would be a nightmare if he was away anymore than he already is. I feel a bit pathetic compared to the rest of you really!

munz · 02/02/2007 19:21

well the way I see it petit, is we're all forces wives so we're all in the same boat - all our DH can go away/do go away, we all ahve the same old stuff going on trying to get by etc

sounds fair - a woman after my on heart! lol - DH has only had his card back whilst I was away! lol - learnt that lesson a long time ago! - along with never letting him take the joint cheque book on tours!

kirstygem · 02/02/2007 20:05

Hiya can I join too. Army wife here, have DD 8 months old. DH not away too much yet but we are in our 3rd different posting within our first 18months of being married. This thread such good idea, especially for those with Dhs away on tour

wow! when I started this 2 days ago I had no idea how quickly it would gather pace! I have contacted MN towers to ask if we can be given our own subcategory, and I think that is why they have bumped us up to 'discussion of the day', but if anyone else would like to e-mail them and ask again if we could have our own section (I think Forces WAGs and Families is an excellent ideas for a title), it may help even more. Keep bumping guys!!!!

btw munz, JPA is defo happening, and there has been a lot about it around. It goes live in the spring, and the best thing I can recommend (as ex serving pay corps type myself)is to keep an incredibly tight eye on the bank statement and his pay statements in the next few months, and get straight to welfare and pay office if anything seems abnormal. I know it's not great, and thankfully now I no longer wear the uniform I don't have to defend it, but I think that's the best us wives can do apart from badgering DHs to get hold of the breifing leaflets and bring them home.

Another army wife here in charge of the purse strings - since we got married really, DH gets an allowance and is constantly amazed how we never have a £2000 overdraft (like the old days) and have some saved as well. Btw DH says he has heard nothing about this new pay system coming in either.
